@@Lilsaiyaman I feel like the whole Red Ribbon Army arc is a bit of a slog. But once the 22nd Tournament starts, it really picks up. There's some good character development for Goku in the Red Ribbon arc but man does it drag sometimes.

I think the things leading up to this were his beat down from Frieza and his emotional breakdown, when he decided to stay on Earth after Namek, when he charged at Super Perfect Cell, when he stayed on Earth to train after the Cell Arc, and when he did his Final Atonement

I think in a perfect world, there would have been a thematic focus on each arch, and to be fair its almost there as is. The Saiyan arch could be about breaking limits, and getting serious. The Namek arch could be about the absolute upper limits of power (my head cannon is power levels were actually at maximum at this point, but it's completely out of brute force with zero technique.) The Cell saga could be about perfecting mastery of that power (achieving complete understanding of SSJ to reach its new "perfect" version in SSJ2. Integrating your shadow to make weaknesses strengths.). And finally, the buu saga could be about getting back to your roots to reinvent yourself to solve even the most impossible newgame+ situation (and an ACTUAL handing off of the torch to the next generation). But what we got is still exceptionally impressive in context when we remember Arkia was flying by the seat of his pants. I think Dragonball Z is truly seen for its glory when we keep this in mind. Arkia basically had us all in a multi year adlibbed game roll to doge. Maybe he wasn't a meditative writer, but he's one legendary dungeon master.

I've always thought about Krillin breaking the remote. Let's say he used it. All it does is shut them down. Now Krillin still has to power up enough to blow the android up. A dead weight android is still absorbable components. Easy taking for Cell. The power up is a beacon for where the android is. Krillian needs to utterly destroy 18 to prevent the absorbing. This means big blast not disk. This takes real time. 16 is still there. He might even still be active as he is not the same as the 18 and 17 models. This means he might still protect 18 and Krillin can't power up or won't be able to get a clear shot off. I don't think this was a win for Krillin any way you look at it but I feel Krillin actually bought time and gave them the best chance by not shutting her down and giving her the chance to run. The fact that 18 never moved is more her own fault that lead to perfect Cell rather than his. Just a thought though.

Small note there was a 5 years time skip between DB to DBZ. I know it's the same story but I mean by marketing they split it. In the godly Japanese version Gohan calls Piccoro "uncle" never father. This is what Piccoro Jr. is to Gohan besides his mentor uncle figure. "And speaking of Vegeta, his loss to Freeza was heartbreaking." Say to you please, there are some people who were very happy about it like me. In the Androids arc? No the MF Saiyan prince wasn't a Z fighter yet. He was still a cold blooded killer here. I believe he joined in the 7 years time skip until Majin Boo.
