I’ve struggled with acne for 2 years and for me I’ve noticed that salicylic acid helps control the surface level pimples but benzoyl peroxide is extremely affective in dealing with acne as a whole and deeper penetrating acne. So if you have minor pimples I’d say go with salicylic acid but if you can acne that’s flared up and red then go with benzoyl peroxide

Folks do not forget sunscreen. I remember when I was a teenager and I had applied an ointment with benzoyl peroxide and then went out to buy bread. I returned with the area quite itchy and somewhat dark. It was just superficial but I realised how important sunscreen is when using these products.

@@iivy1818 I used 5% right off the bat because it's the only percentage of bp I can get near me. My skin didn't react badly to it which is kinda normal since I have a very non-sensitive skin. Carefull with that. I've seen endless people complaining about it on forums: it can have severe side effects ans create crust on top of the skin over time. It often throws skin out of balance for a very long period of time. American dermatologists love it for fast results but don't really care about long-term effect. Here in Europe it's far not as common as it is in the USA. It's always better to start from your hormones and visiting a good endocrinologist.

I started using a salicylic acid cleanser, followed by toner/essense, The Ordinary Niacinamide/Zinc serum, Neutrogena benzoyl peroxide leave-on mask treatment, then my moisturizer and spf. I've been using this for a few weeks now, and it seems to be working great for treating my acne.

Thank you Dr. Dray! After watching a lot of your videos a while back, I made the decision to combine both active ingredients (salicylic acid wash [CeraVe/LaRochePosay] in morning & benzoyl peroxide wash at night [PanOxyl]) and the results are amazing it almost freaked me out!

Yas IsBlue what percentage did you use of panoxyl. Also I have both the cerave sa wash and panoxyl 10% but i see no result with either really. When i first started using panoxyl it worked and cleared my skin for the first week but after it stopped working 🙄

I’m honestly not sure. I also use the 10%. But I do know it takes a long time for results like from 3-6 months. It comes down to restrict consistency too.

I use lower percentages of both salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide in the morning, then rotate between glycolic acid and retinol at night. It sounds like a lot but this is really working well for my skin and it looks nicer now than it has in a long time. It's so much smoother and more moisturised. I still get hormonal breakouts but my cystic acne is greatly reduced and the PIH is usually gone in a week instead of a month. My husband started using Panoxyl for his hidradenitis suppurativa after I heard you recommend it and that's improved for him too.

I love your channel and your enthusiasm towards BP, but I believe you should warn people more about its high irritating potential. I used it without talking about this product to my dermatologist. She told me she would have never advised it to me. It’s shame I personally can’t tolerate it, because it gave me a good cleaning effect right after the use! Happy that others can. I used it in small amount locally, for a few days or every 2 days and I developed a strong irritation at the end. Basically half of my face was swollen and I couldn’t open my right eye well. Be careful all! Sometimes strong reactions don’t come directly. 😊

CAUTION: Don't know why its not often mentioned but if you are allergic to aspirin, do not use Salicylic acid. Aspirin is a form of salicylic acid. Also, if you think the cause of your acne is due to something internal (the best example for you is...imagine you are allergy to something you ate and you get hives (a raised bump on the skin) and not just due to oil & bacteria on top of the skin...I would really ease up on both Salicyclic Acid or Benzoyl Peroxide.
