Trying GOLD PAINT for the FIRST TIME

Awesome work but question, you have color changes on the crow, be it feathers or shadow or shadings but not on the leaves. Especially the solid ones. A touch of a darker and lighter versions of the golds would have put more movement to those solid ones. Nothing drastic but a touch where it looks like its bending or twisting?

This is obviously the Crow who comes to sharpen his beak on a specific mountain once every thousand years. When the mountain is completely worn down--that's one second in whatever afterlife one might accept. Because the mountain would be rich with gold, the Crow's usual environment would be infused with it. I love these paints. They are the only ones I can get to actually digitize with the shimmer effect. (I use photography and a homemade light kit, not a scanner.) Great concept for the materials! I love my FineTec paints too! I enjoy using them in galaxy paintings, or fancy dress drawings etc. They just add so much eye catching sparkle to a piece. Yours turned out great! Makes me think of a Crow that would be a familiar to a mage, or a mage that turns into a crow with a sort of 'extra' sight into a magical realm, which allows him/her to see spirits, or enemies before they attack a helpless child.

The crow is stand8ng on one of the Light Trees of Middle Earth! This tones of gold reminded me the time Thorin gave Smaug the Dragon a bath in Gold trying to kill him or also The Golden Dragon son of Beowulf that comes back to retrieve the golden horn, Aw so much possibilities!

From what I understand, the metallic paints don't really transfer to a print. Not sure how they would add gold to each piece to make it shine like that.

I like this brand of paints for gold, have my eye on them. Can you choose the colors? I think I'd want a gold, silver, copper, and need to have a shimmery white for snow or those diamonds on water, maybe a sort of transparent shine just to give a sheen to things that need it, hummingbirds, eyes of flies, dragonflies. Can you mix colors? Like if you wanted a blue-gold can you mix some blue with the gold you used to get a bluish gold or does it make mud? Hmmm. Now I'm wondering if you'll be using these for Inktober

I love this piece! And I love working with metalics myself. I have a watercolour set with 8 different metalics gold silver but also pearl and alabaster. I love that sparkle an it makes the pieces even more special in my opinion. Great job!

Hi spidy art. Yes I do live metalics and everything else that's shiny and sparkly. As fare as posting on KZbin goes I don't really have the knowledge or the means, at least not at the moment. Also I'm not very good with commitment but I do love seeing what other artist's get up to and draw inspiration from them.

This looks more like a raven to me (beak, tail, beard) however, absolutely awesome piece, the gold looks fantastic. They make other paints that just give a bit of iridescent sparkle that would have been awesome on the feathers for that blue/green sheen they have. Kuretake Opal paints, affordable, check them out!

Technically ravens and crows are of the same family group which is the corvus which includes ravens, crows and rooks.

That paint is great! You can also use it as “ink” with calligraphy nibs and get some extremely fine lines that are still opaque, even on black paper. It’s really quite striking. I wonder what one of your drawings would look like with super thin metallic highlights all over it… 🙂

I was thinking you were the closest KZbinr I've been able to find that shares a similar multi media art mash up to my own and then you go confirm that buying get Fine Tec watercolours and saying Arabic Gold is your fav. Haha. I love the detail in the feathers!

would love to see you try this with cutout masking tape. Gold paint looks awesome, I think it could really help getting some sharp edges. Or using it for more fine linework using a tiny brush or toothpick

would you consider doing a piece of art based on Kintsugi (the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold - built on the idea that in embracing flaws and imperfections) that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the palette of gold paints (and sterling silver).

I see I'm late, but let me tell you how much I LOVED this project. It turned out amazing. I wish you did one extra thing and that is add a thin rim around the moon. Maybe Moon Gold or silver. Or, I think I'd mix the two; maybe 3 parts moon gold and one part silver. What do you think, Chris?
