Thank you for recommending Love between Fairy and Devil (Cang Lan Separation). I admit after the first two episodes I wasn't convinced. I don't like those sorts of character and setting even if the heroine is "spunky". I'm glad I gave it a second chance. The ML is an amazing actor. The two leads did a splendid job.

💯 agree. I quit on 4 of these. Enjoying Lighter and Princess and Unexpected Falling hoping for a better 2023. Dreams of Splendor, Side Story of Fox Volant made my 2022....and I had never watched Nirvana in Fire. Binged that 2 weeks ago because couldn't find anything good. That was soo excellent. So glad I finally got to it.☺️

Story of Fox Volant 4THEWIN!. Everyone was awsome. 200 hundred fights and still they were original and different. I also binged Nirvana in Fire recently and totally understand the hype. Love like the galaxy and Fairy and demon are great this year. But Reset... that was top 3. Maybe top 1.

Earlier on I also enjoyed Side Story of Fox Volant and A Dream of Splendor, these two are made with quality production and acting. Won't comment on the complains of being different from the source novel because I haven't read hehe

I haven’t been able to finish it because bilibili randomly took off almost all of the episodes on youtube, but I think song of life 三悦有了新工作 starring zhou yiran 周依然 is highly underrated! I got through episode 7 out of 13 before they stopped subbing it. it also features liang jingkang,her costar in run for young. a unique premise as the female lead gets a job at a funeral parlor. lots of interesting stories about her coworkers, the families they work with, etc. entire cast is really good! obviously sad, but very healing as well.

One thing I am very curious about, is of what other people think of those actresses or actors 🤔; ones who I think are not good, not good looking or not suited for certain roles. And yet some producers are trying to shove it down audiences' throats. I know Avenue X has mentioned something about that briefly awhile back. But it would be awesome if she can do a video about it. And give us answers on why a certain actress who can't act, suddenly get so many lead roles lol. Or, do a video on how Untamed fans still can't get over the Untamed!

I‘d like to add on the comments on Unexpected falling: Right now I am on ep 22 and have to agree, that the story telling is really slow - an I love it! For once it is a real life relationship development, not hastily told for the sake of drama. Plus all the characters seem to have their own hidden agenda. I’m curious to see, how this will develop.

I initially couldn't watch Lost Track of Time because the hero seemed too old, and the first episodes seemed so cliched. However, I admit to becoming riveted once the revenge part started. I think the whole rescue scene at the beginning was meant to be a parody. It was, we discover, staged. It's a meta critique on the dashing hero trope and how quickly she falls for it. She's that naive. Jing Chao is a great actor so, frankly, he stole the show whenever he appeared on screen. He really becomes this crazy stalker with a seriously messed up relationship with his dad. Gah! But, he does such a good job that on occasion I felt quite bad for him. Second, her character goes through an interesting arc. She becomes really entangled in her own revenge schemes. She is both a victim and also a perpetrator. Also, I was quite interested in the conflict between merchant control of the waterways v government control. If you build it, do you own it or can the government exercise eminent domain. Also the true male lead has to undergo some of his own 'growing up'. The father is a major jerk! So, all in all, I enjoyed it.

I would recommend to you My Calorie Boy. This one completely exceeded my expectations because even just from the title you can imagine a variety of bad cliches regarding weight and weight loss. But the show was so wonderful and funny. The only thing I didn’t like that much was the last episode but if they made more episodes I think it would’ve been done better.

I really enjoyed Lost Track of Time. I agree with you that Jing Chao's appearance in the first few episodes did not suit him at all. However, I think his character in the rest of the drama suited him very well. In fact, he was the main reason I was able to finish the drama and enjoyed it thoroughly.

You should pick up Lost Track of Time. I think she is reborn by episode 6, and it's her battle to avoid her ex husband and him playing a really good villain that gives them really amazing chemistry. I didn't care for anything else but their push and pull there. ❤️

I thought I was the only one dropping so many dramas this year. I hardly watched less than 10 dramas this years😭 I tried to watch so many other dramas but It just couldn't work for me. On other side I felt like costume drama drought like mgtv ( they released only 3-5 costume dramas this year or only 2 long dramas as far as I can remember). So many dramas on waiting list but they didn't released them like Chong zi , Hua Rong , Song of the Moon etc. But I recommend Since I met you- iqiyi drama (short & cute drama). Let's pray for good dramas next year.

Dear Avenue X I agree with you most of the times…The shows you quoted I quit too , except for ‘ Unexpected Falling ‘, I am still enduring Elvira Cai and her catatonic faces all over the show , to see the ending. And I will go further , there are others I quit in the first episode : Hutong , The long river, Our times, Wild Bloom , not my cup of tea. And some rom-rom that you lose 2 digits in your IQ by watching them.

Totally agree with all the dramas mentioned. Out of the 8 dramas, I watched 5 of them but dropped all except light chaser rescue. This also I watched on fast forward and lots and lots of skipping. The only cdrama that I've not skip or fast forward recently is just the strange tales of tang dynasty and that's it. Quite sad really..

About Winter Night .... I actually enjoyed the way they developed it and watched the whole thing, but I totally get you about the reasons why you quit. It turned out to be more like a "slice of life" drama than anything else ... most of the "drama" was not concentrated on the leads, but rather on developments in their family and friends' lives.... Romantically, I can just warn you that there were TWO entire kiss scenes in the entire thing - one in the first episode, and one in the last. Just a waste of numerous potentially romantic situations ...

Unexpected Falling is actually pretty good imo. I don't mind FL character at all (kind of annoyed with bubbly personality female leads we see constantly in chinese dramas) and also she surprised me later in the show. Actually the more episodes I watch, the more I like both FL and ML. Plot is also good with lot of surprises and it keeps guessing you who is behind everything. Chemistry between leads is also pretty good 👍

I'm slowly getting through Light Chaser Rescue. I need Luo Yunxi's studio to get their ish together because he is too great of an actor to keep staring in these terrible dramas or getting paired up with these awful FL. I'm trying to also get through his other drama, Lie to Love, and the FL has one expression like she did in Falling Into Your Smile. And the Winner is Love was also unwatchable because of FL. I'm hoping Til The End of the Moon is fantastic because he already had great chemistry with FL in Love is Sweet and I'm curious how the writers adapted the story. I know because of censorship, they won't let him be 100% evil, but I'm curious where they take it!

I like Unexpected Falling! I'm at ep 24 at the moment and it definitely gets more gripping as the drama goes on. In the opening episodes (probably the ones that AvenueX watched), the FL is so shocked by grief that she's very 'static' but then turns out to be a brave, smart and resourceful woman. It's a tightly written script and I'm enjoying the twists and turns. That it's not going the way I initially expected it to, is a major plus in my book. Youku's tagline 'widow in love with her rich lawyer' is (purposefully maybe?) rather misleading ... I won't say any more as I don't want to spoiler it for anybody.

I agree. I’m on episode 36 bc I have YOUKU VIP and it’s to me worth sticking through the slow build up. The premise is actually really misleading and it’s one of those dramas where in the end every scene happens for a reason and I appreciate that. The way that the story unfolds feels very “true crime documentary” which I like. Now, I can see if you have like 20 dramas to watch it might be too much. But I’m only ever watching 2-3 at a time.

How about Song of Life? Although topic seems quite depressing and heavy, they dealt with it in an optimistic and light hearted manner. It is a good watch, and very short as only 13 eps

The thing with lost track of time is that jing chao is actually the second main lead🫠. But he take up almost 4/5 screen time compare to the first main lead(the good guy). Didn’t expect that, i found out half way throughout the drama🫠 Leo seem to only have chemistry with bai lu for some reason😶. I skipped the whole romance things and finished the whole drama in 2 days. So you can imagine how much I skipped.

I really liked LCR a lot, but all the secondary couples, including the married ones, had better chemistry than the leads. The FL in particular came off as rather stiff and emotionless. Luckily there was enough "sugar" from the other couples, and the rest of the relationships in the drama were interesting to watch.

I started Lost Track of Time 2 weeks. I dropped it after a few episodes but I picked it back up. I am glad I decided to give it another chance. So many twists and Jing Chao’s acting is really good. I’ve never seen any of his work before but he has a fan now! He was such a bad guy that I hated his character. The female lead was good as well. The 9th prince was a bit weak but Jing Chao made up for it. So much better than Love Like the Galaxy. Other than the opening theme song LLTG was a waste of my time.

Managed to finish Winter Night probably bec I also managed to finish Autumn Ballad. Managed to finish My Deepest Dream bec I liked past novel adaptations from the same novel writer. Will try to watch more episodes of Song Of Life bec death is a favorite topic of mine. While waiting for new dramas to start, just watching Obsession and Wild Bloom. Obsession is a procedural and 1st case is rape+murder (ep 1 to ep 5), 2nd case is ep 5 to ep 7 and is a murder case, and there is also a mystery about who killed their old police boss. I usually watch procedurals so I managed to finish Obsession.

@@evdv2011 "Luo Yun Xi, born Luo Yi, also known by his English name Leo Luo, is a Chinese actor and singer. He graduated from the Shanghai Theater Academy, majoring in ballet." [quoted from My Drama List] The key aspect of his life that IMO influenced him to participate in this drama is that he is from Sichuan, a province in western China that is prone to severe, devastating and life taking earthquakes. [There was one there earlier this year, IIRC] Depending on when and where they occur such earthquakes can take hundreds of thousands of lives. I suspect Yunxi feels personally indebted to and in awe of the rescuers who participate in emergency search and rescue in these circumstances. He would have seen taking this role and an honor and a duty. I also suspect he was less motivated by the romantic aspects of the role he played and more by the actual rescue portrayals.

Some times I give up after reading the plot blurb. And some time period shows don't intrigue me at all. But most of the time I give up after 25 minutes. Thank goodness that there are so many Asian TV shows to actually watch the whole show. And if there isn't, I write my own books. Show far I've written 3 complete novels.

Did you get a chance to watch Twenty Your Life On 2? I just finished watching it and I really enjoyed it. I think it's an easy watch and depicts real life situations and emotions well so I related a lot to it. ;)

My recommendation is that you can take a second look at the last drama: My Deepest Dream. In some initial episodes, the structure of time travel is quite vague and easy to be considered as plotholes. However, later on, these holes were gradually filled in in a very fascinating way. the drama genre itself is more crime/mysterious than time travel. Spoil alert: time travel in this drama happens in several different timelines. Whenever the two protagonists travel through time, there will be different events that change the fate of others' lives. There are several criminal cases, including serial killer(s), and time travel turns into a tool used by 2 mains trying to stop those bad events. The drama has more vibe of a crime/mysterious drama than time travel and multiple interesting villains. What interests me the most is that except for the two main characters, the scriptwriter(s) intentionally creates scenes to put the supporting characters across the border of good and evil. Although with my experience of watching detective/crime dramas, the twists seem easy to figure out (the hints from the scriptwriter are quite obvious to recognize the true villain); however, since the main characters are always forced to jump back to the time right before key details about the killers are revealed, it's interesting to watch how the main couple manage in a new situation that suddenly arises without knowing the closed people are friends or enemies.

An incident happened during Xi An's lockdown late last year or earlier this year. A lady quarantined in a hotel suddenly had her period but she was unprepared. She claimed the quarantine staff refused to help her. (This was eventually refuted. It did take some time to get her the stuff.) A somewhat well-know 70-something married writer, a man, joined in saying the woman should just hold it in. Online uproar, cultural taboos/prejudices/ignorance concerning menstruation and being female in general... Maybe around summertime this year there was another uproar on Chinese social media about a lady who was caught off guard while on a long-distance train. The train didn't have feminine products for sale. Eventually, a staff member was able to find her such item. The lady asked that with a number of items available for sale on these trains, why no feminine hygiene products? Another online uproar. Plenty in the male gender accused those in the female gender of wanting things for free, demanding special treatment, and/or simply acting "precious" for not "holding it in". I can see the drama wanting to avoid the topic.

Leo Luo really has no luck picking dramas, Light Chaser Rescue was only watchable during the action scenes. Unfortunately they did not have one in each episode, so the inbetween was a bad hospital drama, boring lawyer stuff, unnecessary cruelty against the younger sister á la cheap period drama and some DingDingMingMing comic shenanigans. Most characters conflicts were kinda overblown and ridiculuos, but not in the good way. And the two leads aso had the most uninteresting storylines, soo.. dropped.

Watched unexpected falling but I can't finish it. The First 5 were not bad - you are lucky you have a more interesting life that me. We got 3 feet of snow so I was stuck. Trust me Reborn rich is so much better. Thank god it started.

I gave up 3/8 from your list. I couldn't watch `almost lover`. For rising lady I'm a little surprised that they censored part about tampons. There were quite a few lines I was surprised to hear in Chinese drama. I wouldn't say it was amazing drama but I really liked some points that were discussed by 3 ladies and mature conversations they had with their partners

@@breathe4me8 I just finished it just now. Yes, overall good drama but as usual hurried at the end. But nevertheless, a good watch despite the unhurried pace. If there is one thing to complain abt, it would be the lack of grieving the FL displays for a man she had loved & lived with for 10 odd years. He might as well been a total stranger to her. It was 38 episodes NOT 40 which is the usual number.

Same here for My Deepest dream! That is soooo weird to watch Li Yitong and Jin Han in romantic scenes.... I felt betrayed like why is Wen Xi flirting with Prince Bad Guy?? Hew, I'd like to know what the heck is going on on this drama but I need time to come to terms with them being a couple... And a very long time will be needed, at least as much time as it took me to recover from Royal Nirvana's heaviness...!

I haven't heard of most of the dramas. I have dropped a few of them though after first 1 or 2 eps. like My deepest dream, Hutong, Neuron Surgeons. Lost track of time - I dropped it after 2mins. I have watched Light chaser rescue and Winter Night. I liked Winter Night but not LCR . Even though WN is a bit boring, I can treat it is as lazy light hearted drama. About the chemistry between the leads, its a bit complicated and you need to watch it till the end. Also this might be the only drama where the makers did not try to hide the time travel story like in The day of becoming you or Mr. Bad or The heart of genius, by making it a story within a story. As for LCR, I usually like dramas of LYX or WQ but this one feels like they were forced to act together. Everything in this drama seems superficial.

Haha some of the dramas you mentioned I also dropped them, like light chaser rescue (luo yunxi is a snob and jerk here😕 couldn’t stand it). Winter night, cause I got bored on like 4th eps and I’m more curious to see how the leads relationship developed instead of time traveled. Hu tong, cause I just don’t like the settings, it’s like republican drama. But I finished my deepest dream eventho yea I agree with you li yitong and jin han looks kinda odd haha, the story is actually pretty nice. And unexpected falling, yea it’s a really slow paced. I’m still watching it but not like eagerly watching. The rest I haven’t watched 😆

I dropped Light Chaser Rescue after an episode, I didn't find the build up or design of Luo Yunxi's lawyer character realistic at all. As an attorney myself, it just doesn't make sense that someone who's supposed to be a capable litigation lawyer (he says it himself, "us attorneys either are going to court or preparing for court") somehow has so much time on his hands to do other stuff and still keep on top of his cases

Always many great insights into culture, previous pairings of actors, and what/why the drama may be missing the mark for time investment. When you got to "Unexpected Falling" I was so relieved to hear your assessment. The pace of the storyline is like watching paint dry. I found you could watch every other episode and the story's progress was negligible. You articulated aspects that I felt in watching it. When there is a primary set of strong-female actors as in "Rising Lady" the themes in scripts are frequently petty. The absence of toddler talk and face-slapping makes me feel at least somewhat obligated to support the drama.....but I just couldn't make it to the 8th episode. Substance...professional women have substance that is either inconsistent or absent in the plotlines. Thank you for the reviews...time is a precious commodity that I like to invest wisely in our drama selections. Cheers, S

unexpected falling is a slow burn drama. It is very good but it is not for everyone. I'm not skipping any episodes, it leaves me in good suspense. ML & FL have great chemistry, the sexual tension in the latest episodes are palpable. It is not a perfect drama, does have its flaws but I enjoying it so far.
