This news makes me so happy. I had 351 Cleveland in a 1964 for Fairlane that I built with my Dad and best friend. Now I am building a 351c with a top loader in my son's 1970 Mustang. Long live the 351 Cleveland

@@DragBoss351Cleveland I would love to build a 427 Cleveland but I wish it was an FE crossover Y block with cross bolted mains and a side oiler with the original main size like the FE and Cleveland shared, a 4.125 bore and 4 in stroke. Put it in a 66 Comet 202 2 dr sedan. That would make a life time of trying to bring aftermarket parts to market worthwhile. have been black balled for wanting South Korean parts, or Indonesian castings for old stuff. I m blind now and just worn out. Tim you are the man!!! Absolutely beautiful casting! 4.63? 2.749? Great weight!
@Bbbbad724
@Bbbbad724 11 күн бұрын
Jay is your man for FEs! He can build Cammers too and Jay Brown is in them too. I will always love the FE. 4.63 space, 4..232-4.29. 2.749 mains. I really wish they had kept the FE block with Cleveland heads. But a Jay Brown FE would not be what it is .

I'm baffled by so many aftermarket blocks for the 351C, and so few if any made it into cars, let alone racing. It's also wild how much of it you were involved with, I had ZERO idea.
@DragBoss351Cleveland

Yep I started this deal with Tod. In states so few cause they can’t make them. They blame it on foundy bs and that may have a degree of lack of availability. But the truth is that can’t pour iron successfully. Don’t let them tell you they have them In stock or should be getting more soon… waiting on foundry. Bunch of BS. They can’t pour iron without holes or core shift. Whatever I am doing what I can to make them readily available. Not cheap either, fair market value 😉

@DragBoss351Cleveland hey Tim here's a story for you, about the stock Cleveland blocks I used back in the day, in 11 years of racing the Cleveland on the dirt track, never had a cracked block from excessive heat or high RPM. The only blocks that got broken were because of an internal part breaking, like a rod failure or dropping a valve head into a cylinder and exploding a piston. The red line on my Cleveland's were 8000 rpm, but often pushed them to 8500 rpm. Engine temps were in the 220° to 230°range, I still have one of my racing Cleveland blocks, I built it in 1987 and raced it until 1992. Those old blocks were pretty good, Your new block looks like the ultimate Cleveland block.

Thanks Ed, cause I will tell you this dam thing is heavy. No cylinder wall flex. Johnson will test hardness. Which determines final hone finish, which leads you to rings. Build the engine around the rings, that’s where the power gain or loss. Especially with the walls the stock blocks have. You are right game changer…. DBG always seeing and learning something new. Have an awesome holiday season my friend.

Tim, congrats! If you can get one analyzed and machined up with some run time, I bet you can sell a TON of these. I think your forthright honesty about what they will need and any deficiencies you see will be a huge plus. People are willing to tackle a project and do they work if they know what they are getting in to. Finding a really good machinist for to build these things would be the hardest thing I think. I bought an iron eagle dart block to build a Clevor. This is an awesome development that would have potentially changed my mind.

Thanks Michael, I appreciate the support from and other guys. This is a block for professional to machine /assemble, is how I look at it. The key is the machine shop and machinist. Some issues, but overbore capability and priority oiling overrides that to me.

@@DragBoss351Cleveland yeah I get that but they kept the 351/400M. Ford could have used both 302/351 335' series they sent to Australia here. I'm just saying they were proving their worth when it got the boot. Sux
@jamessharp9790
@jamessharp9790 11 күн бұрын
@@MrADVANCEDTEKwell , think about it Ford’s V8 development in the 1960s . A lot was going on and Cleveland was at the end of the decade. Other engine families were suited for most of their applications. Insurance and emissions took it out. Shame too, because a larger displacement one would’ve been crazy good.
@MrADVANCEDTEK
@MrADVANCEDTEK 11 күн бұрын
@@jamessharp9790 True and I understand the issues. Ford spent the money for R&D had more power and had little brother 302 just like the windsor. I do understand it's a cost thing and maybe a lack of what will bolt up to it plus it's size. It stayed relevant in the Nascar and NHRA arena. Both Nascar and NHRA has the proof it was better then most engines by so much it was given the most penalties even over bigger enginees. Ford will never convince me that it was the wrong engine for them with it's insurance scare and ignore it's accomplishments. I don't know of an engine that changed the field that much since the Hemi. Oh well. It's out there holding it's own and finally getting respect.
@Bbbbad724
@Bbbbad724 11 күн бұрын
They killed the FE the same way. Why take a big dump on the engine that brought them to the dance? The engineering dollars that were spent to make it happen were lost, the Cleveland was the next link in the chain. Why? Now we have lame O 7 liter Windsors powered Cobra replicas. The beast still has the same power it had against the street Hemis. The Cleveland is the other casualty of cramming generic engines down our throats. Why? We know what we want.

@ absolutely agree, final machining is always needed, what your looking for from the core casting is quality of the material and thickness of the material, once they pass that then it’s final machining. People don’t seem to realise that even if you got a block from Dart that final machining and sizing is always required if building an engine to high standard.

No worries mate, that’s why these are semi finished and for professional assembly. Any block you buy needs at least 2k worth of machine work. That’s why having it evaluated. I have waited too long 18 years Adam. Tired of waiting and making it happen. Any race engine should have lifter bushings. 😉

I always wondered about the factory blocks-everyone said the Cylinder walls were too thin and would grenade. The only options were Aussie or SVO which was unobtainium without being rich. After awhile, realized that everywhere I went was the Bow tie groups, plus if you didn't hold the 351C at sustained 7000+ rpms-aka Nascar style racing, they are pretty much Fine! Long story short, I have been lugging around a stock D2 block, 2bolt, from a demoliton car that had a rusted broken frame and smashed the starter right away. Checked it out in college, ended up boring it .020" And I found that block in 1984.

The most important thing to check is hardness with a Leeb hardness test and sonic test all bores to see how thick and if any core shift. Here in Australia it would be a very popular block if it passes these tests😍

What's the advantage of a Cleveland block over a Clevor style Windsor? The Windsor doesn't have that crazy front timing cover cast in and still takes Cleveland heads.

Great question. Clevor ain’t a Cleveland. Not much more to say, other than this is what the Cleveland should have been, guys like me and many other want to see what it is like to not have to be concerned with the plagues of a 54+ old blocks. Now a guy can make 600 hp with 427 ci Cleveland, easy. Also the Cleveland is one of the best engines or the best at making hp/per cube.

DB, you know that iron has never been easy to cast, IMO what makes the offshore iron 351 W/C block offerings good is that they are cast by foundries that ALSO cast PRODUCTION BLOCKs & HEADs for other manufacturers, the iron is OE grade, same as what the dart SHP blocks are which have turned out to have less cracking issues than there higher end blocks and this is a fact. Wish you best of luck in your new endeavor.
