People always ask me how to use a compass, instead of explaining I'm going to start sending them your way because you explain it way better than I could. Nice one Alvin!

I am looking online for an explication on why you would use the hinges on a hinged leg compass. I know it’s probably a dumb question but I can’t find it anywhere and it’s eating at me. Thanks for your time.

Is there a compass that can hold a mechanical compass? The Alvin compass pencil holder is made of plastic and the threading strips. Do you guys make a compass for extremely fine lines or a sturdy pencil holder? 2mm is too thick for me, I need .2mm lines.

I really hate this style of compass. It doesn't allow you to lock in the size in place. So it always turns out distorted.
@mangledfoxy20527 ай бұрын
I have this issue with mine. I can’t lock it so my paper always has a little dent in the center of the circle from pressing on the center so hard to keep it from moving around and distorting

I have a compass set with certain compasses that have a "pronged" end, i.e., two pointed edges parallel to each other - almost like tweezers. Does anyone know what the uses are for these types of ends?

From your description I guess they are linear drafting pens; you put a drop of chinese (black) ink in the void between the metal "tweezer" and can then draw in ink. This kind of pen can only travel in one direction, so they are not suitable for writing, only for drawing lines.
@navygirl547 жыл бұрын
Where do you get your led??? I found my grandfathers old drafting kit and it has very little led. I also don't know what one of the tools is as it has 2 points on it and you can't change them. I can guess you put some ink down then use it to make a circle?
@Alvindrafting7 жыл бұрын
Hey vlogging peacock, you can get compass leads from anyone who sells drafting equipment. The tool with the two points on it is probably a divider or proportional divider. This tool is used to measure space on a map, blueprint or technical drawing. It also is a tool for dividing lines or circumferences of circles into equal parts. Proportional divider will also allow to make something bigger or smaller and keep it in the correct proportion. This tool is not used for inking. They make a compass attachment that will hold a tech pen or marker.

Any store for writing equipment, like school, has lead for mechanical pencils/lead holders/clutch pencils. My compass doesn't use lead but you attach a wooden pencil to it

What is the purpose of break legs?
@Alvindrafting8 жыл бұрын
The break legs allow you to create larger circles and it keeps the lead touching your surface at the point for precision. If you let the lead begin to mark on an angle it will shave down the graphite and your line will become inconsistent.

Alvin Drafting So it's a bit like adjusting the height of a pencil in the compass for those compasses that have pencil attachments?
@Alvindrafting8 жыл бұрын
Yes. You always want the point to be the spot making the mark. It gives you the most control over the line.

Maybe my compass is a piece of @#$^??? No matter what the pencil arm moves. I only hold the top handle but the slightest amount of pressure from the pencil on the paper makes the arm move. Is there something I’m missing? I even tried turning just the paper in a circle holding the compass still.
