While sniper rifles are my primary weapons of choice, this and the WA2000 took some getting used to, since I usually equip suppressors to my guns. Since I had to aim for the head and neck to get one hit kills with these 2 rifles when suppressed, using them was challenging, but rewarding.

the scope has a wider field of view because in real life its not actually a sniper rifle its designed for use in a squad for medium range engagements an assault rifle can't hit such as entrenched troops, equipment, machine guns etc a sniper rifle is used on its own by a sniper and spotter at long range for taking out high value targets such as commanders and ilk hence the SVD comes with a 4x scope like other designated marksmen rifles such as the G-43 which was pressed into the sniper role instead of 6x-8x or more for genuine sniper rifles

Juissi Gaming lol I knew I wasn't the only person using the Dragunov. I always have the variable zoom scope on it because sometimes you're very far away and you can't get a guaranteed upper body shot. Variable zoom reduces the risk of your target retaliating or getting away.

the call of duty maps aren't good for most inexperienced/less skilled sniper players like me. I've tried time and time again to use sniper rifles in both BLOPS 1 anf BLOPS 2 only to resort to use assault rifles and smg's again

kstanni87 . here is one tip to help be a better sniper in CoD... don't go for headshots. Aim right for the chest and you can pull off one shots. Sure you might hit the belly which isn't a one shot for some guns but at least you will send them running and they could run into one of your guys who will finish him. Also, don't sit in one spot. take a few shots then move to a new position. they will look for where you were at instead of where you are.

@PhantomContact3 Correction hardscoping is what a sniper was designed and made for quickscoping or no-scopping is the equivalent of sawing a piece of wood with a butter knife, sure its still going to work but MUCH less efficiently.

One perk you can consider in the second slot is Steady Aim. The reason for this is, when scoping in, it takes 1-2 seconds until a shot can be fired without random spread (a debuff made directly with the release of the game). Since SA decreases hipfire spread, the time until the debuff is gone is less and the chance to hit your enemy after scoping in is higher. The actual decrease of the debuff time is not something I know, maybe you can find that out and tell us in the other sniper guides.

I would like to mention, that with the acog attached (at least I only noticed with the acog, i never use the default scope) it takes a second longer to switch guns. Which could mean life or death, so thats another thing to worry about when using the acog.

I've always considered the dragunov a marksman rife it's always been my go to gun and favorite gun in the cod games once you know how to use it time the shots at the right moment and get the fast reflex skills to be able to use it this gun can be quite deadly and earn you a high kill death ratio this gun is hated so much but there's a few that can unlock it's true potential

Dragunov with its chevron scope, Ak47/74u with the soviet style red dot sight and PK-AV ACOG, and the RPK with the same sights as the 47 and the 74u

Best sniper rifle to use for Ghost. If you can master the one-hit kill zone, the lost power isn't an issue, and you have 40 rounds at your disposal; more than enough for a high killstreak.

Actually, they long since fixed it on MW3 and now the gun's recoil only goes vertically. It's now considered the best sniper to use when silenced and in hardcore due to the fact its recoil is greatly reduced and the fact it still maintains high mobility, along with both the bolt actions, at 90%.

Fantastic recommendations for the Dragunov load out. However, due to the use of claymores I find that Hacker is just too essential for avoiding tripping the mines. Especially against intransigent foes in buildings. Other than that I couldn't be happier with the review and that the SVD has returned to its rightful place as the designated marksman role for Black Ops. an nice alternative is using the dragunov with ACOG and Extended mags i prefer using this. using it in a squad support role as you mention XboxAhoy. but instead of ghost and scout i use hardline and warlord.

@Killerhigs Dragunov personally, (i'm not the person you replied to but thought i'd try help lol), the WA2000 is a decent sniper rifle for anyone who doubts their accuracy, you've got a second shot available very quickly. But for me the Dragunov is the better sniper of the two.

It is speculated that the SVD was used by the Russian 'observers' to the Vietnamese NVA against the US troops in Vietnam to test them, but if this is accurate it was very rare. However, the US governemt had a high bounty for anyone who could provide a copy of the SVD to them at the time.

Great guide, except for one thing. You should switch marathon with hacker pro. You will be able to shoot enemy claymores even without hardened and sneaking up on an enemy sniper to steal his spot and wreak havoc upon your enemies is alot of fun. Also i prefer nova gas grenades over flasbang or cuncossion because they allow me to temporarily block of entrances. It doesn't work agaimst people with gas masks but I stil find it more effective than flasbang or concussion. However this is just my opi

Typically I agree with you, however I believe that Flak Jacket works better than Ghost. If your enemy is watching the radar they will find your nest quickly, or just know the best locations where you will be. With flak jacket you can survive the enemies best efforts to force you to move, pairing this with gas mask you will be impossible to oust. Add in a motion sensor and say the python and you can have an amazing nest set up anywhere that is very hard to oust. Toss in smokes to help you flee.

The PSO-1 reticle on this game is wrong. The real life PSO-1 has four chevrons instead of just one, and the built-in rangefinder is calibrated for a 1.7 meter tall figure only, that's the average human height. The reticle used in BO's PSO-1, its crosshair look inspired on the one from the yugoslavian ZRAK scope, and the rangefinder is directly taken from the belarussian POSP 8X scope. The 1.5m and 0.5m rangefinding markings are meant to be used for hunting elks and small deers respectively.
