Just finished the video finally, when I wrote my comment, that was at the beginning of it, knowing what you must have went through...did you throw a controller at the wall trying to get thr staff of reflection hahahaha, thank you to your wife and puppers. I watched this simultaneously as I played the moble version which is the snes updated one with the personality options too, which adds to the depth, but there is just something about the original witch is soooo much better and more charming. You have a life long subscriber here..I'll help you to add views and subscribers whenever I can I recommend you. No 90s kid or modern rpg player will be complete without you sir! Congratulations on 100 completed games! Finally finished watching this; wanted to save it for a lazy Sunday. As always, you give enough running jokes and technical insight to make something potentially boring (like grinding) into pure entertainment. Long games, short games, whichever you can put out, we'll be here! Also, special thanks to all of your assistants for making this possible.

This by far was a big undertaking considering I didn't even realize this was the 100th game to tackle, so I can see why this was the game to make the 100th completed game. The amount of detail that you put over the near 12 hours and 3 part guide is by far the best video or online guide that I have ever seen, which is understandable why this took nearly a month of work to undertake. All this to say, I have followed this channel since pretty early on your existence thanks largely to karmajolt more than a year and a half ago from Castlevainia, and to see the evolution of this channel from there to now is something to behold because early on, it was simple yet easy games to cover, but to what has now evolved into much more today. Honestly can't wait when Dragon Warrior/Quest 4 is covered in the future to see how much more evolved this channel becomes. Anyhow congratulations on completing your 100th game with this mammoth undertaking, and continued success to your next 100, because I'll be here for that undertaking when you get there in a year or so 😉💖👍

I found that putting the hero in the last spot in the formation helps alot. His higher DEF and HPs helps overcome the inability to use the parry/attack.
@UCanBeatVideoGames
@UCanBeatVideoGames Жыл бұрын
I agree, especially towards the end of the game when so many enemies use Magic or Breath attacks, having high HP and some armor pieces that reduce magic damage make the Hero especially good in the last slot. The only one better is a high level Soldier that was converted from a spell casting class and is wearing the Hades Armor which reduces magic damage by 75%.

@@UCanBeatVideoGames I always started with a Wizard and converted to a Soldier so he can Bikill himself. Early game, leaned on the poison needle for physical attacks and especially hunting metal slimes to get enough levels to cast Bikill, then swap out for Soldier to equip the big equipment. Since Fighter falls off, she gets turned into the Sage so the phenomenal AGI score means my healer always goes first for panic-healing.

Wild that you did this project. I am consistently impressed at how fresh your commentary stays despite having to almost constantly speak over hours of gameplay. I know you just finished a long RPG, but I’d like to make a suggestion - Shining Force and Shining Force 2 for the Genesis. Baramos Bomus and Baramos Gonus are actually the dead remains of Baramos separated into a pile of meat and a pile of bones, then raised as undead by Zoma. That's pretty wicked and a little rad, actually!
@Ratralsis
@Ratralsis Жыл бұрын
I always interpreted it as his "ghost" and his "body," both having been forced by Zoma into one last-ditch effort to stop the hero. Your way is certainly more evil, and fitting for the archfiend, haha. Either way, it's a great piece of dialogue-free storytelling.

Zoma and the Dragonlord are still my favorite, sentient BBEGs from video games. The Dragonlord is said to be cunning and all that, sure, fine, whatever. But when you meet him, he actually tries to get you to submit to him! That's wild! And ot enforces all the stuff everyone in the game said about him: amazing little detail they threw in, even if it is so simple as a yes/no instant death. Zoma is powerful and alien, and he controls all the baddies in 2 different dimensions with the power of his will! That's insane to try and think about, but more than that, is how he actually feeds off the pain and despair he inflicts on those dimensions. Not some Ancient Magic, or Evil Artifact or anything, that's just how he works! He understands what can hurt him, and he eliminates it from being able to be used against him (breaking the original Sword of Kings) and sure, the Orb of Light is debilitating to him as well, but that's not a thing that he can interact with, or even really know because it is from a different plane of existence. They did so much storytelling without actually just smacking the players with a text wall like more modern games do.

Interesting note, if you confuse an enemy and it strikes a metal babble, at least on the switch version, it isn't reduced to 1 damage, so the bears can actually one-shot the metal babbles. Can be done on first turn if you're fast and lucky enough.

So I've been picking away at this video (and the last 2) a little at a time, an hour here, a half hour there, and so am just now seeing this final video through to conclusion, six days after it was uploaded. This was a fantastic walkthrough and, as I commented on the first video of yours I ever watched on this channel, this is probably the most thorough, comprehensive video of this nature I've ever seen on this game. Dragon Warrior 3 is my favorite of the DW games and one of my favorite rpgs of all time. This channel is fantastic and you should have a million subscribers for the quality of content you put out and how well researched this walkthrough was.

I played this game so much as a kid, too. I didn't know about Final Fantasy; I knew about Dragon Warrior. One of my family friends played a lot of video games and he'd let me borrow them after he beat them. He had the Dragon Warrior games and I really enjoyed Dragon Warrior 2 and 3. I was very happy to find a game where even if I got stuck, I could still level and both games had a lot of help so you didn't get stuck that often. I definitely followed the guides strictly, though. The first party I beat the game with was the recommended party of Hero/Soldier/Pilgrim/Wizard with the Wizard converted into a sage. On my subsequent playthrough, I did Hero/Soldier/Pilgrim->Sage/Wizard->Pilgrim. I did try converting the casters to soldiers later so I'd have Hero/Soldier/Pilgrim->Sage->Soldier/Wizard->Pilgrim->Soldier, but I generally preferred not converting them to Soldiers. Once I was pretty experienced with the game, I'd do a bit more varied parties like Hero/Fighter/Fighter/Pilgrim->Sage or Hero/Fighter/Pilgrim->Sage/Wizard->Pilgrim and sometimes I'd convert the Fighter to a Soldier so I'd have a Soldier with agility. If I knew how the drop tables worked, I probably would've farmed strength, agility, and luck to 255 via seeds for the whole party, too.

Best guide for the best NES RPG, period. Give the doggos extra treats tonight; they earned their keep with this series! Love your work, man. Enjoy a fun, easy game next like Darkwing Duck or Snow Bros. And if you tackle DW4 later on, at least consider using the Game Genie code that disables the AI control in Ch 5. It makes the game a LOT more fun and allows you to reasonably use characters that under AI control become near worthless (glares in Nara and Cristo's direction).

Congrats on 100 games! I love that a Dragon Quest/Warrior game made it as the milestone; this was always one of my favorite series. I was first introduced to it when I received a copy of Dragon Warrior free with my subscription to Nintendo Power magazine. Having received the D&D red box set a few years previously, I was already hooked on the sci-fi and fantasy genres. This just broke it open completely. My next door neighbor and I would spend hours and hours either playing a Dragon Warrior game or D&D. We even jotted down ideas for a future DQ installment (sadly never completed). Though my NES is long gone, I now have the mobile versions on my tablet, as well as a copy of XI S on my computer. The newer versions of Dragon Warrior III bring in the personality system, which added so much new content to an already beloved game. Over the last few years I had even been working on a 5e conversion for the Dragon Quest universe. It has been back-burnered as life has picked up steam, but every once in a while I pull it up and think on it for a bit.

You're right about how the English release spoiled the twist. But they learned their lesson for the GBC remakes which came out when I was around 10-12. Getting to go into this amazing trilogy completely blind and have that slow realitization hit when I first saw the word "Tantegel" up to it all coming together is still one of the coolest video game experiences I've ever had.

I must thank you for introducing me to this absolute masteriece of a video game. I had so much fun playing this title, and it's many different versions (Super Famicom version turned out to be my all-time favourite), fun I would've missed, if it wasn't for your channel. You have a particular knack for making a game interesting. Massive kudos, for all the great job, that you do, keep up the fine work.

When I was growing up, one of the first games I ever had on the NES was the original dragon warrior. I actually never played II and III, and skipped straight to IV. To date IV remains one of my favorite NES games of all time. I had never realized until watching your play-through of this. That it had even more depth, and was separate trilogies. Looking forward to your play though of IV when you feel up to it. Such a great story.

Fantastic! Thank you for yet another fun series of videos, this time for my FAVORITE rpg of the NES era!! I always enjoy your wit towards the subject matter and lore, and greatly respect your efforts in complete strategy towards these beloved games (95% of which I actually remembered from years ago). The cool glitches and patterns were simply unattainable in my youth and are very interesting to me as an adult gamer. Keep up the great work

I watched this video when you first put it out and decided to give a try to your build on the mobile version I have. I lost track of playing it, but since this series popped up in my feed I watched it again, and i feel compelled to play it again. Love these videos. Looking forward to DWIV.... when you are prepared to go through all this work on it.

Big congratulations on beating your 100th game. Seeing this was a huge undertaking without a doubt, let alone an influential RPG title. Keep on the great content. Hopefully I'll like to see you tackling these shorter games: Super Mario Land - Game Boy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan - Game Boy Streets of Rage - Genesis

Thank you so much for this UCBVG! Your Dragon Warrior videos encouraged me to check out the Dragon Quest series and I've become a HUGE fan now! I've been rewatching your whole DW series about 15 minutes at a time over the past few months when I do my stretches every morning, and I was really hoping you might get to DW4 before I reached the end, but I just finished this one this morning, so I might just go back and rewatch from the beginning haha Reminds me of when I was a kid watching Dragon Ball on Toonami, hoping they'd release new episodes after Goku arrived on Namek, only for them to start over from Raditz. Still loved it then and still love it now! Thank you again for these videos!

Great series. There is another quick level up in the underworld. With Goopies, let them live and cast a few increases and bikills on everyone. Then let the Goopies continue to summon Granite Titans. I've had 60,000+exp in one fight, very satisfying.

Correction: The Sword of Kings does not cast Firevolt when used, it casts Infermost. Thor's Sword is the one that casts Firevolt. Also, when fighting Metal Babbles with other enemies, you can Confuse the other enemies with either the Sword of Illusion/Seduce Sword, Bug Powder or the Chaos spell. In the GBC version, Wyverns can breathe fire. Confuse a Wyvern to get them to breathe fire on the Metal Babbles. This can be done way before learning BeDragon. Also, Swordedge Armor can reflect physical damage back to Metal Babbles as well.

What an incredible video series. I was so stoked to play this as a kid, but I wasn't patient enough then and never beat it. It is an incredibly long game. As an adult, I've revisited it 5-6 times and just love it each time. Hero, Fighter, Sage, Pilgrim (I'm boring...lol). This is my favorite DQ game because in the first two DQ games, all you hear about is Erdrick this, Erdrick that, Erdrick is so great, find Erdrick's stuff, etc...To actually learn where Erdrick came from and how he earned the name blew my mind in 91.

*hugs* Thank you and to your wife so much for covering this game. It took me a while to finish this one since I needed a break from RPGS. I love the long adventures with rpgs but at times I must take a break from these games even from many longplays or streams i watch. Can't wait to see you and your wife cover the 4th game. I've only beaten these games many many years ago via the remakes, only did the nes version of DQ1.
