Yeah, so many people think of Dragon Ball as a prequel series, but it's one long continuous series that got broken in half due to a marketing ploy by the anime studio. Skipping it is missing a huge part of the story. And it's great, too.

This work was made 37 years ago, and it's a miracle that Goku's voice actor, Masako Nozawa, is currently 87 years old and still active 👏✨ Masako Nozawa will also be voicing the new Dragon Ball that will be aired this fall. This is why I love Animaechan ♥️, I don't hate English Dub watchers for the record , but there's just something with Japanese Dub that makes it like have a "Original Feeling" and because its in its original language , 90% of the time , I will understand more of the Anime's "Important Details" about the Story or the Plot (90% because sometimes there's translation problems), and the voice acting seems natural not like in the English Dub where the tone of their voice just goes "Upward" every time they end their sentence , and it makes my face cringe when I hear it😂 .

I was honestly so shocked when I heard the news because I've had this on my schedule for around 3 weeks. I was supposed to start reacting to it last Friday, but due to internet issues I postponed it to Sunday. I heard the news about his passing on Friday, so I would've been right in the middle of watching when I found out the news if it wasn't for the internet issues :(( life can be funny sometimes... I debated whether or not I should still start it so soon, but all the fans of the show seemed to think I should go ahead with my plans as they were. I am excited to keep watching this legendary show by the amazing Akira Toriyama 🙏

Here in Latam dragon ball is a classic, Goku has two voice actor in latam, one is Laura Torres for his child version ( and the child version of other two characters) and the second is Mario Castañeda for his adult version ( these is the one that people from latam associates Goku more).

I've never been huge into the Dragon Ball series, but I do have a ton of nostalgia from it. Just seeing the art style reminds me of my childhood. My brother and I actually had this show on DVD back in the day. It was the first anime we'd ever owned other than Spirited Away.

Me too. I grew up with the dub, since it is much more popular in the west, but i'm currently on my second watchthrough in jaapanese, and it's so much better. Especially the script. The voice acting in the english version is pretty good but the script has almost always been subpar.

THANK GOD you’re watching this in Japanese because Dragon Ball is notorious for having such an incorrect dub and most westsern fans seem to always recommend people to watch the dubs even though they were never accurate to the manga or Japanese (which the dub actors have also gone on record stating they agree with) So thank god you picked the Japanese version. You’ll be able to get the true Dragon Ball experience. Hopefully you have a blast with it

I'm mainly watching on my phone and the subs are nearly unreadable. Extremely small and faint, making it a bit tougher to follow along. If you could blow them up a bit that'd be great. 🙏

Dragon ball is such a phenomenal series and even tho more anime has come out through the years, this series has just something that many others just don't and i just can't pinpoint what it is. Sometimes i think It might be just nostalgia but then i see newcomers to this series like you that still can enjoy it even tho it's an old show and it is just so nice. Falconer dub is iconic I don't know why'd you would think sub is better. In DBZ sub his voice doesn't match his body. Subbed Goku is a muscular man with the voice of a child it sounds weird.

God it is so nice to find someone that's actually watching the Japanese version. That English version always grates on my nerves with its constant talking during parts that are silent in the Japanese version and script changes and all that. And if this is your first time seeing the franchise, it is great that you're actually starting from the beginning instead of a third of the way through (which is where Z starts (which is what they rename it at the seventh saga in the anime. In the original comic it's just called Dragon Ball all the way through what the anime calls Dragon Ball and what the anime calls Z)). And just so you know, Toriyama has practically nothing planned out for the story. He's always making up new stuff as it goes along.

This work is from about 40 years ago, so there may be expressions that seem impossible today, and the pacing is entirely different from the present. However, back then, society was more tolerant in almost all aspects. In Japan at that time, VCRs were not yet widely spread, and watching television broadcasts was the only option. However, most students adjusted their lives to match the broadcast times, and every Wednesday at 7 PM, they would sit in front of their TVs, captivated by the shows. One thing that can be said without a doubt is that Dragon Ball changed the world of manga and anime. Without Dragon Ball, many of today's anime would be quite different.

Please, Animaechan, read the manga too. By reading the manga, you will understand why Toriyama is a genius. His paneling, fight choreography, and expression are in another league compared to the other shounen. I was blown away and never had so much fun reading a manga before; it flows so naturally and is so clear. His unique art style, worldview, and expression are all there.

I'm glad you're watching this in Japanese. Dragon Ball has way too many die-hard dub fans for some reason who think you can't enjoy the show if it's not in English. Granted the OG Dragon Ball dub is much better than its sloppy DBZ counterpart when it comes to keeping the script intact. I honestly love the DB dub, but I'd never recommend it OVER the original. Too many little changes here and there that take away from the intended experience.

The english dub Funimation did is nearly word for word when compared to the old Ocean dub from 1995, for the first 13 episodes (they only did the first 13). Ocean had a lot of the cast from Ranma 1/2 Viz studio dub. The Ocean dub was superior to the Funimation dub, but suffered from the extreme anime censorship we, sadly, had in the states, but the voice acting was really good.
