DISCALIMER: I do not hate Teamfourstar nor do I think Goku is father of the of year, I just don't like how their fanbase takes a flanderized version of the story and uses it as canon evidence.

That gets me mad because I watched Abridged, but this isn't canon! The episodes even say how it's a FAN PARODY! Which means that Abridged is basically dbz but a bit drunk/funny. It's not the actual dragon ball and goku is not a bad dad

yeah people see tfs, laugh at it, call it BETTER DBZ, and then use it to justify why Goku is a bad father (he isn't). Goku is actually one of the best fathers given his environment and how he was raised.

I love DBZA, but I do think it had a negative effect on the fandom. Which by no means was TeamFourStar's intent. They just wanted to make a funny show about something they love.

I wouldn't say that. You'd think people would just go back and watch the original anime. Or at least remember that Goku raised and was with Gohan any chance he had...Save for when he was on Yardrat, but he came back.

Goku is 23-24 at the start of Z, he was a teen when he and Chi-Chi had Gohan. Then fucking dies at 24 at the latest fighting his alien brother while also finding out he is a alien. The reincarnation of Demon King kidnapped his son, nearly kills the kid if it wasn't for him being half alien. Then goes through LITERAL HELL and back, comes back to life to fight two more aliens. Nearly all of his friends and allies fucking die fighting them. He nearly dies and ends in a coma. While two of his surviving friends take his 6 year old at the latest son to another planet to bring their friends back. Of course he then come back to fight even stronger aliens and a planet destroying dictator TWICE. Then finally gets to chill but at this point Gohan was already fucked, this kid has seen so many people die and beat nearly to death a handful a times, all because of Raditz coming to Earth and Krillin and Bulma take him to space. BUT STILL SOMEHOW IT'S GOKU'S FAULT EVEN THOUGH HE WAS EITHER DEAD OR IN A COMA.

Don't forget purposefully putting Pan in Danger so he could force Gohan to keep training in DBS SH. The same Piccolo who was on Goku's ass for making Gohan fight Cell when Gohan was the only one capable of killing Cell. Atleast Goku's plan made sense, because Piccolo did not know Gohan had his Beast form at all and just winged it the whole time lol. I love Piccolo but man's is a big hypocrite and ain't nowhere near a better "father" than Goku.

A lot of people saw the intentionally flanderized version of Goku, and perhaps because of the memorability of the abridged series, replaced that version of Goku with the real one. Also we know that Dragon Ball fans aren't exactly known to be smart.

Some people in this fandom forget the fact that DBZA is a PARODY. Meaning every character's main trait is dialed up to 11 for comedic effect. Goku's idiocy, Gohan being a bookworm, Vegeta wearing his insecurities on his sleaves, etc. They have a disclaimer at the beginning of every episode. Oh wait, I forgot. Dragon Ball fans can't read.

Some people don’t understand that the whole “Goku is a terrible father” is just a joke/meme. Goku is actually a good dad, like not a lot of dads can say that they died twice for their son.

One of the thing I severely hate about Dragon Ball "fans" By all means, enjoy DBZA, it's a fun and funny parody of dragon ball Z, but some people legit take it as canon because "hur durr funni" and while it does improve upon things, there are impressions like "goku is a bad father" that will forever leave a bad taste in my mouth.

i used to think goku was a bad father but now i just realize that the show just doesnt show it. the 3 year training arc for the androids was basically time skipped. thats why i appreciate that they finally realized how that warps the perception of goku for the audience and showed not just the training parts in the time chamber but also the father son moments. the filler arc that showed the 10 days before the cell games also helped for the anime watchers. but thats sooooo many episodes in, that people started to notice how little time they spend together. gokus not a bad father but you could get the impression he is

Goku’s only real bad moments was refusing the wish to earth and giving Cell a senzu bean. Most of his absences was because he was dead, injured or busy.

Goku refusing the wish to send him back to Earth was entirely beneficial. He wouldn't have learned Instant Transmission then. Goku knows Gohan's strength more than anyone, he saw him become Super Saiyan 2 for a brief moment and had nothing to worry about. Goku did become overconfident, though.

@@inkchariot6147 true, but he also left Vegeta completely unaccounted for. Besides Goku and Frieza, Vegeta was the most powerful person on Earth, which now had Dragon Balls. It’s a miracle Vegeta didn’t try to recreate the Saiyan Saga. While Trunks wasn’t needed for Mecha Frieza as he apparently wasn’t much of a problem in the future timeline if Goku was able to return in time, it’s another miracle it wasn’t another final form Frieza situation. As for Gohan, his plan was calculated, but it wasn’t a plan Gohan knew, and at least should have made him aware that he may have been needed. However, like Piccolo training Gohan, relying on him was a necessary evil, but the senzu bean wasn’t necessary and just made things worse. Though granted, Goku at least realised this and tried to fight Cell again.

I'm not the biggest DBZ fan. And Goku wasn't the best father (hell, half the time he was dead during Gohan's life), but it's not like he does it intentionally. He seriously thought about others and how to keep them safe if they can't fight back. Which just makes his characterization in Super all the more baffling. Yeah, he was stupid in OG Dragonball. But that was a result of him spending his life completely in isolation with Grandpa Gohan until Bulma showed up. Super was supposed to take place after Z, yet he sank to levels even kid Goku didn't go to. Sorry for the rant. But god Super sucked and sure as hell didn't straighten the perception DBZA fans had that Goku was a bad father.

Imma say this: While TFS didn’t really start the whole “b-B-bUt gOkU’s a bAd fAtHeR” Slander (In which don’t even get me started on some Fans even saying that “Vegeta’s a Better Father” - I dare to anyone who thinks that way and is also reading this, give me a Full-Detailed Explanation on exactly How Can Someone Verbally-Abuse their Kid Be Considered a Good Father), they definitely made it worse. - Unintentionally, in that matter.

@@ataladin87 teamfourstar only wanted one thing to come out of abridged. People to have a good laugh. That's all they wanted, they've explicitly stated at the beginning of every episode that it is a parody but they can't control anyone and some people just took the jokes and ran with them as canonical fact. That's not their fault. They may have given unintentional ammunition to the ones who've already believed Goku is a horrendous father, they just thought the idea of joking around about it was a good idea and didn't think anything past that. But it isn't their fault for the ones who haven't watched Dragon ball and took the jokes as canonical fact. I think anyone with two brain cells can see "Goku is a bad dad" wasn't an agenda they were trying to push and it was just a joke. But this is the dragon ball fandom, either they are illiterate or they are the most knowledgeable people on this franchise, no in between.
