That really was an unexplored option. But we never see Vegeta reach the bulky form that Trunks had, it's hard to absolutely say that beatdown made him Super Saiyan 2 level. I will say that later on Vegeta blasts Perfect Cell in the back and it merely annoys him. Make of that what you will.
