When I've done polymer clay sculptures, I've gotten in the habit of painting my sculpture black all over first. I learned this trick from a friend who paints board game models. It makes it so that any crack or crevice you can't paint the "correct" colour, just look like a dark shadow, which is exactly what a deep crease in a model would be.

That’s actually so neat because with digital art when you make a coloring layer most artists color the entire drawing in with a dark blue or dark color.

a tip for any newbie sculptors or painters: Watering down the paint will allowing it to flow better into cracks and give depth. But dipping your brush in the paint, wiping away most of it and dragging it across the piece will highlight the raised bits. Its called wet brushing and dry brushing. In other words, this was very good for the first time!! don't be afraid to try new things :)

@@hannaholcomb1902 HIPPA and privacy have nothing to do with it. Dropping alarming comments like, "...medicine that keeps me alive..." is an open invitation to ask about her health. It was literally made to make us wonder and worry; there's simply no other reason to say it. If you don't want to bring attention to your health, then don't mention it. Certainly don't make it sound like you have some kind of terminal disease and then just move on like you didn't say anything. If you want people to give you attention, comments like that one made to millions of subscribers with no explanation are great way to get it. So don't chide people for taking the bait, Hanna. It's simply mission accomplished.

I've followed Ace of Clay for a REALLY long time (like, close to his first video?) and I was also so so inspired by him to sculpt !! I've had SO much more fun sculpting since finding him, and if anybody hasn't watched him I highly reccommend his channel !! His work is AMAZING and his techniques are incredibly helpful !!

Hey Rin! I don't usually make comments on posts BUT, i started my drawing journey this year, i set a goal to draw every day for one whole year! So far i've been successful and haven't missed a day! Your videos have been a really big help to me, keeping me motivated to draw and improve. I don't know if you'll read this, but thank you for your art videos. I watch them a lot with my four year old and they always blow her mind. This one actually inspired her to try and sculpt her own lion from playdough (which had to be blue, of course). I don't think she ever realized that she could make a sculpture. So thank you for inspiring my little artist.

Ohh, wow. You know, even though (and I cannot stretch this enough) I adore your 2D-art and the way you create things in such a volume, this is something I have secretly been wishing for, for a long time, without realizing it! And I feel like it might be something like that with you as well! I find that the process and the result you did here (with your first attempt, seriously!!?) is something truly fabulous and unique in a whole another level. It obviously might be also due to the fact that I have seen so much of your work for so long period of time, and that you have showed us your strenghts and style in its most comfortable and guilty pleasure forms, and even though I don't mean to say anything you've done is repetitive or anything of that kind, I felt that this was something so fresh, energetic and inspiring and new that it really felt very different all the way in here, behind the screen on another side of the planet! A completely new way to do things is something that pushes and shakes things up with everyone, but with this I honestly had a feeling like you've found something even deeper. It might not be a whole new chapter, but I want you to know that you do have amazing grasp at sculpting, and also I found that the things you know in the more familiar mediums were an amazing use for the base and understanding of this! It kind of made sense, in a way, and I am saying this as a very traditional painterly artist. But yeah, this was sssuuuper interesting and lovely to watch! I also really love the narration and cutting of this video, it was thrilling to wait for the reveal of what's the extraordinary thing with this lion! Keep up doing what you do, this channel is, if possible, getting all the more lovely!

For your first time sculpting, this is amazing! I've been sculpting for about two years now and when I first started my creations looked nothing like yours(in a good way). Your attention to detail is great and I think if you kept at it, you would become a great sculpted as well as drawer. Keep up the good work.(btw if you want more detail in the mane, try using an old toothbrush and to clean finger prints try using rubbing alcohol)
