I have a biology degree but no real knowledge on armadillos, my guess is that it has something to do with how the cells split during the earliest embryological stage, like they split in half twice identically. Why though??? No idea, usually when a lot of babies are born it's because there's a low survival rate during infancy or early life :c but it makes even less sense that it would be a superior evolution to have IDENTICAL quadruplets because the less variation in the gene pool the worse off the survival rate of the species is. The remark about the pelicorn giving hippo vibes actually makes a ton of sense. Hippopotamus is derived from two words, hippo meaning horse and potamus meaning river, or river god, so it means river horse or horse river god. This thing is also a terrifying water horse!

Giving the Texan the armadillo was the correct choice. Eta: the reason armadillos mess up cars is because when they're scared and their survival instincts are triggered, they jump straight up. So if you've gone through the trouble of missing them with your tires, they'll sometimes accidentally kill themselves by jumping into your undercarriage
