Some people need a high saturated fat diet, while others require more carbs along with less saturated fats. Our autonomic nervous system is the best determining factor for individual diet choice. Atkins treated parasympathetic driven patients with a high saturated fat diet with excellent weight loss and complete blood sugar/insulin balance. Sympathetic driven people can vary from a diet with less saturated fats and a medium carb intake, while some do best on a vegan diet. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWXJZImYmLmSe5o

Thanks for this good information. I’be been a nurse for 20 years with at least 10 years in cardiac nursing. It’s so sickening to constantly hear about low fat and low cholesterol when patients are coming in constantly with MIs with low cholesterol and on statins. The big push now seems to be a plant based diet. 🤮

I believe I did have an increase in occasional Afib (WPW related) in the year after I started taking Atorvastatin due to TIA's happening 3 times. Now that afib was stopped via an ablation surgery, I'm told Afib incidents sometimes RETURN after 6 months or a year. With a Calcium score over 700, I'm still taking Atorvastatin. Could the relapse into Afibs be because patients remain on statins after the fix? I'm a type who doesn't keep fat (or gain weight) very well, in contrast usual Dr. Cywes patients. I'm also diagnosed with Reflux due to hiatle hernia, ADHD (a recent surprise at 75 years old), and of course, bowel over-sensitivity issues.

I use to have Paroxysmal afib. (intermittent. every few days for a few hours) It was corrected 5 years ago with a catheter ablation procedure. I had been taking a blood thinner before the procedure. My cardiologits put me on the thinner becasue I had afib. After the surgery I asked him how much longer I would have to be on the thinner. He said the rest of my life. What? I thought you put me on the thinner because I had afib and now I don't. He stated once an afiber always an afiber. What? Essentially he indicated he didn't want to be sued if I keeled over. He also wanted me on the statins I was taking for the same reason. I had HDL of 90 and tryglycerides of 40. So there is my story about a negligent cardiologist. I have been off the statins and blood thinner ever since. And, by the way, my blood work ups have been better than ever the last 3 years because of the keto diet I have been and my OMD.

Part of the issue is time / money. We spend years learning. Millions of dollars in costs for time and education. The video over 20 minutes. For me and my group of doctors, we provide time by the minute, not by visit. So if the patient wants 5 minutes or has booked 5 hours we don't care and will give them the amount of time they have paid. That is fair, honest, justified service. All customers / clients / patients should be on a pay by the minute program. All pre-paid by retainer just like legal fees. This allows everyone to get exactly as they need from the time / services. The system is broken. Needs to be a cash for services system.

I had regular arrhythmias basically every day for many years and they were only getting worse, along with hypertension that I wasn't able to solve, even with common medications. I changed to a ketogenic diet high in fatty meats and not only did I lose a lot of weight, but after several months the blood pressure eventually came down and numerous other things I didn't even know were related also improved. And then I also realised those annoying arrhythmias had completely ceased. I had actually completely forgotten about them. They haven't returned.

@@sarahm2926 I have no idea how long it took to be honest. I only realised they had gone after some time, wasn't focusing on them going away because I wasn't expecting or looking for that to happen. I also started to take magnesium and Vitamin D during that time, and I think that helps quite a bit. On a couple of occasions I ran out of magnesium supplements for a week or so and the arrhythmias very noticeably came back on both occasions - and I wasn't expecting this to happen. They faded 3 days or so after resumption. I've been religious about taking magnesium and eating magnesium rich foods since. There's good info out there on magnesium, it also goes hand-in-hand with taking Vitamin D. There's only a couple of types of magnesium that are readily absorbed by the body. I finally understand what the problem is (cause). Now what? We need a video discussing the repair of that nerve insulation. Can it be repaired with a low carb/keto/ carnivore diet? After 1 week or so, I had peripheral neuropathy in my hands (something I've never had to deal with). When I went back to the doctor and described my side-effect, the doctor refused to acknowledge the statin was responsible. I brought her research and she wouldn't even give it a look. She tried to make me feel crazy for suggesting the statin was responsible. I fired her and stopped taking the damaging drug...fortunately, my body pushed back early! So reversing your insulin resistance is a key factor in the reversal of this condition. If I understand you correctly, The repair of the chronic nerve damage can happen over time. My husband has had a history of A-fib which was treated with blood thinners and also cardioversion on two occasions. He has been keto/carnivore for the past three years and no further incidences. Also will add he’s lost about 100 pounds and kept it off in that time. Getting the cardiologist to remove medications is like pulling teeth. It seems the smart thing to request is a 24-hour Holter monitor, or even wear a device to monitor heart rhythms long term. Maybe then, the evidence would be more convincing to the cardiologist. I understand the risk of stroke incidence being much higher with an A-Fib history, however, that’s assuming one hasn’t made major lifestyle changes.

So 3 aspects of her panel went in good directions, but he said she was now worse off and needed drugs to fix it. She came to me because she trusted my opinion more than her doctor. I do a lot of health research, but I'm not a doctor, so this is a sad testament to what the state of our health system is, and how pharmaceutical protocols rule the narrative. And this is why I don't trust doctors with my health.

Wow, glad you covered this. I've had AFib for years. It makes sence that eating a terrible sugar and proccessed carb diet for most of my life would create my arythmias. I have been on Keto for a couple of years but my Afib has gotten worse. I am not sure if things will heal over time or not. My left Atria is enlarged from years of Afib events. I feel terrible during an event because my blood is not pumping properly. I am on medication that helps, but I still have Afib episodes, just not as often or as long. My Cordiologist says I am not a good canidate for ablation. Not sure if I want that anyway. Heart arythmias seem to be such a misundertood and complex subject. I wish I could consult with you, Dr Cywes for all of my labs, but my Insurance wont cover me. Thank you for covering this subject and for all that you do. Really appreciate you.

The more progressive drs I listen to, the more convinced I am that we need an unprocessed, low carb, low omega 6, high omega 3 diet. THREE 4+day hospitalizations since then. In and out of RVR 4 times. IV loaded with Amiodarone on 3/08/22. Sent home on 400mg Ami. Have been weaned down to 100mg/day and was told TODAY to stop Amiodarone. On Beta Blocker for HR. Just placed on HCTZ 12.5 to help control BP. Constant SOB, but good news is I am now referred to as a "Carb Restricted Type II Diabetic" in my medical record. Went from A1C of 7 to 5.3 since Oct 2021. Average Blood Sugar 105. Wearing a CGM. PS had a "beautiful" heart cath...Not a 'plumbing' issue, but they say I NEED a statin. NO plaque, NO cardiovascular disease, LDL went up with Keto and restricted carbs (Oh No!) lol. Will be contacting you soon! TYVM for ALL you are doing! Bless YOU!

No one has ever had answers for me about why an otherwise healthy person would have so much trouble getting a resting heart rate below 100 or why my blood pressure would drop low enough to lose vision half the time when I would stand up. I would love to see videos that go more into the other problems your nervous system can develop. I did notice that I stopped losing pressure after starting keto, but I got more fit generally so not sure how much to attribute to what. Thanks doc!

I had the same problem, resting heart rate over 100 and a very low blood pressure of 60/100 after eating carnivore with a lot of fat. I eat around half a block of butter a day. As soon as I reduced the fat and eat mostly eggs and meat without much extra fat like butter and added more salt and coffee, my blood pressure and heart rate normalized now. Today, only a few weeks later, I have a resting heart rate of around 70 and a blood pressure of 75/115. In my case it was too much fat, but I am not sure why fat hast this affect in my case. I would like to eat more fat because it is cheaper and saturates me for longer and calms me down but it seems to have a negative effect on my heart. Good luck.

This is very interesting information. I have had atrial and ventricular ectopic beats for some years. Over time they have become more frequent. From this video i assume that this is caused by damage to my cardiac nerves. Over the last year i have gone low carb, lost 14kg, started regular gym work, and got much fitter. However the ectopic beats have not abated. I have them nearly all the time, from 4 per minute up to 20 per minute. My question is, with my high fat low carb diet, will the nerves repair themselves, and if so, how long will it take?

Thank you so much for your videos, you really lay out the mechanics of the human body in such an easily comprehensible fashion! I used to get arrhythmias back when I was young, usually when I smoked a tad too much weed. I quit THC 20 years ago, and haven't had much since., and certainly not since going predominantly carnivore :) I feel like my resting heart rate is still too high, though, but don't have an accurate way of checking that all by myself. As far as your religion analogy goes: here's my argument for nicotine/smoking: lung cancer wasn't a thing until cigarettes were mass-manufactured using chemicals from field through to final processing, which tells me it's not the nicotine/tobacco itself that is the problem. Also, the person who holds the world record for longest-lived at 127 years of age at death smoked until she went blind at age 110 - she only quit because she felt foolish having to ask strangers to help her light up! And then we have George Burns, died age 101: has ANYONE EVER seen him without a cigar in his mouth and snifter of whiskey in hand? There are countless more examples, but just these two tell me that there's a lot more to longevity than being in perfect physical health! Happiness seems to always come up in interviews with centenarians, and certainly a healthy mind will be better at keeping up on repairing any damage from certain bad habits... Just the fact that we are electric beings and surrounded by various external electrical influences makes that make sense! I'm not gonna say that smoking is healthy (I smoke), but I also don't view it as a death sentence, except maybe for those who go to the extreme (I average 12-15/day, and even take a day off once in awhile.)

Any recommendations for reducing clot risk? I'm not talking about arterial plaques (my carotids are clean per a recent CT angiogram), but about clots from a PFO/atrial septal aneurysm that gave me a stroke 14 years ago. I'm on plavix and, at 68, fairly fit - VO2max 49, BMI of 20.5. But that recent CT scan followed a recent TIA, so I'm looking for anything else I can do short of a PFO closure, which my neurologist doesn't recommend.

The cardiologist didn't like it when I asked what the risk benefit was for taking a statin with someone whose cholesterol was 159. Even though suffering from almost all of the side effects listed on the RX info sheet. The dr wanted to double the dose and explained that none of her other patients complained about it. Like another patient has anything to do with the unique patient in front of you. Maybe the other patients didn't complain because their brains were completely fried from mega doses of statins?
@sharonholmes60832 жыл бұрын
As a nurse, I tell people to read up on their diseases, encourage them to do preventative care and to find ways to help their bodies to heal, know what their medicines are for (side effects as well), and if need be fire the doctor! I have done that!

A couple months ago at my husbands "last" visit with his cardiologist showed his cholesterol had went down. The Dr wanted to 'UP" his statin! Why? When it went down! You're fired! He started doing all his own research, and stopped the statin totally! He said it is amazing how he feels after the side effects went away! We started carnivore then as well. We are 99% carnivore, moving to 100%.

I have watched a lot of heart disease and treatment videos, but have heard almost nothing about the electrical maladies associated with them. You have given us very logical and plausible explanations of WHY our hearts have behaved the way they did. You are a great explainer of bodily processes. You make it easy for me to visualize the electrical and mechanical functioning of the heart nerves and muscles. I hope you produce more videos of this nature.
