I really love how Dr.Dray educates us. She doesn't just say, "Oh you can use this for that & that for this, it works." She really educates us on products, what it's comparable too & what not to use it with. She's saved me from making bad decisions a many of days & because I take notes my skin is so much better & I've even asked my own dermatologist & made him aware of medicines he didn't know about. I was wondering if I should switch dermatologist because he's in his 70s, he was my Grandparents' dermatologist as well as my mom's. It seemed natural that he became my dermatologist but there are products he's not aware of. What do you think I should do?

It also cleared up my teenage daughters very very oily problematic skin & her nose covered in blackheads now has none. I love my tretinoin cream, which insurance covered completely. But what helped me best, was getting my skin barrier back to where it was before getting acne & going crazy w treatments. I went straight to witch hazel as a toner (worked quick, but ruined my skin & I believe caused the vicious cycle) Dr dray I looked but didn’t find it, what do you think of honey masks? i’ve been on aczone for around 4 years or so (5%) because things like salicylic acid, benzyl peroxide, clindamyicin, trentinoin, any type of retinol or differin gel has been way too harsh on my skin and makes me break out in a rash rather than just pimples like it normally should... I had a point in time within the last year or so where I just randomly was starting to break out and my dermatologist, even though I told her I had very reactive skin, tried to get me to use benzoyl peroxide which does NOT work for my skin, and then I also tried clindamyosin and tretinoin (at the same time) for a while but that was too harsh on my skin and didn’t do anything about the acne. And then she prescribed me differin because it supposed to be a “weaker version of retinA”she said. I was still using aczone during all of this. She never told me that I couldn’t use the aczone when I used a benzoyl peroxide which is very surprising to me… and when i asked about aczone being antibacterial she said it’s not...I think I need a new dermatologist

Dr. Gray, I enjoyed this video. Very informative. I am a black female over age 50 and was recently prescribed Acezone 7.5% and Spirotolactone 25mg, so I'm looking forward to watching your video discussing this. Tell me. Is it okay to get a chemical peel using salicylic acid if you are using this combination? If not, when is it safe? By the way, I saw positive results by the end of the 2nd week. I frequently have ingrown chin hairs which of course blister. I will tell you, this combination arrested the progression of the infected hair follicles. I'm really happy with the treatment and I am now in week 3 with no new breakouts. I am really curious about getting a chemical peel, (I've experienced great results in the past, but did not have this hormonal acne at the time) so please let me know your thoughts. Thank you!

Where in the world is there “no acne at all”? I’ve lived in the US, Vietnam, Turkey, and the Netherlands and saw acne everywhere. The Netherlands was probably the place with the least acne and they consume tons of diary, my guess would be their good universal healthcare (Turkey and Vietnam have universal healthcare, but the quality goes down as the income level goes down). This is all anecdotal, but I’d like to know where you got the idea that other countries have “no acne at all”, I think what you mean is it’s not reported and studied in other places because acne is going to take a backseat to more serious illnesses.

I use the CeraVe resurfacing retinol and have really been enjoying it. I also have the vitamin c face oil from Naturium. I have not started this product yet because I only introduce new products in every one to two months so I can cut down on the variables that could be contributing to my break outs. Always love your videos and appreciate getting important info that we (unfortunately) usually do not get from our own dermatologists. Thank you!

Love your videos! I had a quick question about toners & sheet masks. I use the Hyrdro boost gel (extra dry) right after cleansing followed up with La Roche Posay moisturizer. I use the Mediheal PDF sheet mask twice a week, and I typically let my face dry after cleansing before I put it on (so I don’t apply any other products). The instructions advise you to use a toner prior to applying. I use the Dickinson’s witch hazel toner to remove my tinted sunscreen at night before cleansing. So - should I use a toner before applying a sheet mask at night? Or should I apply it straight to wet skin? Also, at what stage do I apply the hydro boost?

Hi Dr. Dray! I was prescribed aczone 7.5% (to use in the morning) and veltin (to use at night). I've also been following your oily skin care routine for a few weeks before starting the prescriptions and since I've started them, my skin has been flakey. However, I can't tell if it's dry skin or one of the lotions or medications peeling off, but I'm not sure how to solve the problem. I've tried putting on the medicine after the Hydro boost gel and before the cerave lotion, and also after both of those as the last step. I've also tried applying the medicines on alternate days. But either way, I'm still getting flakes. Do you have any suggestions on how to avoid the flaking? Thank you for your helpful videos!

This was a fantastic and informative Q and A! Since it's mentioned that this medicine works better for adult women, would you be able to post a video in the future about acne treatment for teen boys? We have a dermatologist but it's getting costly (with me barely finding work) plus the work hours and distance is not convenient at the moment 😭. We are trying to tame his disease and it's a losing battle :(

Is it crazy I’d rather have yellow skin from the mix of Benzoyl peroxide and aczone, then have acne? 🤔🤗😩

Thank you so much for this video! How should you use Aczone in the AM with moisturizer? Before? After? Does it matter? :) Either way, how long should you wait to apply either Aczone or moisturize after one another?
@monique78853 жыл бұрын
I use the aczone first and I apply spf immediately after. It’s been working for me So far

@@monique7885 do you find the adding moisturizer, makeup, really anything after the dapsone makes it pill up and look… yucky?
@monique78853 жыл бұрын
@@texastornado9918 I apply a pea sized amount. The only makeup I wear is mascara. I haven’t noticed peeling with it. At one point I did notice flaking on my skin. My derm told me to use a thicker moisturizer at night. I use a pea sized amount of cetaphil lotion (the super thick one for body) at night.

I'm using topical Aczone 7.5% once daily right now, so this video is well-timed! I have found that my sensitive, rosacea- and acne-prone skin tolerates it well with no stinging (which is more than I can say for some of my sunscreens!). It spreads pretty easily as well. I've been using it about 10 weeks. I haven't seen a lot of result with it yet, but I'm Fitzgerald phototype IV. I thought I would mention that for anyone considering this treatment! I had better results when I was taking it with oral doxycycline (brand name: Oracea), but I was so afraid of bacterial resistance I stopped the doxycycline and the acne's come back. I guess it's time to go back to the doctor and revisit treatment options. So depressing. Question: how long can one continue to use dapsome gel without issues? And do you have any thoughts on long-term use of doxycycline? What are some of the other treatments that are used in conjunction with dapsome gel--you mentioned a pill and a cream?
@WiseFamin6 жыл бұрын
Also, Aczone should not be applied to a wet face, is that correct?
@DrDrayzday6 жыл бұрын
seems to be fine long term; oral doxy should not be used longterm on a continuous baseis

Thanks! That's what I suspected as well.

Thank you so much for making this video, Dr. Dray! :) It was very helpful! So just to clarify, it's okay to use a salicylic acid facewash prior to applying aczone, correct? Also, do you have a video explaining why you decided to choose dermatology? As an aspiring med school student, I'd love to hear your story! :)

should you apply dapsone before or after moisturizer?
@Jezebel0665 жыл бұрын
I also want to know this! I usually apply before my moisturizer. But only bc it doesn’t irritate my skin at all & want the most benefit from the treatment. I apply things that irritate me after moisturizer & they don’t bother me then bc they’re diluted some.
