I’m a fat, old, battle-axe nurse 😂 and spent many years working with dialysis patients. Almost all had diabetes and terrible vascular disease. I guess I’m headed in that direction my own damn self. EXCEPT I am actually learning a thing or two from your videos and I really appreciate your scientific explanations. I’ve stopped eating sugar and processed foods. My blood sugar is coming down, so is my weight and blood pressure. This is like turning around the Titanic but I’m convinced and I would like you to know that you’re doing a lot of good work here. Thank you.! ❤

One of the best videos ever. I do LCHF since 3 years and I have never felt better. A big luck for for me is that I got hooked on running more than 50 years ago. This mean that I have been eating carbs most of my life and consequently, probably, still "suffer" from that. Better late than never.... Thank you, Dr. Cywes, for these excellent videos!

I'm a healthy Keto'ish Mediterranean diet lifestyle, non-smoker who periodically uses nicotine lozenges 2mg-6mg per day 3-4 days per week for the dopamine, cognition, and focus boost. I do sometimes notice that with nicotine, my BP will temporarily elevate to 129/79. Should I be concerned with this? Am I doing damage?

As he said, nicotine damages the endothelial cells. I'm in the same boat with a vaping addiction
@GlennBartels
@GlennBartels 7 ай бұрын
@@Dirk_van_Tonder Comparison Study: Nicotine vs. Smoking: Another study published in the American Journal of Physiology - Heart and Circulatory Physiology in 2001 titled "Nicotine Inhibits the Release of Endothelial Cell-Derived Relaxing Factor" compared the effects of nicotine alone versus cigarette smoking on endothelial cell function. The study found that while both nicotine and smoking impaired endothelial function, smoking had a more pronounced effect compared to nicotine alone. However, nicotine still significantly contributed to endothelial dysfunction, indicating its negative impact on vascular health. While there is research that suggests potential therapeutic effects of nicotine in certain contexts, it's important to note that the majority of studies emphasize the negative health impacts associated with nicotine use, particularly through smoking. However, here are a couple of studies that have explored potential positive effects of nicotine: Cognitive Enhancement: Several studies have suggested that nicotine may have cognitive-enhancing effects, particularly in areas such as attention, memory, and learning. For example, a study published in Psychopharmacology in 2013 titled "Nicotine as a cognitive enhancer" reviewed existing literature on nicotine's effects on cognitive function and concluded that nicotine administration can improve attention, working memory, and cognitive control in certain populations, such as individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or schizophrenia. Neuroprotective Effects: Some research has suggested that nicotine may have neuroprotective properties, potentially offering benefits in neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. A study published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease in 2012 titled "Nicotine as a Potential Neuroprotective Agent for Parkinson's and Alzheimer's Disease" reviewed evidence supporting nicotine's neuroprotective effects in preclinical and clinical studies. The study suggested that nicotine may modulate neurotransmitter systems and promote neuroprotection against oxidative stress and inflammation, although further research is needed to fully understand its mechanisms and potential therapeutic applications.

Thank you for this great informative video, I was going to talk to my cardiologist about my baby aspirin regimen but I know that he would never be able to explain it as thoroughly as you just did due to the time constraints during a visit. I first heard about the damage that sugar does to the heart from a you tube video about 4 years ago from a cardiac surgeon in Arizona with over 5000 bypass surgeries to his credit. He put together the correlation between sugar and the inflammation inside the arteries that he was replacing. He unfortunately was told by his hospital to shut up about it and keep doing the surgeries that kept the hospital rolling in money. He retired and opened his clinic focusing on metabolic healing and between his old hospital and the Arizona medical board he lost his license to practice. His video that I watched he said he wears the revoking of his license with pride because he knows he is right.

Doc, my dad died suddenly of an MI at the age of 42. We were on vacation in South Florida at my grandparent’s. He went into the hospital on Christmas Eve, and died on New Year’s morning, leaving nine kids, the baby was 2 months old. We are all at risk of CAD. My calcium score is 1200, but I exercise hard 5+ days a week, eat very little sugar, and zero processed foods. Triglycerides are in the low 50’s, HDL generally 80’s or higher, Hba1C is 5.5 (my new cardiologist wants me to get it below 5.0…he’s great!). Anyway, despite the fact that I’m not crazy about the “M” on your shirt (I played rugby for Ohio State 😅), your lecture is the very best explanation of the pathophisiology of CVD I’ve ever heard (and I’ve been studying for many years!). THANK YOU, AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

I asked the cardiologist about absolute risk vs relative risk wrt to taking a statin. She blew her top. Said most of her patients took double the dose and has no complaints. WHat does another patient have to do with my situation? Perhaps those taking 80 mg have no brain function left to even ask questions.

😂 You must be one of those “statin deniers”!! Just like me! I took statins 20 years ago and ended up unable to walk. I recovered, fortunately. Then they persuaded me to take a small dose a few months ago following heart surgery. Within 4 days the leg muscle pains started again. I refuse point blank to take those beasts again. I just can’t understand why these docs are so into statins……. £££ $$$ perhaps?

@@1Hope4All there's a lot of discrepancy as to what a proper human diet is. My head spins reading it all, so I go with my gut instinct as well as a plethora of studies , which say we do not need to, and should not be eating meat. Beyond that it's all very confusing.

Well, except most doctors say that eating only meat is the best anti-inflammatory diet. Also, best treatment for IBS. Also, how do you explain Hong Kong being where the people who (on average) live the longest? We’ve eaten meat and meat fat for millions of years. We can’t survive without supplements if eating a vegan diet. Seems like eating meat is healthy for us.

I had a triple bipass 4 months ago . Cardiologist had put me on RESuVASTIN 40 MG. without checking my cholesterol. They said I have to wait 3 months to do the test. So why give me Stains? After taking it for few months I developed muscle pain . I went tobsee my doctor and she said we have to wait 3 months to see results. We'll, 3 months went by I asked her to do the test. Come back good .vMy cholesterol below 2 . She also scared me if I don't take them I can have a stroke or another heart attack. So I continue rosuvastin Until I could not get of the chair. I couldn't walk, sleep .Constant pain . I called my doctor She wasn't in the office sobI talk to the nurse practioner . Went and got my blood drawn for muscle damage. This Friday I will see the test results. I stopped RESuVASTIN. There is no way I can live like that . Unfortunately here in Canada you don't have that many choices in choosing the doctor. Health care is free to the extent but if you are really sick good luck . Better figure it out on your own.

Would eat a cupcake if they cost $1000? Tell a trusted friend that you know will hold you to it that if you ever eat another cupcake again you owe them $1000. Text it to them so you have a record. Add whatever else you don't want to consume to the list. If you don't have a friend like that who won't let you off the hook if you mess up then that may be part of the reason your struggling! I did that 2 years ago with alcohol as an out of control functioning alcohol. Haven't had a DROP since and don't miss it all. Would rather drink radiator fluid. You have to let it go forever hook line and sinker to the bottom of the sea! I also read the book "This Naked Mind" by Annie grace. That's what allowed me to let go enough subconsciously to make the commitment with confidence. A week after I finished the book I cried tears of Joy because I knew I was free from the beast that locked my mind up for decades. Now I dance on it's grave 🎉. Also, this community is awesome! Love you Dr. Cywes and all your beautiful followers!!

After a quadruple bypass surgery, I took it for granted that I should take a statin. Well after a lot of research I'm off the statin (to the dismay of sll my doctors) and started eating a keto/carnivore diet. I've lost 30-35 pounds and am in the best shape since I wrestled in college. At 59 I hike and high point the different mountain ranges in Montana where i live. I can do things most people in their 30s cant. ALL sugar and naked carbs have been cut from my diet, without compromise. I finally asked the question, if statins are so effective, why is heart disease still the number one killer? I only wished I had the info 30 years ago and I guarantee I wouldn't be in the boat I'm in now. Good luck everyone.

Dear Doc, I stumbled on your KZbin channel by chance. My interests are healthy living, nutrition, how to make improvements, and repair the damage already done. I understand your message, it makes sense. By profession, I am an RN and MT. I have a decent grasp of biochemistry, physiology, etc. Yet, I find myself confused, walking question mark. Issue that is making me question everything I know are positions and messages totally opposite to your message. Dr Ornish, Dr Esselstyn, Dr Campbell, and many other complete plant based diet proponents. Are they all wrong? Could it be that my grandmother, who did not have an hour of formal education, was right all along. "Do not eat too much bread and many sweets", this was advised by my grandmother. How can all these Dr's be so wrong regarding the science of nutrition and what is causing us to become a nation of sick, overweight, and disease ridden simpletons.

the tiny semantic issue of exogenous vs not. the body makes various things it needs but doesn’t need external sugars. that is where all of regular medical staff are dead wrong. very interesting to see a healthy liver. Lustig nailed the fatty liver (NAFLD) in infants awhile back now ... that have never had a drop of booze. the common thread I see in obesity patients is they avoid fat. consume carbs in beer. and think honey is super healthy. all broken old flawed ideas. besides the fructose being the worst, it is anti-microbial on the inside of your body. lookup medical honey .. and rethink your choices of sweet. doesn’t take them long to see / feel / hear others remarking about how much better they look .. ditching carbs and starches. the body is self healing. amazing results when you remove the wrong items from your fork. I proved that with my own parents. back in the summer of 1990. reversed blocked arteries with a clean ketovore diet. their healthy whole grain kick back in the 60s, 70s, 80s .. ruined them. Ancel Keys | Jan. 13, 1961 (TIME cover story) [62.37.y] continues to ruin the planet. most refuse to budge. fresh air. sun. clean foods restored their health in under six weeks. missing hip cartilage grew back in my mother’s hips. she never needed to have the scheduled dual hip replacement surgery. and my dad. never had the quadruple bi-pass mandated by them. or. six months to live diagnosis he was scared with. but as a preventative dental surgeon, he knew the real stats on surgery outcomes. I’m a 4th gen version that went into technical problem solving instead of being frustrated by mainstream medics. so .. continue to be 33 years ahead of the curve. they lived another 28 years. medics refused to believe their old x-rays were legit. too outside the box. but. the results. plain as day.

So my Dr, is trying to put me back on a statin, my ldl is 190 and total is 266. I was on rivastatin before and man was it messing me up, memory, muscle weakness, and up and down moods. Since stopping I feel so much better. I pretty much stopped about 80%sugar intake, started doing ice bath which is crazy how good I feel after. Just started cyanne pepper, good oils and a few other herbs. See if it brings it down some. But I'll never go back on statin again.

On February 14, 2023 I went "cold-turkey" and eliminated carbs (simple and complex sugars) and processed foods without any adverse reactions. I was (am) desperate for change. Cravings disappeared ASAP! I've been eating only fat and protein--mainly rib-eyes, eggs, butter, 1-2Tbls heavy cream and a little cheese now and then. Not seeing much weight loss :( much to my dismay....... I had bloodwork done 1 week prior to this lifestyle/dietary change and was told, "You're not insulin resistant." I don't believe it. Between being 50-70 lbs overweight, unbalanced hormones, unbalanced thyroid numbers, lipid issues and early concerns for heart disease/stroke, and vitamin D levels of 30 (and it's been lower) but it was always dismissed and attributed to an MS diagnosis from 2008. I'm hugely concerned about a fat-pad on the back of my upper neck as it may be an important signal of something greater that might be going on. Had Bell's palsy in 2021 that I believe was because of inflammation & stress--not MS related, and my CRP was 4 when checked in February. I use a Keto-Mojo to test blood and ketones (sometimes up to 12x day!!!) Trying to figure this out by myself because I really believe high insulin and high carb/low fat is to blame. I've reached out to many for help but am discovering most providers are brainwashed and aren't able to help. I am a FAN of bloodwork and testing (but of course you need a provider to write orders, at least here in Alaska)--I would love confirmation that my nutrition and behavior changes are heading in the right direction to minimize health risks that are starting to be exposed. Truthfully, I'm not certain if the changes ARE making the health improvements I'm looking for but I know it's better then where I started. I'm 56 and am watching family members be lied to and get sicker and sicker. Most think I'm crazy and, of course, after over 3 months without weight-loss or visible health improvements I'm NOT winning them over. I see what statins, BP meds, as well as the V's are doing to them. From cognitive decline to major joint issues to now retinal vascular occlusion, respiratory issues, thyroid removal, and obesity, etc..... I left you a text today requesting your help and asking how to get on your schedule. I'm grateful for your videos and so So SO appreciative both your MD & PHD eyes to view the data with honesty and integrity to see through the statistical manipulations and the COURAGE to speak the truth and your willingness to reach out and share with me and so many others. XOXO Terri E

Have you included intermittent fasting yet? Asides that, please remember that your body may need to heal a fair bit first before it starts to shed weight, i.e., fat. From my experience, I have learnt that one can overeat fats and proteins too, culminating in little or no progress. I know this having hit a plateau and even started to gain weight. My blood glucose refuses to go below 6.0 or 108mg/dl unless I fast for 72hrs! It's crazy because I have been on this journey since 2018. At this point, I believe it's hightime I took exercise seriously. I see this journey as a marathon. Progress may be slow, but we are certainly better from where we started. All the best in your journey to optimal health.

@@naijaman6639 Thank you for your post, and yes, I forgot to mention that I had included fasting. Mainly OMAD, sometimes 2 meals but, when I did so, it was usually within a short window. Moved my window earlier in the day with my meal ending between 2-3 with some improvement however it wasn't always sustainable. I too saw an improvement after a 73 hr fast and when I added a steam bath, as well as some resistance training but that hasn't been routine. Played with higher protein, and tried higher fat--used the cronometer which allowed me 43g protein and 60-100g fat depending on activity level--found I wanted more to eat (800-1000 cals-ish). I'm frustrated and discouraged and taking a break from documenting EVERY little thing--ie: sleep, wake, blood G/K, food (macros), drink, activity, bathroom habits, BP, etc.....day-in and day-out. Ready to quit but not sure what that really means--haha because I'm totally sold on the elimination of sugar (0-5 carbs approx), removal of processed foods (sometimes I've had sausage) and seed oils--So, I'm not sure what I'd be "quitting" rather decided to take a break from the madness of all my tedious tracking. It's hard to keep tracking and NOT seeing improvements and NOT know if my approach is even the right one for me. So, I'm continuing to eat animal foods and saturated fat but would love to know if long fasts or calorie restriction or???? would be best for my unbalance hormones and possibly broken leptin signals. I have a history of extreme calorie restriction--eat less, exercise more in order to loose weight.....Isn't that what we were taught? Oh, and low fat too. ;). I commend you for your resiliency to "stick-with-it" since 2018!!! I too hope to say I've been at it for 5+ years, as well. I want to gain confidence that what I'm doing IS healthy and right for me, then, I think I can wrap my brain around the idea that it may just take some time. My fear is that I'm missing something and fooling myself, only to learn I've selected the wrong path and lost precious time and have to start over. Hoping Dr. Cywes can help test and guide me in the best direction to improve my health. All the best to you too Naija Man and thank you for your encouraging words. 💗

Oh Terri. In my opinion, you are trying too hard. Please manage your expectations. Going off carbs is not a diet. It is a lifestyle. From this perspective it doesn’t matter how long it takes, just keep learning for Dr Cywes and keep fine tuning your approach Each time you are frustrated, remind your self, that it is a lifestyle and you will get there eventually. My wild guess is that you have a lot of energy stored up, so even the little you eat, you top up what you have rather than lose it. Perhaps for 1 whole weeek try eat half your current portions, but only once a day. In the evening take some tea and go to bed. I guarantee you, you will see changes. I have been on zero carbs for 1 week and i can feel the miracles happening. Stubborn belly fat is already reducing. In 3 months, 12months… im sure i will get much slimmer.

Have you tried strictly carnivore? The steps you have already taken are commendable. Give your body time to heal. Also remember the scale can confuse us as we can be losing unhealthy fat stores while gaining lean muscle mass. Focus on how your clothes fit and see how that goes. Best wishes 😊

I can't get my doctor to order fasting insulin and C-peptide, but he insists I take statins... mmmm no, no, hell no! Hang in there!

First you are great. I have a question regarding statins and other cholesterol, lipid lowering drugs. If the lipids, LDL, are but the spackling on the hole, what happens if you get a hole, you have the inflammation, but you do not have the spackling, (the lipids to repair the hole). I suspect that the body will still find a way to get the spackling in place regardless of what your LDL score shows but would generate the lipid through another pathway, perhaps causing a different issue.

You need to define what "dose depend" means. 1. Do we avoid spikes and want our BG to be flat? 2. Is a keto guy with BG of 100 and A1c of 5.5 at risk? Is A1c context dependent? 3. Is fiber in vegan protective as it slows down absorption and hence the dose? 4. Do we avoid fruit or they fall under 3? 5. What about stress / cortisol? I know where you stand in terms of diatery preferences, but it is too important and all diets need to be addressed
@Dirk_van_Tonder
@Dirk_van_Tonder 7 ай бұрын
1. Yes you want to avoid spikes, you do this by not eating sugar or carbs 2. If you are doing keto/carnivore correctly, your BG should naturally be below 100 unless you are sneaking sugar in somewhere 3. The best RCT that exists on fiber shows it to be contraindicated for humans and actually causes bowel problems as opposed to fixing them. Dr. Paul Mason talks about this 4. Fruit is pure sugar. avoid at all costs 5. Minimize your stress at all costs

Anything that is carbohydrate is ultimately converted into sugar in the body. the terms are pretty much interchangeable. That includes most vegetables, fruits, anything made from any type of grain - wheat, barley, rye, corn, rice, soy and all the offshoots like couscous, quinoa - all of it is bad and of course any type of processed product - tomato sauce, basting sauces, asian sauces and your obvious junk food like crisps, biscuits, sweets, chocolate, cakes etc. Example, most people think a banana is healthy. well your average banana has 14 grams of sugar.

Whenever you read an article about any kind of health related claim, always look up the study the article is based on. Media headlines are almost always NOT based on what the study actually found. They always twist the findings into an attention grabbing headline, caring only about clicks and eyeballs. This is why it seems like science can't make up it's mind. Also, the studies that the article is based on are usually garbage epidemiological studies that show weak association not causation. Since learning this from Zoe Harcombe I have never looked at those kinds of articles the same way and can take them apart in a few short minutes.

Your data & charts showing more younger people with high cholesterol have suffered and died than old people with high cholesterol, is it true because that the immune system undergoes changes as a person ages, and these changes can impact immune cell function, including macrophages. Macrophages are specialized immune cells that play a crucial role in the immune response, including the clearance of oxidized LDL (low-density lipoprotein) particles in the blood vessels. Hence less incidence of FOAMS produced by over fed and died macrophages As people age, various aspects of the immune system can undergo alterations, commonly referred to as immunosenescence. These changes can include a decline in the number and function of certain immune cells, including macrophages. As a result, the ability of macrophages to efficiently clear oxidized LDL particles and prevent the formation of foam cells (which are a hallmark of atherosclerosis) may be compromised. Additionally, aging can be associated with chronic low-grade inflammation, known as inflammaging, which can further affect immune cell function. Inflammaging can contribute to the development and progression of various age-related diseases, including cardiovascular diseases like atherosclerosis. It's important to note that while aging can impact immune cell function, it is not the sole factor contributing to the formation of foam cells and atherosclerosis. Other risk factors, such as high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, smoking, and an unhealthy diet, also play significant roles in the development of cardiovascular diseases. To mitigate the age-related changes in immune function and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, it is important to adopt a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, a balanced diet, and avoiding smoking. Additionally, managing other risk factors such as high cholesterol and blood pressure through appropriate medical interventions can also be beneficial. Regular check-ups with a healthcare professional can help monitor and manage these factors effectively

I've been losing weight and gave up all processed sugar and refined flour. I'm down 17#s but my sugar has gone up. 90 - 100- 107. I'm confused about that one. A1c 5.4, Tri 113, HDL 66, LDL 104 (chol has been coming down from a1c 5.4, tri 125, HDL 66, LDL 130). Took a glucose Tolerance Test 2 Hour 107 initial, 146 1 hr after drinking sugar, 143 2 hr.

Was on high sugar carb fruit diet with low red meat for decades Insulin resistant fast glucose upper 90's 10 months ago started IF 16/8 to 19/5 and still on same diet with relatively lower table sugar intake After 7 mo. (3 mo. ago) started low carb diet (50-70g /day) w/ IF. 2 months after that I did my first triglyceride blood test ever Fasting glucose 84 Total chol 202 HDL 55 LDL 16O TG 302 Freaked out and stopped eating red meat and meat fat After 10 days repeat bloodwork but I was 45 hours into a 48 hour fast (coincidence) Fasting glucose 64 Total chol 184 HDL 63 LDL 102 TG 95 1. Is the low carb diet for 2 mo. Caused TG 302 or it must hv been 400 or 500 and low carb/keto brought down to 302? 2. What brought TG down from 302 TO 96 in 10 days is it from obstaining from red/fat meat or caused by prolonged fast towards the end of which they draw the blood sample. Is 302 to 95 good sign or just the product of not eating for 45 hours. Please provide your opinion thoughts about this.

Dr. Cywes, I hope this reaches you. I have Primary biliary colangitis diagnosed 5 years ago. My liver went from no cirrhosis to now having a little. Do you think there is any way I can heal the cirrhosis? I have been keto since my diagnosis. I am now leaning heavy on the carnivore side. Please let me know what your thoughts are on doing what is best for my condition. Thank you for all you do and God bless

Can KZbin creators, especially doctors, please, for the love of (insert name of favorite deity here) differentiate between highly processed "carbohydrates" (garbage) vs whole plant based carbohydrates?! It's as ridiculous as people equating protein just with meat. Sigh. Great video!
