Gave up on Chang'an, didn't care enough to watch the bad ending. This is not a 2019 drama but I started this and gave up on Ashes of Love? because it was boring me and didn't care about the characters plus they annoy me.

Omg same here. I waited for ashes of love to air for the longest. Went to read the novel and skipped so many chapters. I gave up o it and when it funally aired, I watched it and gave up at episode 3.....everyone who watched it love it but said it was super boring ut they only watched it for the leading guy.

Coup De Foudre is one of the best romantic comedy of 2019, IMO. The storyline was wonderful, funny and heart warming, with a very HEA ending to boot. Even the secondary couple's storyline was so good. Its about young love, enduring love and family love......even with a little dog that will pull at your heart strings. A real feel-good drama.

Le Coup de Foudre was good to me, I connect 100% with the female lead (except for the romance part lmao) There's one line that goes ‘笨蛋也挺怕人家知道她在努力的’ which translates to ' dumb people does afraid of others knowing how hardworking she is" this hits me to the core of my heart

For me The untamed was really the only drama that stuck with me this year for Chinese dramas. I gave up so many others ca7se you make a lot of good points. Especially with Novoland great actors but development and arcs make so sense.

one drama i find hard to watch (LONGEST DAY IN CHANGAN) is the one you mentioned - i still caught up with it right to the end but it just gave me an empty feel. The most enjoyable drama for me for 2018/19 was Ever Night V1 - there's a plot, good script, excellent cinematics/camera works & the leads are quite good for their age

You should definitely do a review on Arsenal Military Academy, however, there are many comments about the lead characters. Along with that, i think you should also see Meng Fei Comes Across. I saw another comment, and it gave me back the memories of watching it. XD

I enjoyed AMA, so many strong female characters of various ages. There's no doubt that it gets corny, unrealistic, and obvious script moments, but the chemistry between the main leads (they were also in the horribly cut The Legends) was some of the best I've seen in Cdramas. Also, by the first episode, you knew who wasn't going to make it to the end of the show.

I gave up on Novoland Eagle Flag sometime after the first big battle Ji Ye and Asule were in, but then I skipped a couple episodes and picked it up again a month or two later and I was actually really happy I finished it.

I am not a fan of contemporary dramas but checked out My True friend only because of ZYL and DL, DL who was adorable in Ashes of Love, but got bored after a few episodes! As for the period dramas, which I am a fan of, I kinda of like Princess silver and Listening snow tower! Ok I just got tears eyes from laughing when I heared your thoughts about the characters in My True Friend and how they are not likable and you should run away from them. It is so surprising how different my experience with them was. I only hated Zhu Yi Longs Character and his mother but I liked Angela and Deng Luns characters and if I’d meet them then I’m sure they gonna help me with my family problems :D Bc they aren’t real estate agents but life coaches under cover and their payment is gratitude XD I see how unrealistic this drama is but it was still entertaining for me and at time’s heartwarming ^^

thank you, AvenueX!. i consider this video as a heads-up on what not to waste my time on. especially those heavily promoted ones that i have on my watch-list that i was really looking forward to watch - like 'princess silver', 'longest day in chang'an', 'my true friend' [because of the two guys] and 'novoland3' [because i watched the first two and loved them]. a few of those you mentioned are also those i couldn't finish or even go beyond a few eps. some overly long dramas with episodes going past 50 have begun to reek of commercialism. the stories kept on being stretched with unnecessary plots and plots twists with no value-added, stretching our credibility and patience. i hope there will be enough worthy ones to watch next year not to put me off chinese dramas and movies because i really like them, esp the period ones. those costumes and sets and locations are just gorgeous [china is such a beautiful country]. and many of the really talented actors, both male and female, are really eye-candies. (^;^)

Le coup de foudre does one thing really well: the relationship between the twins was very touching. The rest was cute but nothing groundbreaking. My true friend was so bad. They were all crappy ppl. And I like DL anf ZYL quite a lot...but no.

Me too, I gave up on a lot of dramas. Like you, I watched quite a few episodes from Listening to the Snow Tower and Princess Silver, but in Listening I started to hate the dragging. I was curious to see girl's fighting skills, cause I'm always interested to see a badass woman, but the story was so wierd after, so I gave up. In Princess I loved the female's lead character, I actually like her so that's why I wanted to see the drama, and I liked that she was smart but when her brother forced her to marry the general and all she did before was in vain, I said no-no I'm not gonna look at another one. No one was truly on her side, she was just a tool... I hate this kind of feeling so that's why I gave up.

l was the opposite of you. i finished listening snow tower but dropped princess silver. the last parts of PS was dragging in comparison to LST, which i admit is a bit dragging near the middle but not towards the end.

Hehe the only contemporary drama I attempt on your list was My true Friend. You are absolutely right, even if you are a fan of the actors, the drama itself was so awful! I could not force myself to finish it either. All the ancient drama you mentioned I had dropped also, there is just no connection. Unfortunately, and regretfully I forced myself to fast-forward through the Legend of Hao Ran, Oh lord, I what a waste of time! I absolutely loved All is Well and 長安12時辰！! Just goes to show how differently everyone approaches things! Of course I don’t have the technical background in filmmaking, so cannot evaluate accordingly; I just watch dramas as a diversion/entertainment so my standards are not as high🤓 I also gave up on Legend of HaoLan! 😖 I’m a fan of Ma Si Chun so I enjoyed her drama 加油！Sweet show. yes, I heard good things about 加油，but I can't get around to watch it， as for all is well, her second brother kind of dropped off the radar and nobody knew what happened to him, she didn't have a good relationship with the eldest bro, the kind of "don't want to answer your phone call" bad, but she had no choice but to take care of her father, and she just put up with it, definitely no happy family video chatting on new year's eve type of ending

Thanks for this great channel. Must admit I gave up on Chang'an and Novoland. Still trying to find out why Chang'an was so popular, maybe I should give it another change. I watched All is well to the end and it is one of my all time favorite dramas. Agree with you on the ending, unbearably silly to let the sister give up everything for a family that didn't really deserve it. But apart from that the story and the acting were sensational, so realistic that you would feel like being part of that family.

Yeah the main problem with chinese drama is the script. It s always been like this, hopefully scraping the episode to 40s would atleast reduce those filler episodes and make the script more dense. I still cant finish love and destiny to this day because the drama is just too slow for me to binge and ididnt want to watch it live back then bcs I was afraid that i would waste so much of my time for the drama to go downhill after half of the series.

With My True Friend I was beginning to think it was cultural diference haha! The fact they resolved their clients lives was nonsense to me. They did Zhu Yilong dirty (again). I kind of liked Jing Ran, he and his mom were more relatable for me than the entire story. That's why I hated they didn't give Jing Ran a good development and good closure. The fact they said he was Interior Designer, then he was an Architect, then again a Designer it was hilarious.

I'm curious. Do you have any opinions on My Mowgli Boy? I haven't seen anything on your channel about it. Earlier this fall, I watched 40 enjoyable episodes and watched raws for episodes 40-50. Once the English subs came out, I tried to pick it up again. However, I didn't like what they did with some of the characters, and the revelation of the main antagonist didn't make sense. What do you think?

The only dramas I watched this year was the untamed and arsenal military academy. But the lighting and filter on the actors skin in AMA actually annoyed me so much.

Like your experience, I almost gave up on Chang'an since it was so draggy. Also went into Snow Tower and Princess Silver about 10 episodes. Watched Snow Tower because of the actor, but the story line was so bad with no logic. Princess Silver got almost the same since same thing happened over and over to produce more episode. Because of the name 聽雪樓 sounds similar to 陳情令, it actually prevented me from watching The Untamed until very very late when it got very popular. I think I am glade it happened that way, since I am so addicted to the Untamed now, 2 months off from the Untamed drug 令毒 was worth it for my poor life. Struggling still trying to see if rehab is necessary? T.T

@@AvenueX123 Its complicated!!! They are really fun to watch when they are together in various events. Just like what 胡霍 used to be... but I have become 肖美人的事業粉! He is one of the 2 people I ever became a fan of in my 40 some years of life. I think I am pretty picky about artist's life and not easily like any of them so much... Just like 瑯琊榜，loves the character 小苏 so much, but don't have a feel for 胡歌. The thing that really touches my heart is how Xiao Zhan went from a graphic designer and got into entertainment industry at an older age. He made so much effort and stick through to become a good actor in three years. It really relates to my life and I think it also relates to many smart new working class over 30 years old fans I have seen in Weibo. The real 美強慘 is Xiao Zhan him self. All the obstacles he went through and finally became a well known artist gives me so much energy to want to get better with my life. WYB is very talented also but I see him as another kid that Xiao Zhan pampered like how he took cared many of the kids in the X9 group even thought it was very sweet of them. Now he can really get the right resources and moving forward with his career. You can see from what happens in the recent singing show Our Songs...I feel so happy for him. Still watching the Untamed more times to analyze the acting and the story line... I have to say as a visual artist, it is at his advantage to pick up acting even though he probably still need a lot effort making the right facial expression and movement. He did so much studying and analysis of each character and story...his three years experience tells the world, effort makes difference!

I watched “Listening snow tower” in 2020, never read the novel. I like Qin junjie’s acting in this drama as a sick man & noticed him via this LST. In: the long term cough style was acceptable to me as not necessary flu type/fever type of dry cough - i had experienced this type of soft uncontrollable, incidental cough in winter years ago while studying in The US due to may be weak physical body atm.

Oh gosh thank god you dropped 独家记忆 😂 It was ok until around ep18 where they broke up and the male lead just straight up disappeared for the next whole 4 5 eps 😂 I was raging the whole time as I really like the male lead ;-; I personally feel like he is very similar to the novel’s description 😩 Ugh and then at the end he just appeared again and suddenly happy ending? 🤨 I think the problem is because originally the drama was gonna be 30 eps long but then it got cut down to 24 so all the details are just... 😩That’s why although I like the male lead 张超 so much I’m probably never gonna touch that drama again hahaaha 😂

I gave up on all of them, jie. 🤣 Here's what I do, I'll watch the first 2 eps, then jump to the 2 middle eps then the last 2 episodes, if it's something I can understand, I'll watch the drama as a whole. But man. All of them were just "ugh". Being a xiaolongbao, I tried to stick to watch MTF for ZYL, because duh, ZYL and his acting skills is just love and pure joy to watch , but then. I don't know what happened. They just lost me. I did however finish, with great agony, the MTF. Yes, for the love of Zhu Yi Long. 🤦‍♀️ 🤣❤️ Also, I gave up on those dramas with the epic fail editing. The white snake or something, the le coup something and the others, I don't even bother remembering their titles that's how badly edited they were. I liked Princess Silver, but the subtitles were so unclear the way they were placed, that they regularly strained my eyes. So I had to give it up. I could not stand Novoland Eagle Flag. I thought story and acting wasted the set.

Princess Silver subtitles are done fully. I didn’t watch it as it was being released, instead I binged the whole drama on KZbin last month. I must say, if you didn’t finish it, give it a try now. It’s worth sticking to it till the end.

Novoland: Eagle Flag was one of my favorites last year, I'm still kind of surprised that a Liu Haoran drama escaped you. But you know me - I seem to love ones quite regularly that didn't grab you - big case in point, Tribes & Empires. I LOVED that drama, I've seen it twice now. Big ditto on your take re: Longest Day in...Etc...That one just did nothing after about the middle of the first ep. I don't tend to watch contemporary dramas, so I'll take your word on all those that you passed on. I loved Legend of Hao Ran and I liked Listening Snow Tower a lot too. :-) I tend to watch an entire series once I start it unless I just can't get into it at all. For me, my all-time "I just CAN'T" drama was Ice Fantasy - I must have tried to watch that thing 3 or 4 times now. I just could not do it. lol And I love Ma Tian Yu! But I just can't with Ice Fantasy. Take care, I so enjoy watching your channel!

i think the only drama i finished out of them was listening snow tower. it's a hit or miss for people i think and the plus side for me is that the ending may seemed a bit fast-paced to some people but it was done well. some i'm still watching at a snail pace since too many things happening at the same time for me and some i dropped as well, such as princess silver.

I watched PS from 49 to 58 non-stop. I liked lead female character, she was pretty good, Rong Qi was unforgettable . It is too pity other actors and script writers didn't deliver in full! However, palaces' interiors and those ancient costumes were exceptional.

novoland is so cool!!! -it had such cool action scenes - character development isnt that good but cool action scenes!!! but it is also SUPER predictable e.g 2 key characters in a dangerous situation = they will get saved and whip ass - if it's some minor characters in a dangerous situation then someone will die

Agree so much with Novoland - great cast, good costume and set design, outdoor scenes were great, this was dripping with spent money but damn that plot or pacing it just... was constant "wink wink, prepare to be amazed soon.. soooooon.... SOOOOOON" with the characters and storyline it just made me lose interest/patience. At first I was following it live but the characters were, as you said, muddy and just... what? So what is your purpose right now exactly?? Which is such a shame because this drama had so much going for it that if it went well it would have been really good!
