Here's why Goku actually doesn't go Super Saiyan till the end, and please don't buy into those "spirit bomb killed Frieza fan headcanons" that's never once stated by anyone, it's just to build suspense for movie conclusion and maybe you could include the fact Goku never goes full power immediately even against opponents that want to destroy the world; Cell at any instance, Majin Vegeta, the Ginyus, Nappa and Vegeta, Black, Jiren, Zamasu, Frieza the 2nd time. So people saying he just couldn't use super saiyan the whole time is just stupid, and makes no sense based on context, and it'd make a lot more sense he just didn't want to go all out at the start and maybe he got his shit kicked so hard he couldn't blast into Super Saiyan just like that. Because also remember, despite what we saw with him and Trunks, we hadn't seen him after that flick Super Saiyan on mid combat.

The original movies were never canonical to the manga or anime; they were what if adventures taking place where the series as a whole was storywise, which is why their power levels were on par with where they were in the story. Movies could reference events from the series, but not the other way around--think Dragon Ball Heroes. GT is not canon, so whatever you saw in GT, you can just scratch that off. Fear not, however, as Dragon Ball Heroes current approach to the story as a multiverse combining the current story and GT, so those who were fond of GT get to enjoy that story in this new what if amalgamation. Broly was made a canonical character because Akira Toriyama hadn't set a hero in the next arc and it was brought to his attention how fans abroad loved the character quite a bit. Since Broly fit the narrative he was taking the story, he made it work, rewriting the original movie to work within the story he wanted to tell. The only movies that are canonical are the ones written by Akira Toriyama which are Battle of the Gods and Broly--the 2008 short movie doesn't seem to be canon, though adding doesn't mess anything up... Currently, Akira Toriyama has been using the movies to set up future arcs the manga/anime build on. For those wondering why I keep separating the anime from the manga, it's because Dragon Ball has to independent mediums telling the same story in their own unique ways. THIS is why the two don't always match up, moreso now than in years past when Akira Toriyama did all the writing and artwork himself. There are a couple of reasons for this though the main reason is Toei needs wiggle room for syndication. Akira Toriyama's stories get to the heart of the story, and while they may feel like they're dragging on at times, it's often much worse in the anime, as they have stories that never see the light of day in the manga--I don't know how many episodes are needed for a year of television, but not every arc has enough story there to fill those needs, so Toei needs to work its magic to make that happen!

You know my biggest issue with this movie was, gohan had already gone to namek, had his potential unlocked, went toe to toe with second form frieza, so A. Yes he alone could have blasted his way out of the rock, and B. .....why on fucking earth would he ride icarus to get senzu beans? Abridged after the frieza saga is way better than the original Anime. And just about any Abridged movie is better than the originals. There actually isn't that much emotion in the voice actors. Yes I am a filthy dub watcher, because I don't speak Japanese, because we won the war, because we know how to abridge a cartoon. The pacing in DBZA is much better. I remember the original Ocean Air Episodes in North America being something like 60 episodes to get to the right between Goku and Recoome? Talk about slow. It's actually faster to read the manga than to watch the anime when it comes the DBZ.
