⌖ Greetings everyone!
Dragon nest, oh Dragon Nest.. It's such a good MMO! But I thought I'd take a deeper look at it and truly see if it's worth it right now for a new player.
It's got a bunch of classes, fluid action combat, and great visuals.. unfortunately its population is decreasing, which is sad.
Anyway I hope you enjoy the video and let me know your thoughts regarding Dragon Nest in the comments, as I'd like to know what you guys think! :)

ButtWait! I agree on that note, but right now the devs are using their brains. Theres gonna be a world revamp that fully utilizes the whole maps of lagendia + the return of adventurer's mission board beside dungeons + all dungeons scale per level (meaning you can continue the story at max cap while still enjoying the difficulty of 95 dungeons) + upcoming nests will follow suit with Forest Dragon Nest style (semi realtime combat, where the maps are usually open and multiple mechs/bosses that interconnect the nest) Now, right now the game is at its worst... But imo that world revamp plan is b e a u t i f u l and will make the game so much better

ive been playing a lot of new mmorpgs but i can say that no game yet can match the combat system of dragon nest , its probably the only thing that makes the game active , especially in pvp where low level can beat the ass out of higher level players and can do 2v1 , it all depends on the player of how good they are not on the levels or items , its a game that PRO PLAYERS actually exist

I don't want to come off as rude by any means but your review here wasn't a review really of the game but of sub level 30 content. I no longer actively play the game however do come back to it from time to time just to run a raid or pvp. The game is fun however without an active group of friends to play with at the higher end content it does become fairly boring however for those who want the challenge of soloing all the content the challenge does exist in the game. Before this review video was published you should have experienced content that pretty much 90% of the remaining player base partake in, to have a feel on whether the game is worth playing. This video was more a question about the games current state from the masses instead of a review of the current state of the game from your view point and experience as well as shown yourself partaking in the 95 content solo or with a party. Great delivery in your video just greatly misleading.

I agree with you. Like most mmorpg nowadays, the core of the gameplay is the endgame and the video didnt really go over that. There wasn't even more than 1 action bar worth of skills at the end. To put it in perspective, there has got to be 6 year plus worth of content after the end of the video. The game is really that old. I'm not sure how I can trust a review talking about the state of the game in 2018 when the reviewer hasn't gotten pass near initial release content.

Honestly this game sucks until you maxed your level and get decent gear for entering nest. The gameplay is really fluid and honestly that's the only reason I play this game. I don't like grinding so I stopped playing at decent gear. This game is really grindy if you don't spend money on it. You can achieve end gear without spending any money but that's gonna hurt you a lot, both mentally and physically.

played DN SEA (Dragon Nest SouthEastAsia) since its opening (still playing until now).. main Town is Saint Haven (where max level players gathers), it is very lively.. not a dead game hahah (Saint Haven Channels will be Crowded/Full on nighttime GMT+8, because most of the players are working peoples = they got back home at that time).. also, they are doing very good job balancing Pay2Win and Free2Win feature, newbies having easier time on each patch/updates (example, newest Labyrinth with great free-buff for beginner & gearing up is much easier and "possible" nowadays (you can farm gear enhancing materials & sell = you can afford to gear yourself). Personally, I stayed because of the PvP system.. very very fast-paced & I honestly feel happy when I actually wins a match (just spamming Captain-Mode.. yea sometimes got bad teammates lol).. also their seasonal events! great rewards! for Free Players of course! In short, totally worth playing! there are very easy guide to level up to max (currently 95), and you need to reach max level to actually enjoy Dragon Nest's contents (MMOByte need to reach max level, then do this review! thanks!) let me give the leveling guide here LoL (you can use any gears you get while leveling, just equip anything you found, that is better) 1-10 : Story-Quest 10-16 : Sigh Canyon (South Calderock's Portal) 16-24 : Dark Tower Magician Institute (North Calderock's Portal) 24-32 : Flooded Downstream (South Saint Haven's Portal > Hermalte Port) 32-40 : Gates to Death City (West Saint Haven's Portal > Black Moutain) 40-50 : Dragon Follower Base (South Saint Haven's Portal > Riverwort Wharf) 50-60 : Meteor Crash Site Boundaries (South Saint Haven's Portal > Riverwort Wharf) 60-70 : Golden Meadow (East Saint Haven's Portal > Anu Arendel) 70-75 : Flame Canyon (East Saint Haven's Portal > Anu Arendel) 75-80 : Wailing Wall (East Saint Haven's Portal > Anu Arendel) 80-90 : Blue Wind Plains (Dark Gate, near West Saint Haven's Portal > Merca's Heart) 90-93 : Red Waste (Dark Gate, near West Saint Haven's Portal > Rhadames) 93-95 : Abandoned Wharf (Dark Gate, near West Saint Haven's Portal > Merca's Heart) p/S : Things will get a bit harder at level 90 and above, you got to gear up pretty well (newbies should already know about the game at this stage, and know what to do to gear up). Man, I really typed a long one! good luck! (shows how I really love this game)

This was a great short guide to who want to play. I was DN SEA player too. Serious playing until Apocalypse & Manticore Nest release, then solo run on Abyss, survive it then stop playing. I would say it not pay too win at all, i not spending even a cent for this game. Just simple gearing, and potential adjustment. I run with normal rare weapon and off (+13 rare both, not that hard as long you persistence) and epic (+10 is enough) a pair of acc set to run it on that abyss nest solo before. But, you need to understand what you do. For example, I play as Hunter with Altillery build (that time 3rd job not yet release), i put as many as possible INT and M.atk potential that I can get on my gear, and not use high atk weapon just because it look more cool. Oh my, such a great old day. Maybe, i'll instal again someday in the future.

The nests and raids are what really kept me glued to the game, despite it's flaws. At the time, the content was so challenging and fluid that it was fun to learn from your mistakes and perfect certain bosses (e.g. Desert dragon). In my book, the game definitely stood out as one of the best and most memorables MMOs, but I don't think it is worth to play anymore. For instance, a while back they revamped the game so that the nests were only accessible from level 90 onwards; new players would have to grind, albeit easier now, for hours on end through several levelling areas just to start enjoying the mechanically-intensive contents.

I used to play this back in the day. I remember then the Big Boobed Fan-Service class (I think Kali is their official title) was just added. I Loved this game SO MUCH. It's combat, setting, classes, characters.. it was all fantastic. Easily the best MMORPG I had played at that point, and still ranks really high. Having revisited it later on, I found myself missing how it used to be. I miss the old character creation tree, and the old main menu. I personally think the abundance of new classes added have made the class system a bit cluttered, and the new additions doesn't feel as polished as the original 4 classes used to feel. I enjoyed it a ton, and I got as far as to where I managed to beat Cerberus Nest Solo, which admittedly isn't particularly far, but it was an investment for me. With more time I would love to come back and re-discover this gem, and I can definitely recommend it for what it is, but I'll stick with my gut feeling and say that Dragon Nest's golden age have passed, sadly.

We just got a huge new update that’s made it wayyyy more friendly to new players trying to reach the end game content! As for the population it is extremely small compared to other mmos but that’s what I love about it there’s basically no toxicity among players since we all know each other, even at the highest tiers and you can ask for help from complete strangers and they are kind and thoughtful. As for the p2w aspect well I like to think of it as shortening the distance between you and being OP but everything is still attainable via hard work and grinding, it’s the difference between and monetary investment and a time investment. Hope you all come and play and enjoy dragonnest!! Been playing since beta 16cap P.S the combat though really is #1 I doubt there’s a game that’s as fluid, fun and free to combo in as DN Ign: DoomBlood Guild:Mystic

Dragon Nest is a lobby game, for the most part. All combat is done in instanced content and your performance is rated based on speed, accuracy and damage dealt, among other things. Your rating determines the rewards you get. This is good in that it gives players something to work on, helps them improve and doesn't just reward lazy play. Of all lobby style games I think Dragon Nest is done better than others like C9 and Skyforge. I especially like the NPC relationship system, and I don't hear reviewers discuss that much at all. I wish other MMO had such a system. And while the combat is great, I think TERA online also has a combat system just as good, if not better because in TERA things are a bit slower so you get a chance to see and react to tells in your opponent(s). All things considered, I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent in DragonNest and abashedly recall the money I spent in it just to buy new skins and stuff. In the end, however, I moved on to other games for the sole reason of playing in a more open persistent world rather than a lobby game. If you don't mind the lobby nature of it, I would still recommend it today.

This game is still pretty much active in SEA server and I'd say it's worth playing if you love grinding nests and dungeons(because I do, since I don't do pvp much). Played from cap 40 and onwards, stopped due to technical issues I've to face and finally able to play again when the cap was 93, around 2017. It took quite a time to reach the end-game equipments when you're a casual player, but you'll gradually reach there so don't give up. Leveling is easy nowadays compared to the old days. In the back days, it probably took like 10 runs to reach a single level which sucks, but luckily the cap level was low, lol. But now we only need 2 or 3 runs max to reach a level, sometimes your level will even multiplies(only occurs if you're at low levels, 1-25+, etc) plus with the exp boosters and the help of a fellow RH(you can just solo lol, it's easy.) BUT- the ftg systems nowadays sucks. I will have to admit.

Kaze Well, duh. Sounds like a lazy bastard would say. I'm a casual player(never ever spend real money in game) and managed to have good gears, unique jades and with good epic costumes(and I'm not going to stop here ofc.) just by grinding, doing cp hunt, etc. Ngl, it takes lots of time. Suppose it's my fault that I said "late end game". Rather it should be "mid end game". But it doesn't necessarily mean you can't reach there at all, you can, I know because my friend succeeded. But it obviously will take LOTS of time.
@SchifferThe2nd

What they need to improve is the low level content. This game is basically empty until you reach max level. Endless level grinding until maxed. None of those low level stuff even matters. Once you maxed your level, there's another grinding you need to get through, which is the gear grinding. You're gonna have a hard time grinding them if you don't spend money. You can but it's gonna take a long time and it's going to wear you down. I only play this game purely for the gameplay since it's really fluid.
@iamjvmac

The population though is depending on the region you are in. Dragon nest sea is jam packed and always crowded. As for pay to win issues as you said, for me i have played for quite a long time since its alpha test up until now and i haven't spent a dime on the game. Pvp wise it doesn't even matter if you have gears or not since you can set the rules to be "compensation on" meaning even if you are literally naked so as long you have a weapon even a level 1 weapon you can beat the other person. The cash shop only houses cosmetics, costumes and other perks like pets that picks up money in dungeons and those doesn't affect the other player. Like for example for loots, all the money dropped will be divided equally to the number of players who are on the team and items will be divided accordingly as higher tiered items that are character bound are subjected to dice rolls to determine who gets it.

I took a small break around level 70 being max level, and when I came back, the storyline was shortened and so was the grinding to get your level 50 gear and upward. It made the game not fun anymore, I was looking forward to talking to the old guy who kept forgetting who you were with the new characters, but there were other things that made it go down for me anyways. The game mechanics were fun as well, it felt like playing a fast paced monster hunter with flashier skills. Now that I think about it, the mechanics became a lot easier, I remember they made it so the ground goes red to indicate where to run for safe places or to jump.

- About combat mechanics, they were pure gold until cap 70; after that, new skills prioritize big CC skills and infinite combos that look flashy but damage balance and PvP. Things go worst after that, and now PvP is a mess with only 9 viable heroes of more than 40. (Mechanics are still good though). - PvE was killed when devs try to delete tank and healer skills on cap 80, but fortunately in recent caps those skills where buffed again so holy Trinity remain. - Righ now, there are too much DPS heroes, and just 3 main healers and 2 main tanks. - The game is poorly optimized, has outdated graphics, there are bugs everywhere, and devs just care about new cash costumes with P2W stats. - In conclusion, don't play it if you are f2p, you will never be as good as the ones with a credit card. I want too said that there are better options, but DN is still unique.

I played this game for about 6 years on and off, the best thing is by far the combat system. I Can hands down say on the 6 years i played it is very time consuming to reach endgame and since they did encourage pay to win players eventually there was a huge gap between the best players soloing bosses and the rest thus destroying the community, people left because they felt like they were never going to reach that point without money. It is truly a shame because PVP and Party dungeon-ing was really Really fun. Edit: That being said it is still playable and fun, but to find friends you'll have to reach level cap at least.

*TL;DR* - Played this game off/on since beta. It's gone to hell in many ways that aren't its core, powerful combat, which makes an frustrating love-hate relationship with this game I want to find an alternative to. I've been playing this game off/on since the Open Beta from Nexon (I've even still got the wings as a reward! Which were beyond eclipsed by every subsequent costume item) and honestly, playing this game makes me frustrated, because I don't really *play* it anymore. I come back every few days, weeks, or months or so, and make a little bit of progress, wonder what to do next, and then log off. I agree with most everything in the review. Here's my two cents: I love this game, but I'm absolutely damned by it at the same time, because I cannot, for the life of me, find a worthy alternative, and I've been looking so desperately for months. To its merit, DN is absolutely the fastest paced and most fluid MMO I've played thus far; skills displace your characters in creative ways and it doesn't feel like you're just pressing a button to do a fancy animation. The game plays to this strength by focusing on getting you into instances of dungeons and boss-rush Nests to immediately get you fighting things. Boss battles are preluded by cinematics to hype things up even more. The thing that frustrates me the most is that virtually everything around this hype only serves to kill it. Terrible P2W business decisions designed to milk whales (I've caved to this several times, so I've technically have paid to win and have full Conversion armor), with newer cash items eclipsing old ones and overall accounting for over half your potential damage scaling is a start. And yeah, I'm in a position where I've literally paid to win and don't need to worry about that and I'm still not satisfied. The game being kinda dead compared to 2011 is another one. Like, I'm in a fairly active guild and the DN discord is active and lively too. But a small lively community can only do so much for an MMO. Chilling in PvP with randoms is anything but possible now. Finding ladder matches to abuse blacklisted skills is impossible. Most people you'll see in town are AFK, asking for likes, or are gold bots. There are times where the public party search system is 100% *empty*. Whether or not you can find people to play with and talk to in this game, you *will* feel the effects of its decline. The HYPERINFLATION. Most of you new to the game or who quit probably don't know about this but there was a bug months ago that enabled spamming of a mode that'd give you good few thousand gold per run. Everyone abused the hell out of it, and all of those people got banned for a month lmao. What's worse is that the gold that was intended to be removed from the economy wasn't entirely removed, so the economy was, quite harshly, turned on its head, making it more of a nightmare to keep up. It's calmed down quite a bit since then, but everything's permanently costlier thanks to that one thing. EVERYTHING. IS. R.N.G. Except the endgame gear you start off with. Gear progression now is much better than before at the baseline, at least, with a focus on upgrading your gear from 0 to legendary. HOWEVER getting the extra stats and boosts you want will take a crapton of grinding and attempts with no actual break/guarantee of when you'll get them. Theoretically, you can keep grinding dragon gems forever, and thanks to the inflation, it's noticeably harder to just use your gold to get ahead. Optimization is questionable. I can run Overwatch at 60 and Fortnite at 120fps and here we are in DN getting freezing lag spikes in town whenever someone loads. Universally, if you're in a party and you revive, EVERYONE in the party lags. Given how fast this game is, you can literally kill your team by reviving during a boss mechanic that insta-kills whoever gets hit by it. Lag is the last thing this game needs. (It runs at 60fps most of the time for me in dungeons, where it counts, but in town lmao nope) Overall? Dragon Nest, as a GAME, is good and can be a hella hype time with the characters, combat and storyline. However, thanks to P2W marketing and an endgame grind that offers unbridled rng with little cushioning (this isn't the case for all endgame stuff but a good amount), a lot of times simply enjoying the game can feel like a chore more than a choice. I'm ratting on this game because I've loved it and want to love it more again. It's gone downhill in a way that makes me want to move on, but I can't find a match to its gameplay and it's the most infuriating thing, because I just want this game to actually function well as an MMO.

Also, another thing... the launcher just keeps crashing. For several months I couldn't log into dragon nest. Then, after an update, it got back up again. Then a couple days after I started playing again, I ran into another bug. When you select your character, they'll perform an unsheathing animation. Mine got stuck for about 30 seconds, then continued normally, but I couldn't get into the game. I left it for a couple of hours to see if it would work, but it didn't. I'm not sure if the second thing happened to anyone else, but the first thing definitely did. There were a ton of forum posts about it.

I’d return to this game if the player count/population rise to decent levels. As of right now, even streamers who still play the game only play because they invested money into it through the cash shop and have friends who have played the game as long as they have and are maxed levels. Have to agree with people, cash shop killed the game in a way. Would really like to see the devs fix things and improve what they can in all aspects.

Hello, Personnaly I'm from EU server. It's less P2W than NA and SeA Imo, but we don't have much players. However the game is still fun, you just can't play pick up like Others MMO (except for daily quest). Find an active guild and it's fine. The combat system is amazing, it's super fluid and fast, not like Open world MMOs where there's 5-6 seconds between each mobs. IMPORTANT : They'll bring back harder difficulties for low levels dungeons (it's already in Korea server, just wait 2-3 months for us). But imo, they removed them to force you to level up quickly. I mean, like a lot of people I was angry when they removed it, but end game is so nice and important that you don't want to loose new players because they are wasting golds enhancing lvl 24 weapons. Plus, Idk for other servers but in EU you can level up VERY FAST (1-95 in one day, a little more if it's your first char) And each time you have a maxed character, you'll get +50% exp (max +250%) for your next chars (Only +5% in SEA if I remember). So I suggest you to give a try, there's plenty of guides of how to rush 95 and enjoy the true game :)

I personally think that most f2p game developers (if not all) haven't found the right way to monetize their product. Wrong way of monetization often leads to the lack of good quality content and imbalance in game, causing players to leave the game. Similar things happened to my previously played game, ragnarok online. So, the issue is not new, yet not easy to solve.

Old fashioned 40-100 combination attacks with little damage turned into "everything explodes,you lose your hp, and you dont understand what is going on".I quit after the 60+ cup. I think they should have just focused on making new characters and come up with new level cups only with new skills and no remasters of old ones.

I've been playing the game since 2010, it was good and I fell in-love with the game because of its fast paced combat system. But, as years passed the game went from f2p to p2w. Ex. Costumes back then were just cosmetics and only gave +2 or +3 stats. Costumes now gives boost on damage, HP and elemental atks. With that being said, I quit the game early this year because I can't compete with P2W players anymore. There are more issues, but I wont be mentioning them because this is not the place to rant. :D

Used to love this game. Played it in closed beta and lost my account when they went front nexon to ED. Started over despite losing 10+ chars that were all lvl 60 (that was the cap at the time) but now I have 17 lvl 95s. The fun part for me has always been playing all the classes. Always wished this game had a class mechanic like Eden eternal (ability to be any class on your char whenever) but it ofc will never happen due to the nature of the game. I really wish it was a good game but honestly the only thing I like is the combat and look of the game. The end game is just the same old dungeon grind.... nests are out of my reach and when I join parties I contribute next to nothing. Even in full medeas +6 gear it means nothing when you have one person in the party who's just one shotting the bosses. Then there's the crafting and enhancing system... the absolute worst features of the game. Enhancing just goes too high, and I never ever liked the breaking mechanic of enhancing in ANY game. Crafting anything meaningful take way too many resources. 93 cap did talisman crafting somewhat decently, you could upgrade your green talisman to blue and it didn't cost an arm and a leg but now 95 cap threw that out the window and spit on it. Now you craft the blue talismans from scratch making your old green ones worthless and they cost way too many resources. Wanna craft unique dragon gems? Cya in about 3 months. Legendary? Cya in half a year. Genesis accs? Hope you play every day for an entire year otherwise you will never have even one of them. Oh what's that? New stuff in the dragon egg that looks amazing and you really want it? Too bad it's rng is literally the lottery. My main issue with the cash shop isn't even the shop itself, it's the god damn POS dragon eggs. Hate them with a burning passion because all the good stuff is in them and unless your lucky or plan on breaking your bank in half, you will never get those amazing wings. A friend of mine was kind enough to try and get me some big purple wings I really wanted. Didn't get em. There was an event going on too where since she gifted me eggs, she got mailed the same amount of eggs. She got the wings. I hate my life. TLDR: The devs are shitty people that hate letting people have nice things. Game is too repetitive end game. Dragon eggs are the worst thing second only to trump becoming president.

Honestly, Dragon Nest is a game you need to be nearly max level to have a lot of fun in. All pvp, nests, and what not happen around level 93-95. Unfortunately, it can be pay to win if you only focus on pve, the only money Imce spent really goes to making my characters look heckin cute. They don’t call it Fashion Nest without reason lol. That aside if you REALLY wanna have fun, try out pvp. It can be hard to get into at first, but the pay off is worth it when you can juggle a meta sucking gladiator to death lol. Some of the new updates make low levels fun, and there is a whole community willing to help you power level through the earlier stages of the game.

I, from my personal experience, can say its not pay to win. Rather it should be strive to win. Upon reaching level cap costume stats becomes full "costume" only. What matters is gearing. Then the rest is magic. I have been in dragon nest for a while now and everything is in gold's reach. Even those "costumes" that makes DN "pay to win" can be easy to farm when you get strong enough to farm precious gold. These "costumes" are just freebies that will help you gear easily with its small bonuses. Though this is just my personal opinion and feel free to express your freedom of speech. Nice vid and explaination btw, liked and subscribed 😊😊😊

I've reached the level 45-65 level cap. During that time DN was really an amazing game even with the simplest of graphics. As a player I've experienced pvp and boi it is not as easy as it looks. However during that time it was not very friendly to new players whatsoever. During that time I had a very hard time trying to level up my Cleric and it took a very loooong while until I could turn it into a Priest. Aaaaand after that the game is just meh during that so I stopped playing for like years (Started since I was first year Junior high so I think around 2012). So yeah it was like six years that I stopped playing dragon nest. Though I do stop by and check out what's happening and I kept seeing new stuff added to the game like nests, Spin-off characters, and other content here and there. I saw someone with like a maxed out Dark Avenger and I was like "wonder how long it took you to level up". So I thought about the channel EXP bonus. But back then even with the so called "Bonuses" it still feels like it will take me more than just a month to level up one character to the max. Then Comes along 2018. Where my close friend said he started playing DN again and he wanted me to play with him and I was like "you know what it's been a long time since I last played (then I realize it was actually 6 years ago), the game was I guess pretty bad at giving a helping to new players so why not I give this game another chance." And so I started playing again and holy balls I've been missing out. Big changes as I logged back in. This time newly made characters are actually buffed and can easily clear Master/Abyss difficulty with ease and since it was an EXP bonus around 200% I was like I can probably do this within 2 days. And so my adventure began turning into a Light Fury (And changed it into an Abyss Walker but I have plan to remake my LF before the end of the year) and boi I was never so happy before at this game. It is as friendly as ever to new players and with it's own 95 armor with their respective stats. Today I have around 8 characters standing at level 95 and I have a Dark Avenger and an Oracle Elder standing next in line (LF will go next and another, probably Barbarian or Sniper or Black Mara or the new Rangrid yes I have an Avalanche, or any/both of the subclasses in the Priest or a Guardian, in the line). Overall this game may be P2W still a bit but this game is still really fun to play and worthy of my gaming time. So for the veteran players out there please go back and check out the game and play for yourself. To new players well I'd suggest the same thing. Like it? Then why not stay in our toxic free community and fight with or against us! Don't like it? Well that's fine as long as you had the time to give it a shot!

Every cap there's a dragon. What are you talking about? And the dragons are pretty difficult to fight.
