This is what happens when two great mates who are both great talents in their own rights team up. Magic happens. This was filmed on a live tv entertainment show. The guitarist is Mark Lizotte also known as Diesel. Mark is Jimmy Barnes’ brother in law. John has been married to Jill for nearly 28 years and Jimmy has been married to Jane for 40 years. Mark has been married to Jep for 32 years. So this song takes on more meaning. John’s son is in music and all of Jimmy’s kids are talented musicians and singers in their own rights. So glad you enjoyed our boys.

Farnsey started in the 1960's and transcends all genres. I once spoke the John after an LRB gig here in South Australia. They were 'on the nose' internationally and so they were playing smaller gigs. He was soaked in sweat by the end of the gig and I asked him why he gave so much he simply stated that that was the only way he could perform. It was all or nothing. He'd sang his heart out for hours and still had time to speak to us kids in the front row.

First, you must be confident to cover a Isaac Hayes song. Secondly, your videos introduced me to John Farnham. Thank you. And finally, "Freight Train Heart" by Jimmy Barnes is the only part of his career I'm conversant in, but it's one of my favorite albums of all time. Jimmy wasn't showing the best of his range here, just the power, and being a good team member on stage. Check out "Too Much Ain't Enough Love" , "Waiting For The Heartache to Come" and walk on from that album, circa 1988, and his videos of these songs. The first is with Neal Schon doing the lead guitar. Beautiful, and Jimmy combines range with that power.

Ok, ok: this fantastic live performance is just a sample of those featured every week on our classic Hey Hey it's Saturday (partial mix of SNL/Monkees/Australians Got Talent/Wheel of Fortune/ interstitial skits) show, hosted by Daryl Somers (variety host at end) & Ozzie the Ostrich (cheeky hand puppet). On tv for 30yrs since the early 70s. Actually the show had a lot of vaudeville too so perhaps that's why it was ultimately cancelled. But the career-making turns of their live performers was often the best of TV anywhere! :)
