I did experience pretty bad irritation from The Ordinary 10% Niacinamide Serum, but I don't like being wasteful. So now I just mix it into my daily moisturizer (which does not have that ingredient) and I'm now experiencing the benefits!

Yes, I was new to the Ordinary, of course I ignored their warnings and bought too much. No problem in the summer, but when it got cold and super dry here in Montana, boy did I have irritation. I eliminated everything, gradually have worked back up to fewer products, alternating treatments weekly. When I went back to the Niacinamide, back came the roughness, I'm going to try it mixed with my moisturizer. I only watch Dr. Dray now, she is the best!

From what you described w people being more drawn to the serums, I specifically use the Ordinary 10% niacinamide serum bc it works better w my moisturizer. Mine (aveeno oat gel) doesn’t have it, but I am one of the rosacea people who can’t tolerate thick moisturizers, so this is an ideal combo for me. I apply the drops to wet skin & go in w my moisturizer after. And the 10% doesn’t bother me at all. In fact, it is *the* thing that keeps my skin calm, and thus my acne & rosacea under control. It was the thing that saved me this summer from a horrendous bout of acne & rosacea flaring, caused by stress, masks, and humid weather. I can’t live without that stuff lol!

Whatever people say or try to downplay it. A mild cleanser twice a day like Cerave Foaming Cleanser for normal to oily skin, Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% twice a day, light gel moisturizer and Tretinoin 0.05 have changed my face in 24 days. I experienced mild peeling from the Tretinoin (started 3 times a week now I'm using it every night), redness after applying the Niacinamide but faded after 10mins. My skin now looks healthy, flowy, less visible pores, basically no breakouts at all (never had many but sometime I would have 1 or 2 stranded, not anymore) and the overall change throughout the day were I don't feel the need to blot excess oil every midday or afternoon. Worked wonders for me

the same! I have just 4 products in my routine. Cerave Foaming Cleanser +Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%+ Cerave moisturizer in morning and +trerinoin micro 0,4 in night! Only 1 month passed and my face is completely clean now. By the way, I also had the same irritation and peeling for the first week. But that went away after I started using tretinoin on top of my moisturizer, as many dermatologists advise. Now i use tretinoin every day and everything is fine, I think my skin is very responsive to tretinoin and niacinamide

I have to disagree with the buying a separate niacinamide product part, it's just for my case maybe, but the 10% Niacinamide serum from TO or geek & gorgeous really helped me with my facial ingrown hairs and shaving, I use it every day (once a day). Once I decided to stop it as I've read that 10% is too much, guess what, ingrown hairs were back a week after I stopped using it. I do believe 10% Niacinamide can have great benefits for the skin, (ps: I used the Centella serum with 3% niacinamide from purito and it did nothing for my ingrown hairs as the 10% serum did) . (But I guess it depends from a skin to another)

Niacinamide is great! I don't have access to most of the products Dr Dray recommends but I try to follow the tips she gives. One of the products I have been using is Nature Republic's Pure Cherry Blossom Toner and its fourth ingredient is niacinamide (the entire line has niacinamide pretty high up in the ingredient list) and it helped with my hyperpigmentation and general brightening effect on my complexion. If you're not sensitive to fragrance (the scent isn't overpowering, it's pretty subtle) or plant extracts I really recommend the entire line! It's pretty affordable too.

I should have listened to you when you had mentioned in an earlier video about how The Ordinary's Niacinamide serum could be irritating for some people due to the 10% concentration of it, and that the recommended percent is actually 5. I thought it would work so amazing on me cause of the reviews and it ended up breaking me out so bad every single day for like almost 2 months. I've never been acne prone in my life until I used that. Needless to say, once I realized it was that causing me to have awful acne all over my face, I stopped and waited til the breakouts went away, then very slowly started to incorporate a product that only had 5% Niacinamide. Haven't stopped since, and have been getting great results from that!!

So, I've been watching both Idriss and Dray videos, and I appreciate their different perspectives on many things such as whether niacinamide is better in a serum or moisturizer. I think Dray's probably right that it functions just as well in a moisturizer. However, I'm still considering a 5% serum like Super Pure because I don't want to be limited with my moisturizer options. It just seems simpler not to have to tie my moisturizer/sunscreen decision to whether or not it includes niacinamide. It would be my only morning serum, so no crazy layering going on. I think the 5% serums have their place.

You should try Naturiums line. I’ve bought so many products from them and my skin never freaked out (which it normally does) and it’s not expensive. Everything I’ve bought from them is amazing. I have super sensitive acne prone skin

I love your point about the serums. If you love it and it works well, keep using it! I love using it almost daily but I'll stick to the cheap Ordinary serum instead of spending $$$ on a common ingredient. ❤️

Thank you! I am on prescription tretinoin and cut back on serums completely. Now i use Time Revolution's essences or I'm from mugwort essence, followed up by La Roche Posay Toleraine Ultra Fluide. I've cut out the serums and I have experienced less flushing and less irritation. The ordinary's niacinamide serum had to be pushed away for the time being :) Love you and your videos, much love from Slovenia

Thank you for sharing another informative skin care video. I recently began suffering from redness and skin irritation and I have found that niacinimide is in many of my skin care products from cleanser to moisturizer to foundation serum. I am wondering if it could be the culprit of this skin barrier issue. How do I determine if this is the case?

Yeah, its a stable, low cost antioxidant and as such is used to stabilize the formular and increase shelf life. The question though is if its in a high enough percentage to have a benefit to your skin.

@MariyaMagija 3 жыл бұрын
@@magpiesneedle2575 I use the Floodgate serum by Ghost Democracy and the Super Pure serum by Glossier. The first one is a hyaluronic serum with 4% niacinamide, so it had a watery gel texture like most HA serums. The second one has 5% niacinamide, and has a very watery texture that absorbs quickly. Both are great for controlling acne and inflammation, it’s just a matter of personal preference. I also used the Krave Beauty Great Barrier Relief serum in the past, 2% niacinamide, which is also nice. That one’s more of a lotion-like texture.
