I live about 20 minutes away from the Abbott Diabetes Care Center, and I’ve read multiple articles from the past couple years that they’re working on a Continuous Glucose Monitor + Constant Ketone Monitor combined in one sensor! Imagine how useful that would be to people doing keto/carnivore! The best part is that it will OTC so you won’t need a prescription!

I have a Dexcom7 and have no idea how I functioned without it. One example was when I ate a doughnut I went up to 268 on my CGM....Another time I had some french fries (both were very bad big-time no-nos) My CGM bolted to 474... I was shocked that a doughnut was so much less than potatoes... When I eat meats with fats, I see virtually no change in my readings. Dr. Cywes is 100% on point.

@@davelelonekYou're absoluely right. I got a Stelo yesterday and dismantled the applicator after I put it on. It's a marvel of engineering. I even salvaged a tiny neodymium magnet and a couple of springs from it. I theorize the magnet is to use the Hall Effect to turn the sensor on when the applicator is used. I plan on taking apart the sensor after its 15 days are up just to see how that's made and see if my theory is correct.

I'm a T2D on metformin. I signed up for Stelo about a week ago. You get 2 sensors for $99 or if you subscribe, it's $89 a month. Each sensor last 15 days. You can cancel anytime. Once I ordered it, I had it in just a couple days. It's pretty easy to set up. The instructions walk you right through it. I've just been using it for a couple days and found it extremely useful. It beats finger sticks. The downside is it is not covered by Medicare or my secondary insurance, it may be covered in the future. The reason why Medicare is not covering it is because I was not insulin dependent. If it can help you manage your blood glucose and keeps you off insulin, it would be cost effective for Medicare to cover it. It's cheaper than insulin and GLP-1s.

@@johnf8609 Mine was still reading 15 to 20 points high after two days. On another channel person that wears a Dexcom G7 said that they get the best readings by placing it on the thigh. I ordered mine on the 27th also. It arrived on the 28th via Amazon delivery. I am pre-diabetic and have been on the Carnivore diet since July 1, 2024. The CGM is essential, in my opinion, for following the effects of meals you eat and for tracking what intense exercise does to your blood sugar. I did read that the Stelo CGM might give a slightly different reading vs. "the finger stick method" due to analysis of blood sugar in the blood directly vs. interstitial tissue collection. I will keep an eye on this, but when I first woke up this morning the Stelo CGM read 124 and my finger stick reading was 104. To me, that's quite a difference, but I will continue to monitor.

Update. Received the sensor and I’m seriously disappointed. The 6 digit SN# required to set up the app does not appear on the packaging anywhere. After about 30 minutes of looking everywhere and even taking the applicator apart I finally, out of desperation, tried adding two zeros to the end of a 4 digit number and it worked! It’s been hours of trying now and the device won’t connect to the app. This thing is obviously being beta tested on the first customers. I feel ripped off. I used the Freestyle before as part of a nutritional study and it was simple and seamless to set up. Don’t waste your money just yet on this piece of garbage. Wait for them to work out the bugs in their process and app. Or for a competitor to beat them to it. Big thumbs down 👎 for this product.

Not really necessary, just stop eating carbs. I actually recommend pairing back everything to just meat, eggs, butter and then after a wash out period try adding things back in to see what you tolerate. For me I'm happiest on mostly just red meat, bacon, eggs. Vegetables have no discernible benefit, I tolerate chicken and some spices occasionally. Sauerkraut is ok. Anything high in carbs makes me feel bloated and sluggish so I completely avoid. I've tried giving up coffee for 2 months and when I tried it again I noticed no difference so I'm ok with it. CGM is interesting but it's completely unnecessary if you just follow a few simple rules of keeping carbs as low as possible - it gets much easier over time as you beat the addiction.

I have been wearing it now for 2 days. It is very solid and pretty stable in comparison to some others, such as Abbott's Freestyle Libre, which is horribly overestimating the blood glucose and is useless. The Stelo is way better. However, it has some shortcomings: no data list! So you can see an trend by line but not the numbers. It also doesn't have alarm if you go outside of the range, and you only have 2 ranges to choose from: 70-140 or 70-180 and nothing else. These are strong limitations, but for the price, it's acceptable.

I'm ketovore (mostly carnivore) and I used to be 6.2. What I found totally unexpected was how much my glucose level went up during strenuous exercise--but my averages are still nice, so I won't worry. With Stelo, I'm convinced I'll be able to get my averages down even more. On a side note, a friend's MD told him he was "good" with an A1C of 6.2. Organs are being damaged and he's "good." 🙄

The past ten days I was able to use a Dexcom CGM. I was shocked to learn my blood sugar spikes on saccharin (Sweet N Low). I drink iced tea with saccharine all day long. And then a glass of milk every night which was also spiking my glucose. I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic with insulin resistance a year ago, so I’ve been low carb and low/no sugar for a year now. Had no idea how badly I’d been messing up. Changing all that now. Just purchased a subscription to Stelo and plan to keep it until I know exactly how my blood sugar is responding to all foods, exercise, sleep, etc. So thankful to be able to get this OTC version.

I also have it synced to Clarity, which I’m still exploring.

Mine was still reading 15 to 20 points high after two days. On another channel person that wears a Dexcom G7 said that they get the best readings by placing it on the thigh. So I took off the sensor on my arm and placed the second one on my thigh. Have to see how that works. I contacted Stelo and said I had a defected sensor. So hopefully, they replace the first sensor.

I just put mine on today! I started the day at 10:30am with a 115, which is shocking. I didn’t eat until around 2, after I took a walk. Glucose elevated to 136 after the walk then came down to the 90’s just before my first meal. It did a little rollercoaster up to 116 and down to 80 over the next few hours. This timeframe includes my second meal (leftover scrambled eggs with bacon and cheese from the first meal). It’s all stayed inside the 70-140 “normal range” but I don’t know if that’s actually normal. I just know that I never knew it moved around so much. Seeing the data is amazing! Apple watch will pair with my Dexcom 7. This is a new feature, but you have to first pair the Dexcom 7 with your phone. Does it have a way to shut the low glucose level alarm off. I have tried the free style one several times. The alarms wakes you up when you deep in the 60’s. You can’t shut it off. I know you said the dawn effect will cause a spike of glucose around 4 in the morning. But free style CGM is not accurate. You can roll in your sleep and the weight of leaning on it can cause the glucose level to go from 70 to 103 in seconds even during a fasting period if you put weight on it in your sleep. During the day my levels stay in low 80’s and after eating meat, it takes maybe 3-4 hours before it rises. And only 3-4 points it goes up. But if you do HIT training with it on, your glucose can go from 80’s to 120 levels during a 90 minute period of strength training and HIT cardio. But after workout, it levels down to 80’s in 30 minutes.

It might be an eye opener for them to see how what they eat actually impacts their glucose. These are the same people who have never measured ketones, which is the only way to actually see if you’re in ketosis. All this stuff is expensive, way too expensive, but if you’re doing keto for a set of changes and you’re happy with the changes. No need to measure. If you are not seeing the changes you want, measuring can be an eye opener vs. the person who says, “ I tried keto, it doesn’t work”. Sorry, preaching to the choir here.
