Good point Draymond but what Ant was trying to say was If you can play, you should play. It wasnt about if you are injured or not. Maintenance days aren't injury related. There are a lot of "maintenance days" by Vets who "can" play, but would rather "rest."
@patrickyarnold5815
@patrickyarnold5815 Жыл бұрын
Dray's point is that your 10x more likely to get injured playing a game in Denver (altitude) if it's your 3rd game in 4 nights then a normal game when you were off the day before. Now if you play that game in Denver and get injured, every other fan who saved up to watch you play won't because you're out injured. Careers are being extended because of taking calculated rest days, despite the athletes running faster, longer and jumping higher than ever before.
@noyou113

@@patrickyarnold5815 yes, but at the same time if youre younger than 27 and have little to no injury history you should be fine. The older vets like Steph, lebron, kawhi, we understand. The young guns though..

Lebron is the LAST player that should be having rest games. People fly thousands of miles just to see HIM. It’s his job to keep entertain! Now if they want to incorporate rest games. Mark off those games before the season starts so parents don’t waste money on tickets. Simple fix
@aryan-mj4yp
@aryan-mj4yp Жыл бұрын
@@jasonhoppe781i don't think mark off is a realistic idea. The league doesn't acknowledge "rest" Games. The teams makes it out as some minor injury to the players. They obviously won't be able to do that before the season starts. The scheduling by the league has to be made more team friendly. Remove back to backs and give sufficient rest occasionally so that superstars dont have to load manage. There'll still be some players like kawhi who'll sit out. But i do think most other superstars would play as many games as they possibly could

Things can be a lot worse that a father taking his kid to a game. I live outside the USA and for me going to a game would take YEARS saving some money, so I can attend a live game and there are a lot of people outside the USA going there to attend a game. I think it's totally unacceptable for a professional athlete to skip games just to rest. First of everything this is a business and a business should care about their clients. But what is wrong is that they care more about the competition than about the clients.

Both of them are great players and have fair points, but I think Ant specified he meant if there was no real risk of injury. Not to mention all this science and data has players sitting out and taking nights off and injuries are arguably worse than they've ever been. Some science is starting to emerge that points to constant periods of prolonged rest being a factor in INCREASING the risk of injury. Karl Malone, the freak that he is, rode a stationary bike during half-time for most of his career to keep his muscles fresh and pliable, and he and John Stockton barely ever missed a game. ALSO, Ant is damn right, when you got people saving up for months to take their kids to ONE game, it's a pretty fair chance these days their fav isn't playing, and that's rough.

Ultimately the end goal is you want to see players participate as much as they can. So there is a balance of you want them to sit out if they are at a high risk of injury from damage from previous games and participate if you are fully healthy

You play unless you’re injured. Unless the injury risk is life, limb (as in lose complete function), or eyesight, you play. I think the ability to provide for yourself in the case of an injury should also play a role. The guy at the end of the bench should be more concerned with injuries than the guy who’s game check may be more than number 15 on the bench.

Ant is spot on. Tired of watching these star players sit out cause of “load management”.. you’re making millions to play a game, so if you’re healthy you need to be playing. It’s disrespectful to the fans to sit out 10-15 games a year when you’re perfectly healthy.

Every time we talk about load management, two players, Grant Hill and Penny Hardaway, always come to mind. Both players in today's game would have been first-ballot HOF if allowed to sit out with serious injuries. But because they rushed back from injuries, they ended making ruining their careers because they rushed back to quickly when it wasn't properly healed. I see a player like Kawhi Leonard, who is fully taking advantage of load management and prolonging his career.

My thing is Dray, the science can be a bit overstated. Because how is science and medicine and training better, but injuries are up and less players are playing 82 games? Maybe guys slept a little wrong and just report it as a neck contusion in order to not play against the Rockets or something. As an older guy, i get you just want to get to playoffs, but damn, you cannot check in for a minute or two for that fan in the upper deck who just wants to see you on the court?

I live in Atlanta. Maybe 2 seasons ago, I bought tickets to watch golden state come through. I bought the tickets in the early season. The game was scheduled for like April. Time comes to go to the game, literally an hour before tip off, I get the notification that steph, klay, and draymond we’re sitting out. None of y’all were “injured”. It was just a late season game that y’all didn’t care about lol I understand draymond point. And I honestly wasn’t that mad, but the little kids that came into the arena with steph jerseys were damn near in tears.

I'm not a GSW fan, but I might never be able to see another game live ever, so I took the opportunity. Steph was hurt and it was beginning of the season, imagine my disappointment if Klay and KD decided to sit these games out because it wasn't worth it. If you can play, you play, you never know who might be there for the only time in their lives to see you.

All sports are endurance sports. Pushing through the pain, not injury is part of sport. The science is no one should participate in sports because injuries are inevitable. That said, taking the risk and being able to overcome it is what makes professional athletes special. The fact that the guys with guaranteed money can be healthy scratches but not because of poor performance is the problem.

I agree with Anthony Edwards, today’s ticket prices are so expensive and when add parking & food it’s really pricey for many fans…when they come too see their favorite players play and to find out when they get there they’re not playing for rest it could extremely discouraging…maybe the league should give the teams more time between games for them to rest & recover or shorten the amount of games…I just think it’s unfair to the fans because they are risking paying to the players and they’re sitting due rest or load management…
@teflonjon3341

Injuries are a part of the game, you risk an injury every time you step on the court. That shouldn’t deter teams from playing their stars, especially when fans pay a lot of money to come watch these guys play. At the very least they should give fans a greater window to cancel their tickets rather than announcing these guys ain’t playing at game time or a couple hours prior. Idc what the reasoning is, the NBA is only what it is due to fans watching in attendance and at home, if you compromise the product on the court, people will start to watch less and less. Period. Sitting out for “load management” is a slap in the face to the fans, and yea the utmost respect should be shown to those watching since we’re the reason you make what you do.

Greatness is built on risk taking. It can also be pointed out those who came back too soon or played to hard. Derrick Rose, RG III. Grant Hill and guys like Penny Hardaway never got chances to be great due to constant injury. However MJ played through most illnesses and small injuries. He is the goat for many reasons, mental toughness being one of them.

Very well put Draymond. This is why he is great, cause this is a more nuanced, reasonable, and honest take on this topic than what’s on ESPN nearly every time this topic is brought up. ESPN just likes to position people to argue so they have guys that are 100% for sitting out in every argument and guys that are 100% against it no matter what and they all end up just sounding dumb and it’s not even believable that these are their actual opinions: they are just arguing for the camera. Thanks for this Draymond
