Yes, I've had this problem and it did baffle me. 4weeks into keto I was getting negative or trace results on the sticks. So this video has been enlightening, as I have and still am, losing weight. Also I have more stable energy, but still find I have trouble sleeping. I think I'm doing all the right things, so time to put the sticks away. Thanks for this channel it's really helpful

I started keto on December Second and I lost 5 pounds in two weeks. This is the first time that I lost to many pounds in short time. Before this it took me like five months to loose 5 pounds. In total I lost 10 pounds. I bought stripes to test ketosis but came negative. My cloth is getting loose and my body is turning nice.

Yes. Unless I am in the midst of a multi-day fast, the keto sticks show little or no ketones.. I have been doing Keto for going on 5 months, and have had a steady weight loss.. I miss that dark purple reading, but know that I am still on track..

WOW! My brother-in-law developed gout. He also went on a Keto diet and lost about 30 lbs. Not sure the MD that treated his gout thought to ask about this specific connection. Of course they address diet, exercise, but THIS, now this a a detail that is so useful for real!

Omgosh! Finally a video on just what I was looking for!!! I started keto 4 months ago and a couple of weeks ago when I went and had blood work my uric acid levels were really high, but I have no painful joints or swelling and my iron is a bit low. I finally know why and am not so stress out about it. Thank you!!!

Three months I’ve been eating very low carb vegetables and meat and only the right vegetables I am not stupid my A1 C went from 6.5 to 5.1 my doctor was impressed yet I have never had a positive keto stick and now the weight loss has completely stopped for at least three weeks I’ve been 20 pounds under where I started it just stopped and I don’t know

I was a bit frustrated! I’ve been doing keto for about a year. I’ve had chronic low back pain shortly after I started. I hope this is why, I just hope it will go away soon!!! Two back braces is supper frustrated!

I have been eating meat for a solid month. I bought keystones strips excited to see that I was on ketosis and burning fat!!! To my surprise I was not 😖😫 so disappointed. No carbs I promise and a minimal minimal amount of sugar. I am drinking a ton of Cascade no calorie no sugar flavored carbonated water. Could this mean that my body has just adapted and I’m still burning fat 😬

Thanks Dr Dan another really good video. I loved the anatomical videos as gave useful information. I’ve yet to start any testing other than weight loss, however this has slowed right down. So I am wondering if I’m not in ketosis, definitely would like the cheat sheet and I’ll consider the urine sticks. Off to google where to get them from!

I’m 72 hours into a water fast and I’m still not showing color. Usually they do into the 5th day but I doubt it takes that long to actually reach ketosis.

Ive been on the dark side of the ketone urine test for 4 months, i started working out on my 5th month keto and now km close in the middle of clear and some pinkish. I thought working out is messing with my keto diet, is it though? Does it burn all my ketones and prevents my body to burn stored fat?

I'm 10 days in and no change on keto strips. I have had bad gout in the past. I was wondering if taking Jardiance could affect the results. I've halved my dosage (5 mg). I just bought a acetone breath keto meter and I'm blowing a 1.2. So there are ketones in my body.

So does this mean that it is probably too hard on your liver and kidney if you are showing signs of fatty liver and you have a grafted kidney? It sounds like a lot to put them through.

Nothing wrong at all. Newbies never seem to be told there is a standard sequence of events. For the first two weeks, the sticks might show high ketones. Then at the start of week 3, our bodies switch from emergency mode to just being in the winter. So the sticks go light, trace or even negative. That's the normal sequence of events.

Thanks for the information. I have lost more than 50 pounds in 4 months. I tried urine testing strips with no indications of ketosis. I have for the last 4 months massively reduced my carbohydrate and protein intake. I have lost the allmost continuous impulse to eat that once was there. I still find this to be remarkable. I feel very good and sharper mentally. Also pain in my knee and shoulder have reduced to low very low levels. Keep the protein intake down to 1 or two ounces or 25 to 50 grams. Any protein more than this is converted to sugars. Thanks again for your reassuring and informative video.

I fast for 48 hours and 24 but No ketosis. I had my blood done and liver and kidney are running normal. I eat a very healthy diet.

@@DrDanMaggs I am watching your videos to get know more about my fasting and ketones. I am diabetic. Started my fasting with bullet proof coffee. After 24 hours fasting my glucose reading was 154. No change in the urine analysis strip. 48 hours of fasting the glucose reading is 102. The strip analysis matched the 2nd one. Please let me know how am I doing? Your videos are very well explained. After 4 months doing keto with strict net carb control, got my strips. Try #1 in the morning was 0.5, #2, 3, 4 too, #5 was 1.5 after my only meal of the day. The next day I was negative and desperate 🤣 I guess having been on intermittent fasting for 2 years got me into ketosis very quickly and my body mostly knew what to do with ketones already. Thank you for enlightening me because I was so frustrated that the ketone sticks show I'm no longer in ketosis since going carnivore. I have been full carnivore for 5 weeks and down 12 lbs. and I've been keto since last Thanksgiving and down 42.4 lbs since then. I feel amazing and have greatly improved my bloodwork profile since starting keto and will be retested at the end of September with 2 full months on carnivore. So, we'll see the difference in my bloodwork profile soon.

YES I am so grateful for this video! Because my absence of brain fog tells me I am on ketones BUT the sticks are negative and I was getting REALLY worried I'd knocked myself out of ketosis. So thanks Dan. PS Are you a NHS trained doc, and if so how can I best explain my diet to my GP who might see it as a fad, off KZbin!

I had nasty nasty charlie horses along with being a totally lump. I started to eat a bit more Himalayan salt & remembering to take my vitamins. Hang in there because I'm feeling better now and it's been 6 weeks for me too. Hang in there ....it is SO worth it...

I’ve done keto for months at a time a few times. It always does exactly what it’s supposed to as long as I follow it to the letter, but I’ve always shown little or no ketones on test strips. But I know when I go into keto flu mode (and use exogenous ketones to get through it) and I know when I’m fat adapted because the focus and energy are palpable. The timeframes pretty much follow exactly what all the literature says. But, and I stress this, I don’t do cheat days at all. Seeing as how I’ll do it for two or three months at a time and there are plenty of great dessert fat bomb recipes out there, it’s sustainable for that long, just boring. Read up on it, and find out what to and not to eat. I’ve found that the best way is by using whole ingredients for 90% of your food. Don’t buy the boxed keto shit. And certainly don’t do that for meal replacements. The only stuff I supplement is exogenous ketones and onnit mct oil. I lost 73 lbs over a couple years and I’ve kept it off ever since. When I need a reset, I do a month or two. No big. You can do it. Lastly, you can do keto all you want but at the end of the day, it’s still calories in/calories out. You still need to carry a caloric deficit to lose weight. You can’t just eat cheese all day without having any idea of how much and expect to see progress. You’ll just lose it faster in ketosis and a caloric deficit. In that way, science is science. I’ve alternately used Nutritionix and Cronometer to track macros, but I’ve pretty much gone just to Cronometer. It gives you all the relevant info you need to eat the right amount based on age, height/weight, and diet plan.

Sorry with my learning curve so flat but I fasted 10 hours and had a blood lab and my Ketones Urine was Negative mg/dL does that mean I am in Ketosis? I was on Carnivore Diet for 2 years and I had a nonstemi or mild heart attack and my LAD had a 75% blockage and got a stent placed on 5-6-24. During my 5 day hospital stay (seemed far too long and was that excessive for a nonstemi and one stent?) My glucose was 121. I basically take 3lbs of grass-fed ground beef, combine it with six organic eggs, two pounds cheese, one sometimes two 12.5 oz canned chicken breast, 24oz organic tomato basil pasta sauce, 12oz of zero carb dairy based pasta sauce. I kneed all together and cook it on the stove-top in a big kettle and eat that for a couple of days. If I'm not eating that I bake chicken thighs or have a whole rotisserie chicken. I think because of the pasta sauce doesn't that mean I'm not really in ketosis? My Protein Albumin Urine was 10 or abnormal but is that because of being on my quasi-carnivore diet? I get gout attacks and on this diet since 5-10-24 and had an attack a week ago but was eating too many Atkins bars with a lot of protein in them and I know from the past if I slip into that Atkins bars mode too much I can get a gout attack. My mother also had gout so maybe it's hereditary for me, right?

Been doing < 50g carb for 3 months, weight quickly dropped from 250 lbs. to 217 lbs. - only intake carbs from a few grapes or strawberries a day so definitely under 50 carbs a day - feeling great. Decided to try urine test strips but they show no ketones. I know I'm probably in ketosis because the weight is still falling off - thanks for this explanation - makes sense - I was worried I was doing something wrong.

@@nefariousfox4891 I got to 175 but stalled. The Lee’s you have to lose, the less you can lose so don’t get bummed if it slows a lot when you reach a pretty lean state. I switched to carnivore for a few months and it was great.

If I had 50g of carbs in a day, it’d likely knock me out of ketosis. I’m on week two of keto diet(I’ve tried this diet once before and failed but now am determined) and have shot for less than 10g carbs a day. It’s difficult, but my body is responding incredibly well. Started at 261 lbs 15 days ago and am down to 242 now. Almost 20 lbs! Granted, I did weigh myself at different times: first weigh in was late evening, and today was mid afternoon. Probably a 3-4 lb fluctuation. Excited to get below 200 by November. That’s my goal.

Yes! I've been on keto for like more than a month and first few weeks the pee sticks showed dark purple which was encouraging! Now going onto my 6th week it shows none or a small reaction (sometimes). I had one minor cheat day at the end of the 4th week, but it was only one day and not too many carbs. I've been following my macros for a week straight hardcore to make sure the pee stick worked but I guess I'm ketone adapted now?

Here's an interesting data geek scenario that I couldn't ever figure out. Would love your opinion. We aren't concerned as our results have been great, but it's just always been a weird anomaly My wife and I started keto at the same time and eat pretty close to the same meals, with some slight portion differences. She ALWAYS gets a high result on the Urine strips, like DEEP on the scale, but almost without fail, exactly half of what I score on the blood test. Me, on the other hand, usually test in the 1.8-3.0 range on blood tests (sometimes a weird outlier in either direction) but my urine tests have ALWAYS been trace amounts, regardless of my blood results. Again, we are not concerned that we are doing anything wrong, it's just always been a weird thing. Thoughts? Great channel BTW, I really like the way your ideas are presented and organized.

It is NOT *only* about low carbs, but *high* (quality) fat. Don't overdo protein! Eat high quality *animal* fat!

After 2 months of doing Keto, I finally got some Ketone Strips. They indicate that I am not in ketosis. From you video I found out the my body is adjusting to the keto diet. Thanks for you help.

Yes!!!! I've had so much inflammation more then ever, I might stop it hurt so much. I might keep going I've made it so far...but now that I'm hearing that it may go away, I'm hoping sooner then later.

Yip!! I don’t suffer with gout but have an old hip injury that flared up so bad I’m back on walking aid. Could be a coincidence but I’ve been on strict keto for nearly 3 weeks now and today I stopped showing up positive for ketones in the urine! Jaw dropped after watching this video. Fingers crossed by hip pain now starts to fade with the uric acid in my blood. Gobsmacked

I know this is a 5 year old vide, but I have a question: I've been in ketosis for 1,5 years. Last time I cheated for a day was +3 months ago. I've measured my blood ketone levels twice; 2,5mmol and 2,4mmol. I'm on a ketocarnivore diet. I sometimes test whether or not I pee blank ketone strips or not (to make sure I'm in ketosis), and I've noticed that sometimes it registers small amounts of ketones in urine. Why, and is this harmful? I drank a pepsi max yesterday with zero carbs in it and flavoured with aspartame, and today after a big meal I peed pretty dark ketones. Is that just something that can happen after a big meal? The meal was just butter, eggs, bacon and minced meat and heavy cream. Do I need to be worried, or is this just normal? I feel good and I definitely feel like I'm in ketosis. I do notice when I'm properly in ketosis.

Yes my urine strips show no ketones but my breath meter shows my ketones are so high they're bright red.

My test strips stoped showing a result. I’m on very strict ketovore with 2 mad intermittent fasting. So I bought meter. It’s running .8-1.1. Still very low consider how low my carbs are. Thanks for info.

I have gout. I've been using Vinny Tortorich's "No sugar/starch/grain diet" for almost a year now. I lost 40lbs in the first four months, and have kept pretty much at that level, (other than losing an additional 10lbs when I had Covid and my throat swelled shut). I don't believe I've had a gout flareup since I started. Could it be the lack of sugar? Vinny accuses sugar of causing inflammation, and this came to mind while watching this video.

Literally what happening to me! I thought I was limping from the joint on my right kneee because I’m running too much. I had blood work and it said uric acid in blood is high and ketones 40 😢 I been wondering WTH is going on w my body I have on and off mild headaches. I’m not trying to loose weight just live leaner and fasting once a week for regenerative purposes

I never had Gout or the symptoms of Gout. I've been on Keto for 5 days and the strips show very low Ketones. I am a Diabetic and use a Blood Glucose Monitor. How can you tell with the Glucose Monitor? lol I feel silly not knowing how to use it. I guess I'll test now and see if it shows Ketones as well as Blood Sugar. Thanks

I've not gotten a negative, but rather, never getting well into a level of ketones/darker purple, instead a very pale pink, while completely on ketogenic food. I'm still losing weight so I don't worry about it.
