UPDATE: The squealing was not remedied by lowering the pickups. I double checked my wiring making sure there was no grounding issues. Finally I swapped these out with the Dragonfire Screamers. Problem solved. The Dragonfire people accepted my return graciously. While I cannot recommend these pickups for metal, as they have too much output in my experience.

I swear sometimes they don't wax there pickups consistently I noticed a couple of other KZbinrs had feedback problems with another model the hexbuckers which are there dimarzio super distortion clones

@@jasonjones2769 I think I've seen the video you're referring to. Yes, these Neohex Rails definitely had a lot of noise. Not sure what the reason is. It certainly could be a wax potting issue.

I love the X2N in my 6 strings with normal size strings. But the pick up loses its stuff when you have big strings playing. Looking for something new for my 7 string. I couldn't imagine using one for the bass.

IMO thinner strings always sound better for metal. I play in B standard and use a .052 for the low B it's basically a set of 9's with a .052 - I think thick strings sound like a bass guitar and give a modern djent tone which I can't stand. I have tried a Duncan Distortion on a 27" baritone with thick strings and it sounded like djent bass. I went back to the EMG 81

the dragonfires seem to have a bit more higher mid brightness only noticeable in the lower notes (to me)

Mike, Have you tried the Dragonfire "Dark Phat" hot Alnico5 pickups??? They also come with blacked out oversized poles!!!

@@mikefrombloodofthewolf7076 i have not... I'm about to order them now. They're a $100 for a set... I'm hoping there's a good reason why they're more expensive. Based on the specs... I'll bet they sound absolutely killer!

I did a blind test. Hard to spot a difference especially in the mix. Im a Dimarzio fan (Evolution), but they were almost identical.

Did you try flipping the pickup with the pole pieces on the bottom what I know the crunchlab and dimarzio d sonic have a brighter sound with the rail on the bottom

That design gives you slightly two different sounds in each pickup

I feel like the X2N’s and this probably goes for most pickups, in that I feel they sacrifice an even EQ response but in turn sound more focused. There’s something very unique about the x2n top end that I still can’t tell if I like or not. Sort of trash can and fizzy sounding like but definitely a bit of an evil sound. You can really hear those interesting harmonics they produce on the riff :45 seconds Left To Die by Death as an example. The compressed tight mid range they have in your demo definitely exaggerates the alternate picking, which no doubt helps gain clarity in death metal riffing. It’s almost like they have a compressed midrange but loose and extended top end imo, where that fizzyness in their sound comes from

That is great feedback! I love the X2N. It's still my favorite passive pickup. Thanks for commenting!

So If I wanna Buy one Rhoads,, which would be better, The Jackson RRX24-7 String one (Stock pickup but 7 string) Or The jackson Rhoads RRX24 6 STRING one ( Seymour duncan Pickups, But Less String). Could you help with these two?? For DEATH METAL/ BRUTAL DEATH ☺

@@vicktor_damian6612 they're both great guitars. Either would be a good choice. I guess it depends on what you're tuning to. If you're playing in B or lower, get the seven string, that's what they're made for. I hope that helps!

I was going to get a used 60w ENGL Fireball off Reverb but couldn't afford a cab with the shipping from Europe. I should have bought one while there was still an ENGL dealer in Illinois.
