I thought I was the only one who didn't enjoy Love is Sweet. Despite it's above average production, I didn't like how trope-y it was. The scriptwriters made it more like a "let's make every side character have a secret crush on the main leads" and a "but let's also make them evil and try to destroy the main leads." I thought the chemistry was better between the female lead and second male lead. No hate to the actors.

I managed to finish Love is Sweet, but I was 2x it and skipping any of the work scenes. I enjoyed the chemistry between the two main leads and that was the main reason why I kept on watching the show. But then the show gave too much emphasis on the side couple which I was not interested in, on the back stories of the second male lead and his sister which I was not interested in, and on the cases they worked at the company which I was not interested in (because they just seemed too unrealistic and too "easy"). I appreciated the portrayal of an adult relationship in a drama for once. They actually kissed and didn't do that awkward 5 second lip touching. The woman was independent and career driven (despite receiving a lot of help from the male lead and getting unrealistic "shortcuts"). They talked about problems after a fight and not just kiss and suddenly the problem is solved. They acknowledged that they had shortcomings and portrayed (though just a little) the struggles of working with someone from the same competitive industry. The relationship was not perfect (the male lead dismissing the female lead's job offer, hello HR where are you?!) but I saw growth, which is important.

@tucktam94954 жыл бұрын
Me too. I love Xing Fei because I find her acting so natural and unpretentious but she is so lackluster and missing something in this role.
@MERDADEGPLUS4 жыл бұрын
It's an overall over-acting from, probably, director's orders. But her smile is the thing that outstands the most as cringe-worthy and too forced. Her gestures too. She wasn't like that in her previous dramas.
@KH-ur9ed4 жыл бұрын
Agree. Her smiling seemed so out of place with the circumstances it made her seem incredibly vapid. And it's hard to care about a romance when you aren't sure the main FL has a brain cell worth saving.

I feel this so hard. I wanted to keep watching but the smiling was so creepy and unnatural.

We actually share the exact same opinions with all of the dramas you mentioned, but the only difference is I still watched it through the end. I just skipped the uninteresting parts so that I wouldn't feel like I wasted my day. Love this channel! Be brutal and hopefully the Chinese drama production team can hear you one day and make changes.

I have finished Love is Sweet and at Ep 28 of Begin Again and I can understand where you come from, for me maybe because I watch a lot of dramas one shot so it's like fast(?) so I feel fine with both of it. For Love is Sweet, there are times where I am like ??? since they do not explain some stuff. Both of them do have something in common though if you have watched them, I won't really spoil it but it's not always centered around romance for me so I think that's why I kept both.

I agree almost all of your opinion except for Love is Sweet. But maybe it's because I kind of biased towards Bailu 😅. And it would be great if the drama ended at episode 24 or 26. Btw, I just found your channel recently and now I literally watched almost all of your vids. You're so hilarious and your review always enjoyable 😊😊 And oh, I'll wait your review for The World of Fantasy.

Ah, I highly appreciate this kind of video too where you cover dramas you've given up on. Rarely seen than a complete drama review but even more interesting and helpful! For some reason I've dropped way more dramas this year compared to last year. It just seems like the big deluge of dramas has possibly diluted the quality or crack factor of dramas maybe? Have dropped the dramas you mentioned here for similar reasons to you.

fair xing's portrayal of a happy-go-lucky persona through the drama is a bit exhausting. you wonder when she will ever take things seriously, but she is actually very observant. she lost a good portion of the 'fake" persona after the GREAT event happened.
@itsmeiamb4 жыл бұрын
Agreed.. I think the problem was she was overacting the happy, free spirited part and , like mentioned, too fake, too bouncy, and her frozen wide smile was so odd it took me out of the drama.. But when 'the event' happened I was moved by her performance and thought it was some of the better acting she has done.

Begin Again starts getting good after episode 15 but then mellows out to OK. The first 15 episodes are definitely slower compared to the last 15 episodes. The side couples are cute too. I’m new to the channel though so I’m not sure if you’d enjoy Begin Again, I hate tropes too but this drama didn’t play into the tropes that much. I just really loved the affection the main couple had for each other. Also, whenever one of the leads made a mistake, they APOLOGIZED which is great to see in a drama lol bc sometimes they just make up off camera or smth

Thanks so much!!!!

The first eight-ish episodes of Love is Sweet was pretty cool, but then it turned into a meh romance story and the ending arc was ridiculous. What a waste of acting talent and on-screen charisma. The saving grace of the drama were the actors and the beautiful cinematography, LMAO.
@Eliizsee4 жыл бұрын
I just love the little reactions you give after certain remarks they just make your videos so much more fun to watch xD I lost it with what you did when you talked about the actor going from stony to wooden LOL. Personally, I'm a fan of Luo Yunxi and was really excited for Love is Sweet because it's been a while since he's been in a modern drama. Plus I happen to like Bai Lu too. But unfortunately for some reason, I just can't get into it even after 8-9 episodes. I don't see myself looking forward to the next episode. Not really sold on their relationship either. Even the supposedly "sizzling" moments between them just make me feel... lukewarm. Well, the drama is put on hold now. I feel like I have other better things to watch. Really a pity since I really like all 4 main characters :(
@xiong55414 жыл бұрын
"From stony to...wood" lmao appreciate the honesty. I watched 1 ep of Moon Brightens and yeah, felt similarly as you. Haven't started Ruyi Pavilion, totally understand your point. At this point I will watch just because I'm mad about Yunxi's ending and want them to be happy lol. Also, I'm curious about that 2nd couple. I'm sad to hear you dropped Begin Again (I adore Simon in his period dramas) but you make so much sense. A lot of cdramas now feel like they're just trying to his a quota of sweet scenes instead of having an organic storyline.

I love you bring this issue I remember watching some video cut of "Love and Redemption", every time the female lead crying and screaming scenes, she's screaming, but, no tears coming out from her eyes. Why she can't did that? She's an actress I love Chinese Dramas, their actors and actresses indeed very good looking, but.... the story plots and the formula are just too repetitive Repetitive story ideas: - Very dumb girl with the smartest boy (not ordinary dumb, like the dumbest in whole school or class) - Time travel girl from the future to the past (mostly will be paired with the King or Prince) - Very rich businessman/CEO (harsh, cold, handsome, smart, antisocial) with an unknown ordinary girl (cheerful, "unattractive" (even though played by very beautiful actress) and sociable) - Girl crossdressing as boy - Very famous idol or actor with an ordinary girl (from Nothing Hill, I got it. Please enough already) - Contracted marriage (modern time) and arrange married (ancient time) Repetitive scenes and plots - The idea of plotting the main lead to stay under the same roof - Kabedon -"I'll catch you if you fall" (where the female lead fall unrealistically and got caught by the male lead) - Accidental kiss - Fighting, separated, and get together again at 3/4 part of the whole series to drag the story

Originally started Love is Sweet because I was looking for a "無腦偶像劇" and because of the hype. I stayed/kept trying to get into it longer than I would otherwise have because Luo Yunxi's looks kind of grew on me... but like many others in the comments section here, I just ended up dropping it for no particular reason... Frankly the story was just so meh and I couldn't care less what happened to the characters.

But I did binge watch a super good drama for two days, Love & Redemption. It's amazing, once you start you can't stop. So check it out. I'mm also watching The Wolf. As a western, I guess I would say, viewer - I am most appreciative of your English speaking. Have to admit that I have tanked on dramas on occasion. But don’t have your expertise to explain why. Also, I am a fan of Chinese period dramas versus koreandramas. They were my first choice early on, but not as intrigued now with many parts/aspects of the stories and scripts. Kind of rambling here, but want to thank you for your up front honesty for your viewers. Have watched your reviews from time to time. Glad in a way that you didn’t include The Wolf in your “giving up” experiences. Am watching it now and do have some decided opinions. But will say that I’m happy Xiao Zhan has this reprieve. He’s totally out of character in my estimation. But so focused on this seemingly new persona. I’ve heard some uncomfortable comments about the end of the drama. But may hang in to see the outcome.
