Dragunov - Black Ops Multiplayer Weapon Guide

This time we're covering the first of the sniper rifles - The Dragunov.
It's a semi-automatic rifle, and is unlocked as part of one of the default classes at level 2.
The 'Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova', or SVD, originates from the Soviet Union.
The weapon was introduced in 1963, and has since been manufactured by Izh-evsk Mechanical Works, or 'IZHMASH'.
Designed for a designated marksman role, the SVD has seen extensive use by Warsaw Pact nations, normally in a supporting role as part of a squad.
Boasting the reliability and ruggedness of the more familiar AK variants, and the accuracy demanded of a marksman's rifle, the Dragunov remains in production today.
Magazine capacity is a healthy 10 rounds, making it the highest capacity rifle in its class.
The Dragunov fires the venerable Russian service rifle cartridge, as first used in the Mosin Nagant - the 7.62 by 54 millimetre rimmed cartridge.
In-game, the Dragunov is capable of dealing one hit kills to the upper chest, neck and head. When silenced, only the head and neck will yield a one hit kill.
Rate of fire is capped to 235 rounds per minute, despite being a semi automatic weapon - this is fast enough for most circumstances but prevents rapid fire as a close range defence.
Recoil is relatively strong, pulling upward and slightly to the right with a slow recovery.
Aim speed is correspondingly sluggish, taking 400 milliseconds to scope in - and cannot be sped up through the use of Sleight of Hand Pro.
Along with the decent capacity, reload times are reasonably quick - just 3 seconds to complete, which for a sniper rifle is more than manageable.
The Dragunov comes with its very own scope by default - the PSO telescopic sight, or 'Pritsel Snaipersky Optichesky', which has a unique chevron reticle and rangefinder.
As far as optics go, it's not a bad scope for the weapon - the default zoom level is adequate for most situations.
Situational awareness is key to effectively choosing a firing location; some spots are obvious - such as windows and towers, but in practice you can fire effectively from any cover with good sightlines.
In fact, it's the less obvious positions from which you'll be able to deal the most damage - although don't expect to stay in one spot for the entire game.
Aiming ahead of time is great if you can anticipate an offensive push by the enemy, but don't allow yourself to become blinkered as danger can come from all angles - not just from the narrow view of the scope.
The superior capacity of the Dragunov means you can be quite liberal with your use of the trigger, but try not to panic when firing - waiting an additional moment to ensure your aim is good will end the fight quicker than blindly spraying and hoping for the best.
Like all the Sniper Rifles, the Dragunov is deadly if employed correctly - no other weapon class has the ability to kill in one well-placed shot at any range.
By killing in one shot you effectively deny the enemy a chance to fight back, and with good positioning and frequent relocation you won't suffer their revenge either.
This weapon is tough to use - the level of precision required and the slow aim speed is at odds with the hectic pace of most games - and good positions are hard to come by within the smaller maps.
Sniping can be a frustrating affair at times - without the support of a strong team and with inconsistent spawns, performing well is a challenge - but all the more rewarding when it pays off.
If your aim is true and your position good, your enemy won't realise they were in your sights - until it's too late.

@WEEKDAAYZ For gameplay channels, you'll generally need to get partnership through another larger org - Machinima being the obvious example. If you own all content you're posting you can apply directly to Google - typically you'll need 1,000+ subscribers and a decent track record of uploading consistent content.

***** True that, I hate the idea of 1v1s and any kind of scoping. I like the sniping mechanics better in this game rather than any other COD. If black ops 2 had bigger maps, I would choose use this weapon more often. Otherwise I save this for a map like Array, Grid, and Jungle.

Juissi Gaming lol I knew I wasn't the only person using the Dragunov. I always have the variable zoom scope on it because sometimes you're very far away and you can't get a guaranteed upper body shot. Variable zoom reduces the risk of your target retaliating or getting away.

While sniper rifles are my primary weapons of choice, this and the WA2000 took some getting used to, since I usually equip suppressors to my guns. Since I had to aim for the head and neck to get one hit kills with these 2 rifles when suppressed, using them was challenging, but rewarding.

@NeXusPredatorGaming I liked Marathon - it lets you take the long way round and avoid obvious routes. Plus, you can get some great snipes off spawn by getting into position before the enemy expect you.

the scope has a wider field of view because in real life its not actually a sniper rifle its designed for use in a squad for medium range engagements an assault rifle can't hit such as entrenched troops, equipment, machine guns etc a sniper rifle is used on its own by a sniper and spotter at long range for taking out high value targets such as commanders and ilk hence the SVD comes with a 4x scope like other designated marksmen rifles such as the G-43 which was pressed into the sniper role instead of 6x-8x or more for genuine sniper rifles

the call of duty maps aren't good for most inexperienced/less skilled sniper players like me. I've tried time and time again to use sniper rifles in both BLOPS 1 anf BLOPS 2 only to resort to use assault rifles and smg's again

kstanni87 . here is one tip to help be a better sniper in CoD... don't go for headshots. Aim right for the chest and you can pull off one shots. Sure you might hit the belly which isn't a one shot for some guns but at least you will send them running and they could run into one of your guys who will finish him. Also, don't sit in one spot. take a few shots then move to a new position. they will look for where you were at instead of where you are.

+samuel stein Tecnically no but teoretically it is,the CZ-75 is manufactured by the Cezch company CZ and the Cezch Republic was a satellite state of the USSR...sooo...aaaand the PM "Makarov" is chambered for a round with poor ballistics (the 9x18 Makarov is balistically comparable with the 380.ACP) and the PM has a magazine capacity of 8 against the 15 rounds of the CZ -And you can convert the CZ in to a machine pistol,pros to that xD

not so much. I rush people with my other classes (all of which I use scavenger, sleight of hand, and hacker). I favor the AK-47 which makes up over 65% of all my kills. I am not the best no, but then again I do have a life outside of my xbox. I can't compete with kids that play xbox every waking second of their lives. But for a guy that juggles 2 jobs, school, and a gf I can say I am pretty good.

I used to hate sniper classes. I sucked playing as one and they would most of the time kill me. I was so frustrated all the time. Now that I know how to use them a little better I actually favor the Dragunov over the others. I prefer high recoil guns because for the strangest reason I use them better. I am used to compensating for my shots. I use the AK-47 with extended mags and this gun now. WA2000 is great but I like the ghost perk and that gun's load out needs scavenger to work.

on PC almost everything he said will completely be impossible to do. people on PC completely own snipers unless you are hardscoping a long distance away such as on Array that big tower. otherwise every medium to short encounter you will lose. PC reactions are so quick no joke.

@ZeRedSpy The trick is not being noticed AT ALL. "Trust in the cloak" as it said in my favorite novel. and it works for me, I get 10+ kills with like just 3 deaths moving from hiding plce to hiding place, some not so obvious But meh, depends on your style, so I wont debate

@PhantomContact3 Correction hardscoping is what a sniper was designed and made for quickscoping or no-scopping is the equivalent of sawing a piece of wood with a butter knife, sure its still going to work but MUCH less efficiently.

I would like to mention, that with the acog attached (at least I only noticed with the acog, i never use the default scope) it takes a second longer to switch guns. Which could mean life or death, so thats another thing to worry about when using the acog.

I've always considered the dragunov a marksman rife it's always been my go to gun and favorite gun in the cod games once you know how to use it time the shots at the right moment and get the fast reflex skills to be able to use it this gun can be quite deadly and earn you a high kill death ratio this gun is hated so much but there's a few that can unlock it's true potential
