I love that you explain on a base level. Stuff like "put 4 dots on the pad" and "start on 2 and then go to 4 when doing the pattern". That stuff really helps getting a grip on things for a newbie. Thanks a heap mate! /Robert in Sweden

That rust remover has been my go to for over 10yrs. The biggest thing is that it removes the staining from tannic acid you get from river water, not just rust staining. Just needs to be applied with a good mist so you get coverage

I'm a Private boat owner who enjoy your vids! It would be great to have a spread sheet type video of sorts that showed the different steps for Gelcoat in various conditions - little or no oxidation, light oxidation, heavy oxidation, perhaps for both white and colored finishes. Perhaps it could include the various products and equipment as well as recommendations for maintenance. I have a relatively new boat w/little or no oxidation and i'm overwhelmed by different approaches and since it's a rather large sailing catamaran w/expanses of gelcoat, I don't want to waste my time w/incorrect or unnecessary steps.

Thank you ! ... love your video because you're not trying to flog some miracle product that'll last for years and requires no effort to put on... Ive been waxing boats for over 15 years and there's no substitute for good surface prep, machine application and then hand wipe off ... I leave my wax to dry over night which is probably not necessary - but it would be interesting to know just how long it takes for the wax to totally harden ? ...guess it depends on temp, humid , brand etc .. anyway - thumbs-up from Australia mate !!

Great video. Quick question, I just bought a bought that sat for a year plus. Has a 12" red strip down the side that is faded. I followed your video, but the red is still a bit faded (white). It does seem to look better, but as it dries out, it gets white(ish) again. Is there a solution to make that red look new again? Repeat the steps until it looks good, or is there another step or product? Thanks!

Hey bro! Thanks so much for the awesome support! That’s a great start! If there’s any oxidation you’ll need to get it out with compound or polish to remover the oxidation or any swirls, then do your Jescar. But, if there’s no oxidation then you are right on track!

@DrakesDetailing

Hey bro! Unfortunately what you are describing is too far gone to do this waxing method I am doing in this video. You’ll need to compound (wetsand first if it’s really bad) polish, swirl remove and seal to. That’s just speculation based on what you have told me. Could need more, and could also need less.

I just discovered your videos and now I’m hooked. I have a 2017 chaparral that is black. I bought it new and I’ve been polishing/waxing each season to maintain its gloss. One thing I struggle with is proper order of doing things. Where I’m located we have. Wry hard water. If I strip the wax using dawn dish soap and attempt to rinse and dry, I seem to always get water spots. Should my next stop be to polish the boat which will remove water spots, and then wax. I just bought a griot orbital polisher and don’t mind putting in the time to make it look the best that I can as a diy person. Thanks
@DrakesDetailing

If it were me, I would be doing around $20-$25 per foot, per step for the top side, and then the same pricing structure rub rail down. If they want rub rail up, rub rail down done, I would meet in the middle of those two prices combined.

Why in the RV video do you say to use a lambswool padded brush instead of a soft bristle brush so that it doesn't damage the gelcoat, but here you're using a soft bristle brush on a boat's gelcoat? Also, I notice you use Jescar PowerPoint for both boat's and RVs. I just bought some because of your recommendation. But because you use it for RVs too it makes me wonder: is it technically a marine sealant? Thanks for the channel by the way. I've learned a lot!

@@DrakesDetailing I'm confused. Even though it's not technically a marine product, Jescar Powerlock Plus will still work for boats though, right? I can’t get enough of your videos. Actually looking forward to it this year. I have a black boat that the marina messed up a few years ago and was all halograms. I plan to compound with will pad then Menzerna 400 with Shurhold orbital & lake country orange pad. Do you recommend just Power Lock after that? Seems like I’ve seen you spray on products and wash them off after that but can’t find the video now. Thanks again!

So I'm actually switching from jescar power lock to Starke hyperhold! I have been testing it for a few month and its working better longer term than the jescar. You can top it with starke replenish si02 for even more protection. drakesmarinedetailsupply.com/collections/starke-surface-technology/products/starke-hyper-hold-polymer-sealant?_pos=1&_sid=1e28b61de&_ss=r drakesmarinedetailsupply.com/products/starke-replenish-silica-spray?_pos=1&_sid=88f02b007&_ss=r

2002, 38 ft sea ray sun dancer: for the exterior, what is the order of cleaning steps? I want to wax, degrease, ceramic coat, buff, and clean from last season, while protecting for the upcoming season. Doing it myself, and I want to be thorough and most importantly, efficient (without cutting necessary corners to save time)

Hey bro! I’d try shine supply’s line of compounds, start with their heavy cut and move down the line of compounds and polishes based off of their compound charts on their website. If the heavy cut shine supply is not cutting though all of the oxidation, then it more than likely needs wet sanded. cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0645/8097/files/compounds.pdf?v=1646261121

Hey Drake. awesome video. Do you seal the bottom of the hull of the boat, which is hard to get to with the boat on a trailer, or do you just seal as much of the bottom as you can reach?

Yellows stains are always first. I don't pressure wash any boat, it strips your existing wax. That boats extremely well maintained. Not sure why you are trying to Dewax it. I use a Dw849 with a double sided Foam pad with the quick release on a boat like this. Not sure how you cut on Topside with that pad.

@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing 9 ай бұрын
Hey bro! It all depends on the condition of the gel coat whether it needs to be compounded or not. If there is a chalky field to the gel coat and you can scratch it with your nails, and it feels like a chalkboard, then you need to heavy, cut to remove the oxidation. if there’s no oxidation just holograms, then just polish, then seal.

Hey bud....Great video. Is there a reason why you don't use the same machine to buff it?
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing Жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, yes the rotary is used for heavy buffing and cutting. If you were to use it for waxing then it would leave a bunch of swirl marks that’s why you use either a force rotation machine or a DA polisher. You cannot use a DA Polisher for Buffing, as it is not strong enough.
