Hi everyone! Here's my first drawing on wood! I wanted to try this project for such a long time, so I'm excited to share this with you. It was really far outside my art comfort zone, and this video ended up taking a lot longer than I'd expected, but it honestly felt so rewarding to complete this. I really hope you enjoy watching this video! Be sure to let me know what you think of the drawing - and also let me know if you have any suggestions for future art projects I could try. Thank you so much for the amazing continued support! It always means a lot to me. I hope you're all having a great day. :) -Chris

The large piece is probably treated with several coats of beeswax or butcher block wax that soak deep into the wood and would be very difficult to sand away. That’s probably why the copics didn’t work well. This piece is absolutely brilliant. I absolutely love it!

For future reference, you can also get pine slabs that are cut on a diagonal, for an oblong surface. Alternatively, purchase a softwood plank (I've gone with 1 foot wide and 10 foot long pine boards) and cut to size (or get the lumber supplier to cut them for you - cuts run me $1 a cut after the 3 initial cuts being free). The only difference will be the direction of the grain/ring pattern. If you go to supplier, you can pick out boards with interesting patterns, growth rings and knots for some added visual inspiration/interest. Wonderful results on this first go round! The fox pops so well from the center of the work! It's almost sculptural. Again, well done!

I can't believe I'm just now finding your channel! I love using posca pens on whatever surfaces I can -- pine slices being a favorite. I found that using a very thin, even layer of clear acrylic gesso (or whichever color, but clear will preserve the wood color in the background) left to cure for 24 hours helps prevent the posca ink from soaking in, if that helps for future videos & projects ^^ Thank you so much for sharing this piece. It is absolutely stunning!
