Dragon Ball Z Kai Sucks

Its funny DragonBall Z Kai was something that came out when I was 20 & I watched it and while I loved hearing the English Dub cast improve in many areas & a lot of Kai’s score. It never became my go to when I want to revisit the series. I enjoy Kai but like you said my fav way to go back is still the manga to this day cause I can read way faster than I can rewatch & Toriyama’s artstyle is absolutely immaculate, gives a clear flow of action & is just very easy & fun to read. Since my fav way to revisit the series is it in its most organic form, if I’m feeling Nostalgic I’ll rewatch either the OG Cheesy Toonami Dub, Ocean for Saiyan and Namek & Funimation for the Rest we grew up with, I never took the Dub for Z that seriously the same way I never took Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Digimon, or Yugioh’s dub that seriously, Just cheesy nostalgic fun. But I Also Really love the Original Japanese just cause I love the voices & Kikuchi’s score. Each gave a different vibe, The OG Japanese gives DragonBall this mystical martial arts series vibe and the OG gave it this ACTION SUPERHERO Save the Day Vibe and the music I still use in my Gym workouts when I’m aiming to hit a PR, I remember blasting the SSj3 Theme in High school the first time I benched 200+ haha & still use it to this day. I still really enjoy Kai (cept for the Buu Saga for it for a myriad of reasons) but I just never find myself rewatching it like I do the OG Japanese and OG DUB and if I really want Organic the manga is legit my fav & never fails me.

Aye it makes me so happy to see someone with influence and a platform show love to Kai. Kai rekindled the love for dragon ball for multiple generations. I’m only 24. People in my age range had Kai on nicktoons and it’s still one of the best anime of all time. Kai is that good especially with the original soundtrack it had.

For those of us not pushing 30 or 35, kai is the rerun that got our generation to love dragon ball. However I’m sure kai has a special spot for a lot of fathers like my own dad because it’s how he got me into dragon ball.

Speak for yourself, I'm 24 and I watched OG DBZ. I'm fine with Kai because sometimes I don't wanna sit through filler, but I tolerate it at best. The soft spot will forever be for the original run that has you waiting 4 episodes for a 30 second fight, and an episode where Piccolo and Goku learn to drive.

I'm 35 and I love Kai. The pacing isn't 100% in tune with the manga (since its an edited version of the OG anime) but it does a fantastic job at removing a lot of filler from the Saiyan to Freeza arc.

As an OG fan I must respectfully disagree. I like Kai because it ment we actually got a professionally made dub with most of the same actors from the original. If I'm feeling nostalgic I'll gladly pop in the original version but otherwise I'll stick with Kai for it's better voice acting, more accurate script, and much faster pace.

Yeah for me if I wanna watch Dragon Ball Z I watch the original with English subtitles but I wanna watch It dubbed I throw on Dragon Ball Z Kai. Also sorry but the original English dub has aged like 8 month old milk and I can't stand it, I have issues with the Faulconer Score like it doesn't stop like as much as I think Is cool but like let the music pause for like a minute to build fucking ambience that's why I prefer the Kikuchi's score more then the Faulconer Score... but hay these are just my opinion.

I respect Faulconer score but for me personally Kikuchi is superior it captures that 90's dragon ball esque feel that Faulconer doesn't his is 2000's rock opera and for me it just doesn't fit the show I don't like excessive rock for dragon ball especially when that wasn't what Toriyama intended the fact also that there's no pauses in Faulconer score makes it very jarring for me

Qaaman, I respect your opinion wholeheartedly! For me, DragonBall Z Kai holds a special place in my heart because the Nicktoons run of the show was my first exposure to the franchise. I was 9 years old when the Saiyan Saga aired, and I’ll never forget the first clip I ever saw was the moment Goku saved Gohan and Krillin from Nappa’s attack. The power emanating from this spiky haired orange wearing dude captivated me and I was hooked. My cousin had already planted seeds about DragonBall by talking about his own past with watching it on Cartoon Network and buying the action figures. He drew me a picture of Vegetto to go along with his story. I watch the uncut version of Kai and read the manga now, but I’ll never forget these moments of my life because they introduced me to Toriyama’s wonderful world of creativity. Ok so a few moments later here we are , I survived Mr Popo... and I have to say I agree with you, the OG DB was way better than Kai. Kai was good for new viewers , even if the OG version had some funky dialogues ( I'm french and we had the same issues with translators doing whatever they want sometimes lol ) ... Kai felt kinda rushed at times, the rythm, the colors were weird... they definitely should have kept some fillers, there was some good fillers

Me and my brother just finished Kai a few weeks ago. I recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to sit through filler arcs/filler episodes, better pacing, better voices and a script that's closer to the japanese. I even recommend Japanese Kai if anyone doesn't want to watch DBZ where it has the audio quality of a 60s cartoon. Imo the original Funi dub of Z has it's moments but the thing that really holds up is the Faulconer productions/Mark Menza/Nathan Johnson soundtracks, I really wish they would redub some of the movies and tv specials. Yes Kai has censorship but that's mainly due to it airing on Sunday Mornings with One Piece and even that series is censored in some areas, originally Dragon Ball aired during prime time.

I've watched dbz during the buu saga when i was 5 or 6. And since i was so young and dbz was almost over and DBGT was what i remember the most. When i was around 9 or 10. I discovered KZbin and i watched clips and sometimes even full episodes on KZbin. (Although in poor quality) and i got the idea of the full story of Z through the budokai games on ps2. So i guess I'm an og fan. Then kai came on the toonzai channel when i was around 12 or 13 (around the same time i was playing the ps2 games) I was loving it. Even though as an adult i don't like it as much. But ill give kai this. The op and ed soundtracks are absolute bangers.

As a kid, I truly could not stand Stephanie Nadolny as Gohan. As someone who watched the dub of OG Dragon Ball first, I loved her as Goku, but Gohan was so different from Goku that it just gave me the idea that I was watching a character who looked a bit like Goku, sounded like Goku, but was _nothing like him._ As much flack as Colleen Clinkenbeard gets (why are people so up in arms about her voice acting in the 2020s when they were just fine with her back then, especially with Luffy?), I enjoy her take for a Gohan that actively sounds like a different character, so it doesn't sound like he's riding Goku's coattails. Also, people keep calling the soundtrack for Kai bland, but it has some pretty great tracks, especially Tears of Grief for Goku's vision of Vegeta on Namek.

I never minded the original dub, I think the voices fit the animation better. Kai is too polished to me. Especially Sabats work, I think starting with Kai, Vegeta and especially Piccolo sound way too smooth. Here’s the thing about the old dragon ball z English dub; part of loving dragon ball is learning to love the jank. The English dub and the movies with their outrageous soundtracks are part of the overall dragon ball experience. If you’ve only watched Kai or only watched the Japanese dub or only read the manga, you’ve experienced dragon ball but you haven’t gotten the full experience. I love dragon ball, warts and all!

Kai is a Frankenstein monster in terms of the audio-visual presentation. The opening, closing, eye-catches, reanimated shots & scenes, Dub, and sound design are all fresh from 2009 The main bulk of the footage and the music track is all from 89 onward. And it's all stitched together in a really distracting way. Every time you go from the flashy new opening or eye-catches back to the original footage, or from the newly re-animated material back to the original footage...it just pulls me out of the experience. The new "coat of paint" slapped on it just makes the "old material" of the footage and music feel even MORE dated. It doesn't gel together well. At least when you watch the original Z...you are getting a full, complete version of the series that is representative of when it was originally made, when it was originally localized to the US, and it is all consistent with itself within that presentation. That is the BIGGEST drawback. If you are a "completionst" you will likely want to own it ALL...meaning even if you value all the stuff Kai brings to the table, you will probably still want Z. You'll probably feel the need to watch BOTH when you do your collection marathons. Unless you outright hate Z, Kai is just redundant. Z has everything Kai has and MORE. Z has better music placement for the Kikuchi score, it has the Faulconer option, and it was all of the filler and side stories with nothing missing or left our. Sure, it doesn't NEED all of that extra padding. But I am sure you could find ways to say that Lord of the Rings didn't NEED to have all films be over 3 hours, or that Oppenheimer didn't NEED to be 3 hours. The length of a work is not purely based on what is 100% functionally necessary with no room for anything else. So Z...warts and all, flaws and all, at least gives you the most full experience without anything left out. Again, if they wanted to just do "Dragon Ball Z: Special Edition" and JUST edit it down and re-dub it but otherwise keep it a 100% authentic experience to the original presentation(opening, eye catches, Japanese and English music plscements) then that would be fine. It would JUST be Z but shorter. It is all of the "new open, new eye catches, new closing, new title for the show, re-animated shots and scenes spliced in" that makes for a really disjointed viewing experience.

I was pretty surprised Kai aired on Nickelodeon. Kai had a good introduction for OG fans and newer fans since the main show hasnt been around since the 90s (Japan), and early 2000's for Americans. One of my biggest issues of Kai was the censors of blood and graphic language. At least they Piccolo to say "Makankosappo", but sadly it went back to SPEICAL Beam Cannon.

Not only is the pace way faster, but the voice actors in Kai are much more experienced and skilled than they were in OG Z. Vegeta, Piccolo and Frieza don’t sound like they smoked 100 cigs a day. And before you say “B-but muh Falconer score 🥺” A) it’s a tad overrated and B) Falconer only made like 4 of the songs himself. Like Android 16 said: “Let it go”

I’ve tried watching the kai version a bunch of times i couldn’t get myself to finish it , everytime I hear kid/teen gohan i just hear luffy and I wanna hear luffy i will just watch one piece, and when goku comes back for the tournament they used like circus happy bouncy music , i get it was a happy moment but it was a sad happy moment and the dialogue they use in the original z is memorable than the words they use in kai , i know some KZbinrs prefer kai over the original z like geekdom does haha and many other people, but as more me when i watch dragon ball , its gonna be dragon ball, dragon ball z , dragon ball gt , dragon ball super no kai

One thing in your favor that you forgot to mention is that if you want to watch the show in chronological order there is no OG Dragon Ball Kai so when you watch the English dub of OG Dragon Ball going from that to Dragon Ball Z Kai is a rough transition it's better to just wat OG Dragon Ball then watch the original English dub of DBZ

Dragonball Kai is the reason I'm a fan of Dragonball. From Kai I started buying Dragonball Z games on the DS, watching DBZ Abridged with my sister and went back to the original Dragonball. I sorta grew up with it. Regardless of anything, I think its worth existing for the purpose of introducing more people to the franchise.

Me and a friend have been watching Kai and the only thing that really puts me off are these random parts where they clearly redrew a few frames on a character, and the redraws for the vast majority of the time are terrible and out of place. It's so weird seeing the original footage cut to what looks like a vector redraw with over-saturated colors and linework that is completely flat and lacking in depth. It must be a unique version of Kai we're watching since I haven't seen anyone bring it up.

Watching the Japanese original was already your go to option if you wanted the story told the way Toriyama intended, making an english dub accurate retelling with filler removed seemed to be a lot more work than it needed to be

The way Kai is re-edited and re-worked structurally is also quite frustrating. Almost no character has their original introduction preserved. Almost every new character is revealed in an eye catch BEFORE they are introduced. The eyecatches also spoil things like certain character alliances and the level of damage they receive before they ever happen on the show. If you KNOW the show, that's fine, but if you are trying to show someone new, or you are a new fan yourself...it is going to weirdly over-show and reveal things before they actually happen in the show. Many of the commercial breaks and episode breaks are also awkwardly placed and decided on because that isn't how it was done originally. Kai just carries the extreme sense that it is an awkward re-edit of something that previously existed. It is fine to let things be what they were in their original form. We don't need to take Terminator or Die Hard and re-edit them according to how we would do it today, and then give them new names and credits and redo the VFX shots, alter the music plscement and trim a few minutes out to try and "modernize" them. They were made in the 80s exactly as they were...just present them in as high of a quality as possible. I feel that Kai caters to people who don't want to watch OG Dragon Ball and put no value on what the original DBZ meant to the industry of Anime and general culture. It caters to a more casual fanbase who just wants to rush through the material as quickly as possible to get to Super.

Basically, to me, DB Kai isn’t some bolt from the blue manga accurate adaptation. It’s a recut of Z that tries to emulate the pacing and content of the manga, but it isn’t the manga. Believe it or not, the manga and anime are written very, very differently, and due to Kai’s choice to use reanimated footage from Z instead of original animation, it chose to go the anime route. Gregory, Bulma and Ginyu switching bodies, that ship Vegeeta leaves Earth in, Mr. Satan’s manager and students? That’s all anime exclusive stuff, and that’s all stuff in Kai.

I'm an OG fan, was watching during the Toonami days when I was in kindergarten and was even Goku for Halloween in '99, and I prefer watching Kai because it gives me as authentic of an experience as it's possible to have while listening to it in English, which is my preference for anime on the whole, and does the work of removing the bloat and the bad filler like the Garlic Jr. "arc" and the Ginyu Force on King Kai's planet for me, rather than me having to fast-forward and skip episodes (while either suffering through the old dub's rough spots or reading subtitles and hearing voices that aren't my preference) while watching Z. That's why I like and care about having accurate dubs in the first place. I'm that fan who wants to be met in the middle so I can just enjoy my anime as painlessly as possible after living through the days of "Part 1/3 (HD but actually 360p at best)" on KZbin. (Hell, give me a version of Kai that uses the Z openings and endings for that extra authenticity, and now we're REALLY cooking.) And while I love Dragon Ball, I'm not someone who automatically loves something just because it's got Dragon Ball in the title or Toriyama's name on it. I respect the man for what he did in his prime, but I despise Super on the whole, even if it has moments that click with me subjectively, and I think it would have been better if he'd let the series rest instead of giving us a mountain of retcons in a story that isn't even good. As genius as he could be, it being his idea doesn't make it good by default, any more than someone like Rent A Girlfriend's author being behind something else would make it bad by default. Things need to stand or fall on their own merits, not be propped up or scorned without proper scrutiny based on popular consensus, brand loyalty, or blind worship of a creator. But I digress, I'm just explaining my mindset as it pertains to assessing things that carry the Dragon Ball name, or the name of anything I care about. Kai is just a less bloated Z with a much better dub, and that's all I need it to be for it to replace Z for me on the whole. I can still watch the Z movies for fun during a Kai watch, and it's the best of both worlds.

I don't know if it's been done in detail, but as a Japanese learner, I'd love to compare and contrast the Japanese DBZ and Japanese DBK unsubbed, both for actual script (not translation) changes (like Gohan originally saying "Kamehameha" during his first fight with Vegeta while performing a move that's always been called "Masenko" in every other Japanese DBZ media ever), and for a comparison of performances. That's one reason I always appreciated a faithful story mode in the games. From the audio quality difference alone, you'd usually be able to tell those weren't lazily ripped from the anime. Kai gives a fuller context to the scene as part of its aim was to cut out inessential fluff rather than just make a set of fight cutscenes by cutting out the scenes not directly related to the fights the way the games did. Granted, I haven't watched Kai in Japanese all the way through since I end up gravitating towards the true original anyway, but hey, if I'm bored enough, that's one piece of Dragon Ball media for me to go to.

I know it says OG FANS ONLY but this is just nostalgia talking. I watched Kai when I was a little kid, and I'm an adult now, so I guess it's hypocritical of me to say, but still. It's the Dragon Ball I know. The translation is better, and Sean Schemel's performance is leagues above his performance in Z. I understand disliking Frieza and Gohan's voices but that's personal preference more than anything. I haven't watched Buu Kai though, I'm pretty sure that does actually suck. Overall, I would say the manga is infinitely better than both animes tbh.

Kai is what got me into Dragon Ball as a whole. I can remember it clearly. Clicking on to Nicktoons and immediately become enthralled with Dragon Soul. Becoming blown away with Piccolo and Goku vs Raditz. Setting my alarm every Saturday morning so I can catch the next episode. Bitting my nails through the Namek Saga and the fight against Frieza. All very fond core memories. Then I googled Dragon Ball because I didn't want to wait for the next episode (right after Goku went Super Saiyan) and discovered the OG series. It was all downhill from there. After falling in love with Dragon Ball as a whole, my brother got me the ENTIRE og series Box Set for Christmas. So when I think nostalgia, I think Kai.

I watched the OG series (dubbed) when it 1st came to the states and only came on for one hour on Sunday morning...we would get about 10 new episdes and then 3-4 months of reruns before the story resumed....about 5 yrs back i watched the whole series again by myself and then w/ my now fiancé...just started watching DBZ Kai last week since the Funomation app is no more and I was ready to throw up...i want to put my 15 yo son on to DBZ since he never really got into anime but is willing to watch now, and I felt like a bad parent watching Kai w/ him bc there is no character development and rhe pacing is way too fast...outside of Ninja Scroll & Akira, which I saw years before DBZ ever came here, the pacing and long dialogue during fights were things that made not only the series endearing, but set me up to watch more animes in the future bc it was a soet of staple of anime...not having that and seeing all these story arcs get wrapped up quick and in a hurry throws me off...there is like 0 character or story development in Kai, its literally just a Cliffs Notes version of the series where you only get the main plot points and thats it...not a fan of subtitles, much rather watch a show in the language that I speak, so Crunchyroll having random OG DBZ episodes not dubbed in english is a bummer, but I still will choose to show my son that version compared to the neutered version that is Kai

So, as a new fan, to me, Kai isn’t bad. I’ve tried to watch OG DBZ, but, honestly I just decided to not watch the whole thing but instead just watch the filler. The filler could be good, and it could be bad… like really really bad… but, I think Kai might be kind of worse, besides the lines being more accurate. DBZ has the Falconer dub, some good filler, and those additions may just rank Z over Kai for me. I don’t know. I mean my opinion is obviously wrong, I prefer Super over anything. I grew up with both Z and Kai, but when I rewatch Z I mainly watch Kai, no filler, (even though there are filler I like) better voice acting, more accurate dub. I recently rewatched Saiyan Saga to Androids saga after like many years and I think it's genuinely better. im actually watching the Kai's Buu saga for the first time. I loved hearing Sean Schemmel screaming "YOU FOOL" or The "I am" speech. I prefer Coleen's Gohan but I don't really care for her Android 18 or Kid Goku. I like Monica's Bulma, but I prefer Tiffany's.

As someone that has watched the original airing ot Dragon Ball series - multiple times - before Kai was released, I could never care about Kai. As you said there is a lot of nostalgia involved - Kai has different translation, it's not the translation I am used to and it takes me out of the experience. Cutting out the filler episodes also isn't always a good thing, there are some series that make excellent use of their filler to flesh out the world beyond what a time crunched mangaka could do under a strict oversight of an editor. Yeah, Kai has literally 0 value to people that were previously familiar with Dragon Ball, and frankly I would never recommend anyone to watch Kai instead of the original version

I'll probably sound like an old school DBZ fan but I don't care. I grew up watching dbz in late 90s all the way to the mid 2000s on toonami so I never watched Japanese dub simply because they didn't show it on tv. But how I see it, DBZ kai is a watered down version of the original. I personally enjoyed the filler of the original because I see it as all apart of one masterpiece series. DBZ kai takes that away. As an older DBZ fan, I don't like that. Also the gore is gone in kai. So that's another thing they took away. I definitely don't like that as an older DBZ fan. I will give you it does have better dubbing, but it comes at the cost different voice actors that I did not grow up with. Even Goku and Vegeta sound different, I don't like that. So for these reasons, I will always pick the original over Kai.

I've been an OG Dragon Ball Fan ever since I was even Alive and I sincerely do have a strong sense of Nostalgia, but I find DBZ Kai a much more Improvement over the Original DBZ Anime, it fixed all of the Problems it had by cutting down the Filler Content, Improved Voice Acting and Dialogue, removing Original Background Music Covers and Pacing Issues, DBZ Kai was a Return to Format of the Original Japanese Version and it's Faithful to the Original "Dragon Ball" Manga, while sure, it does have it's fair share of Flaws like reusing the same Old Z Animation back in the 90's but it's just a Remastered, not a Remake, others scenes that were Re-Drawn like Goku's Heart Medicine being a Pill Product than a regular Liquid Product, but I completely went passed all them and Enjoyed it for what it is, Now if I were to be Mindlessly Nostalgic about Dragon Ball Voice Actors, I am still really Pissed to this very Day that Vic Migongna is no longer voicing Broly and was replaced with Johnny Yong Bosch (Johnny is Amazing, but he is not and will never be Broly to me), I can Accept Voice Actor changes like Bulma, Frieza (R.I.P. Chris Ayres), Kid/Teen Gohan and Kid Trunks, but Kicking out Vic as Broly is where it draws the Line, It makes me very Curious about what Dragon Ball Daima's Voice Actors are gonna be like compared to the OG Dragon Ball's Voice Actors, the obvious ones like Kid Goku and Kid Bulma (maybe Kid Gohan?) are still going to have the same VAs from "OG DB: Curse of the Blood Rubies" Movie (Yes, that's how Colleen and Monica 1st Voiced Goku and Bulma before DBZ Kai), of course they're gonna bring Kid Vegeta's VA from the DBZ: Kakarot Bardock DLC, but who are gonna be Voicing the other Kid Versions of the OG Cast like Krillin, Chi Chi and Piccolo, only Time will tell.

I grew up with the Toonami era of DB, literally the first episode of DBZ I ever saw was SSJ Goku vs Frieza back in late 2000. I watched the show religiously until GT where I dropped off for years. I don't have too much of a problem with Kai, it's only Gohan's voice and some of the brain dead censorship nonsense that irritates me, getting rid of most of that filler was a good decision, because I explicitly remember during those old days, (especially Namek) getting bored as fuck throughout a lot of filler episodes. Especially that Ginyu frog stuff, literally fell asleep back in 2000-2001 during that part.

Apologies in advance for the wall of text incoming but I wouldn't even say I fall into any of these categories. I think Kai has a special place for someone in my shoes, which isnt a very wide reaching situation, mind you, i realize that. While I do absolutely love the original series, dont get me wrong, I also enjoy and respect kai for what it did. The original is just too damn long, when Toriyama passed I finally started watching through the original sub, i always intended to but just never had the time and this is exactly the reason. I started with episode 1 when bulma hits goku with the car lol. I am literally now just finishing up the fight with goku vs. Krillin in the 22nd tenkaichi Budokai. That just goes to show you how much time I get for this. I'm in a weird area where, I don't have all 42 volumes of the manga, I have like... Maybe 20 or so? So i cant get the original feel of it if i want that way, and plus, I just don't have the time to read through all of it either, I'd much rather be multitasking doing something else with it on in the background, you cant do that when youre reading. Maybe back in the day i may have been able to but now? Not so much, the other thing is too, the original show, with the filler, while mostly great, just makes it too damn long. Like you said, dragonball does filler right, i dont deny that, but I just dont want to commit to doing that for 300+ episodes, kai condenses it for those that just dont have the timesink for it. I am a hardcore fan, dont get me wrong, but other things in life take precedent too, and thats why kai, i feel has its place, its something easiER to digest than the og dbz. Do i prefer the original with the faulconer track? Absolutely! But with how crazy life can and HAS gotten, kai is just the easier option for someone that wants to absorb content, but doesnt have the time to commit to it. To the people who are irritated by Dragon Ball being censored nowadays: it ain't their fault. DB Kai and DBS are censored the way they are for 2 reasons. One, they both air on Sundays at 9AM like One Piece, rather than Wednesday nights at 7PM like DB, DBZ and DBGT. This means that a lot of kids are gonna be watching DBS, and they can't get away with as much stuff. And two, because Japan's censorship laws aren't the same and because Dragon Ball is a global media franchise now, this means that Toei Animation has to make changes to the series that make it easier to market worldwide. TL;DR Kai is censored because new timeslot + censorship laws + globalization.

Amazing music that definitely mixes faulconers techy feel amd kikuchi's traditional feel and combining that with the "uncut" version of Kai definitely makes DBZ Kai a treat to watch :)

On paper, Kai is better in every objective way. IN EXECUTION it was very poorly handled. If Kai was JUST Z but with restored/remastered image, edited down and redubbed. That would be fine. If it was done as some "Manga Cut" alternate viewing mode on a DBZ blu ray, with the same options of being able to watch in English or Japanese with the Japanese or English music...that would be fine. The issues I have is the insane visual and aesthetic inconsistency of Kai. A new opening, new eye catches, new closing, remastered sound design. All new. Then the main body of the series is still a vintage anime with the vintage Kikuchi score. Oh, with some randomly newly re-animated shots and scenes. It makes the main show and music feel even more dated when it is spliced into these brand new openings, eye catches, and re-animated shots. It pulls you out of the experience. At least Z...full on original Z, is a product of its time...both the Japanese and American version, and you can appreciate that "time capsule, representative of its era" nature that it has....but at least it is that in a 100% consistent way with itself.

I am not an Og fan but I'm obsessed with the series really I have. Knowledge in -Voice acting -Animation -Various animators and what their distinct art styles are -the Different Colors and Disservice of which is done through out the years -the story plot line themes e.t.c -whats good and bad. -guide books -expansive knowledge on how the forms work -Cosmology i.e powerscaling wise And so on so forth Literally everything It's to the point I know a little too much about the show If the show was person I would be considered it's stalker 😅 (Do not take that line seriously it's a joke) So yeah Also ummm I guess I know everything there is to know So I'm waiting for daima Because I've scratched everything else and milked it to a dry husk Also I can Answer any question about dragon ball

I was on Dragon Ball Buu saga 1 year before Kai came out. Love OG Z but the visuals are always way too saturated. When I’m watching Kai the Final Chapters, I feel like I’m watching a Toriyama water color painting

Note: I actually got into DBZ and Kai at the same time so I feel my opinion on it is a bit unique and unbiased. I watched Kai on nicktoons while also watching Z (depending on my circumstances or how I felt that day). And the little bit of censorship that IS in uncut Kai, isn't because of Kai. It's because of the softy times we live in so I can't hold that against them Sorry Qaaman but i gotta disagree with this one. To me, overall Kai is fundamentally better if you watch it uncut. Most of the OG actors are back and have improved a lot since Z. The dialogue is MUCH better (I find most of og Z's dialogue cringe) and manga accurate, the pacing was superior, and for me not having nearly as much filler is a bonus. Most of DBZ filler is absolute garbage, but if i do wanna watch some like the driving episode ill do just that. Otherwise I'm watching Kai. Chris Ayres is the best Freeza hands down (rip) Only thing in Z i prefer over kai is the score, and the voices for Android 18 and Gohan. And to me, Kai isn't completely useless because not everyone prefers to watch subbed (like me), and there are feelings/layers of emotion that you can pick up on in voice acting that isn't so prominent and obvious from just reading a manga. Plus, Kai doesn't have ZERO filler, it still has a bit to establish world building. I'd say it's a tad too little filler but I'd take that over the abundance of God awful filler I put myself through when watching Z

Gotta be honest, as much as I love the og run of DBZ, I've been watching Kai on Hulu uncensored, and it's so good! Obviously i miss stuff like the driving filler, but the dub is so much better than og. While it'll never be og, or even the manga for that matter, it's a familiar and more digestible cut of the series. Also, the version of Kai with the og Japanese score by Shunsuke Kikuchi, just hits so much harder imo.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. There's nothing wrong with filler in dragon ball! Sometimes it's bad but other times it also shows that they have a life outside of dying and coming back to life after fighting a super bad guy. It's nice to have breath of fresh air in a story. And as a guy like me who likes watching tokusatsu. I've also watched the Japanese version of Dragon ball & Z & Super. It doesn't bother me. Hell if anything it made center arc's feel so much better to sit through. And some not so much. But with every good filler there's bad filler too.

I remember when DBZ first aired in the UK we were around 7-8. My god we all tried so hard to get energy beam fights going 🤣 I've done so many rewatches in both English (Falcouner with Gohan sounding like he smoked 50 a day) and Japanese. Fuck yes Dragonball, fuck yes.

I’m an og and that is my go to, it’s the version I go back to the most or just to see scenes. Now at first didn’t like Kai, Eventually put my pride aside watched it. And I do love the voice acting. Still I’m picking og all day. Every now and then I might get a sense for Kai and rewatch it. Not so much with final chapters.

I personally believe I’m not bias to nostalgia of the dbz, I like the early seasons of dbz Kai. Do I think dbz Kai is better than its ancestors, no. You want to know why!? Because back in the day multiple English dub studios was creative with their dialogue even though it’s inaccurate to the source material, I can say pretty confidently that kids or children do not care about how accurate was dragonball Z back in 90s when they was watching it. Kids did not critique every single misinformation or inaccuracy while watching dbz on Saturday mornings, most of the kids around my neighborhood didn’t even know dragon ball was an anime. They just assumed it’s another cartoon, so when you watched cartoons you are not constantly analyzing the logic, errors, and inaccuracy. You watch cartoons for fun, and that’s the perspective majority had while watching dbz in the 90s. You watch dbz for fun as long as it’s fun then all the other aspects or elements are irrelevant or not needed. Whenever I want to watch anything dragon ball related I want to feel like a kid again, so me turning my brain off is a necessity so I could experience my childhood again and again, I don’t like the feeling or having the perspective that I’m in reality just watching tv, no! I like the feeling I’m a part of the dragon ball world. That’s the biggest flaw of dragon ball super, very often dragon ball super’s obvious inconsistency takes you out of the immersion. Dragon ball super tries very hard to hard to be so technical that it shoot itself in the foot mores times than I could count. My problem with dbz Kai is specifically with the final chapter but overall I have an issue with their choice of dialogue, sure dbz Kai is more accurate. But being accurate isn’t always better, I value creativity over accuracy when I consume a product. If you are able to be creative while keeping the narrative accurate to the source material, than hey we got the best of both worlds. But when accuracy restricts or overshadows creativity then I personally can’t imagine how the product would be fun to consume because at the end of the day i am a consumer, and a consumer doesn’t want to be consuming accuracy every single time,being more accurate doesn’t create excitement. Creativity does! So my examples or bullet points of compare and contrast creativity to accuracy with dbz and dbz Kai and a little of dragonball. Most of the banter from dbz to dbz Kai are so different, the banter of dbz Kai are lack luster and boring compared to original dbz. Dbz Kai maybe more accurate but the banter suffers considerably, banter is a good aesthetic to a fight scene especially with dragon ball because they talk a lot in between fights. So engaging banter is a necessity to dbz Kai in which they lack, despite this criticism it’s understandable because the jokes,banter, and the way they talk is far different in Japan and in America. Jokes and banter doesn’t translate well over in America. So when yamcha in dragonball after he hit goku with the wolf fang fist and then goku went flying into four or five rocks, said in the English dub “unless you don’t want to go to sleep amongst the rubble don’t provoke me again” that banter doesn’t translate over in Japan, it just won’t be received as funny over in Japan but over in America it’s hilarious. But in the English sub yamcha said “do you want the fist of the wolf fang again” I don’t know about anyone else but I prefer what yamcha said in the English dub than what he said in Japanese base on that example, and that example has carried over to vast characters in the series that have banters or speeches overall. But most importantly to the characters that speeches and banter are their core characteristics such as vegeta. Vegeta in dbza Kai banter and speeches are lack luster and bland compared to dbz, vegeta’s speeches is a testament of creativity and liberty of the English dub studios. That aspect was one of the best dub change that should’ve remained intact throughout dbz Kai despite how inaccurate it is. That’s my opinion on that, accurate to the source material isn’t always better especially when creativity exceeds or be as good as the original source material.

If you're going to watch Z watch it subbed. If you want a great dub for Z stick with Kai, Z's dub is NOT worth the watch

I’ve always stated the same I couldn’t click the vid smh faster…I know Kai gets rid of a lot of filler but those fillers and especially the music matching the scenes(especially Super Sayain transformations). Anytime I run it back on DBZ, it’s always the original not Kai

I will never subject myself to watching and sitting through all that filler that's in the original cut again because that shit tried my patience then and it's worse for me now. I used to and still do make fun of the amount of time dedicated to stare-downs and worthless filler. Kai isn't perfect but at least it respects my time.
