I love to see the horses in forestries. My father was an experienced user of horses for forestry in the 50 and 60 ties when many thought that horses would become useless in relation to large and heavy machines even on smaller forestries, and among others he was asked to be part in a series on the radio that promoted the advantages with use of horses for different types of forestries. I remember in particular the summer when I turned 5 in 1959 where I was often in the woods with my dad and the horses all day and sat on the horseback to control one of the two kind horses he used to take out 12,5 m long poles to be used for reinforce dams towards the sea in the Netherlands, and this was a great experience that I will remember for all my days. I have a lot of good memories with my dad, the horses, some kind loggers and the forest both in summer and wintertimes. Thanks for your video😊

I loved at the end when the horse were walking/pulling in perfect unison as one combined creature. The true meaning of "teamwork". Today's society has lost touch with God's Earth. Hard outdoor work is wholesome and brings joy and satifaction in the doing. A horse isn't a pet, it's a work relationship. It takes time every day to have a relationship with a horse. That made our lives slower, more peaceful and closer to God.

The BEST winter logging in the woods video! New snow on the trees and the ground - horses walking in the woods with no other sounds - Jim cutting down and cutting up trees so masterfully - horses pulling logs in the deep snow. We had a shire named Babe and used her in the UP of Michigan to skid pulp. We pealed the logs with short old car leaf springs that were sharpened on one end. I used to take Babe for a ride after work. I had to climb up on the coral fence and jump over onto her. I was 5 years old then I am 66 now and retired in Florida. Babe left a permanant influence on me. I have loved draft horses all my life. I love visiting Machinaw island just to see the horses. God Bless the Amish !

True but the channel would not be called "Working Horses With Jim" and do a little more damage to the forest . Other viewer's tell him to get a farm tractor ( he has 2) . That kind of comment is nice , but it misses the whole point of his channel .Jim loves his horses and wow he gets a lot done .Example 6000 bales of hay to sell. Thousands of bf lumber skidded out . Paid by Paul Smith College to him. I believe Jim is making a good living with his horses. Let's not forget beef cows ,lumber ,sleigh rides and stud fees for Baron. As we say in my area "Jim's not a hurting ". Yes a lot less bother but would it be as much fun with a littleTreeFarmer Skidder versus his well trained horses . Just my thoughts .Cheers

It is hard for me to gauge the size of the logs until Jim gets them on the scoot. The two logs he loads in this video are quite large. Jim must enjoy having the logs be so big. It takes a special person to do all it takes to do his job, wading in the deep snow, braving the cold. 👏👏 Sure is beautiful in the woods.

This video shows how industrious a logger must be when using horses. Mucking out the trailer to keep the dung from freezing is so much easier than dealing with it frozen. There doesn't appear to be a lazy bone in any of the family right down to the children. Good examples and experience are the teachers of people who work well anywhere. God is truly blessed by your work and worship qualities, as are the viewers who enjoy your lifestyle videos. Thank you.

I had watched the snowy video before I got to read the newsletter, I had enjoyed the video so much I hadn’t even noticed it was a no talking video! I had to go back and watch it again. It was one of the best I’ve seen. Jim works with the rest of the team so well that they just don’t always have to be explained. Even though the horses have been a team such a short time, I think they work so well together because they were both trained by Jim, and each of them knows what is expected of them.

Beautiful video!. Brought back some memories for me. Jim is one hard working guy and the horses are very well trained. A little tip, when I was doing a bunch of logging I took some steel rod and put a hook on one end so that I could push or pull the chain under the logs so that I didn't have to try to hand dig and to get the chain through.
