So from what I saw, it looks like the targets are specifically the people with the white diamonds on them, two in the first three rounds, one in the last, and you ONLY need to take down the targets, the people without diamonds are inconsequential, so you can mostly ignore them other than to dodge or grab thier weapon.

It seems each death adds 1 to counter and killing lowers it so if you die 5 times it gets higher numbers added but killing one person lowers the number added and heals you little?
