Hey everyone Rho here! Today we're discussing the infamous Inquisition! And the one faction within the Imperium not only outside their power, but also who inspires dread within their Inquisitors....

Guilliman has been told that he's going to have to tolerate them, to maintain government stability. I don't know if El'Jonson will. I don't think Rho is right. If the Adeptus Astartes turned on the Inquisition, they'd be in serious trouble. They'd have to kill off the Black Templars, but that wouldn't be a problem, with the entire weight of the Astartes brought down on them. Counter the Cult Imperialis with the Imperial Truth, modified to actually be true (accounting for the fact that, yes, supernatural beings do exist in the Warp, and they're dangerous), and tell the rest of the Imperium of the atrocities the out of control Inquisition does. That is a war the Inquisitors WILL LOSE.

As soon as I saw the title I knew that this was about the Adeptus Custodes. They are the one faction that literally only answer to the Emperor and will literally walk into the chamber of the Masters of the Inquisition and kill them all if it is necessary. Equally so the same power applies to the Sisters of Silence as their only loyalty is to the Emperor himself.

Even before our boy stepped back out of the cell, I'd known it was a Custodes from the moment the sound of a piledriver-like blast was heard. Honestly felt bad for the poor mortal soldiers who got in the way of a banana boy, even though I'm sure their deaths were mostly swift and painless. Some of the best soldiers an Inquisitor of all people could collect, and their lives and training were tossed aside like confetti simply because they stood in the way. Honestly, the fact that the Custodian reacted to a plasma pistol blast with as much concern as a normal space marine would react to a mortal human with a shiv was a flex on par with his laughing at the brandishing of the rosette. Imagine having kit so dripped out that a blast of plasma isn't worth even stepping out of the way for. The golden boys really just be built different

One has to wonder why such an elevated being saw the need to snuff out well-trained, elite (as far as mortals go) assets of the Imperium when they clearly posed no threat to him whatsoever. But I guess logic had to be tossed aside for the benefit of writing an epic scene.

There was a scene of an unarmoured Custodian being attacked by 2 Ogryns. One Ogryn held the Custodian from behind to restrain him; the Custodian literally shrugged off the bear hug and punched straight through the Ogryn's heart The other Ogryn ran away in fear. The Custodian picked up a small rock and threw it with a flick of his wrist. The Ogryn died from a headshot - by the rock

The Inquisition lost so many assets, so many Grey Knights, the Red Hunters were nearly extinct...The Wolves of Fenris didn't just win. That was only 1/3rd their number that did that. The Inquisition itself lives in FEAR of the Wolves now. All of their successor chapters carry the same attitude toward the Inquisition...any Inquisition ships that enter their home systems get destroyed on sight. They don't care, and the Inquisition knows if they try to sanction the Wolves again ever first founding chapter will immediately take up the Wolves' charge as well. The Grey Knights also changed how they operate due to that battle. They no longer kill anyone that sees them, they only kill those who are corrupted and have their own members trained to look for it...they no longer listen to Inquisitors claiming people are corrupted. The Wolves knowing they would lose? Losing isn't in their dictionary, and they tore the Inquisition apart and changed it's very foundation with the Months of Shame.

I mean to be honest in the end and the death you can see emperor was on verge of becomming a god himself by taking power from the warp then stopped cuz it would doom humanity, then later he beat horus while buffed up on worship power IIRC in the end he became a god anyway and hes powered by that worship even now. So inquision is helping power the emperor by ensuring heretics get purged and everyone believes in idk if Malcador would fault them for that. Now how extreme they are and that any innovation in mechanicus and wider imperium is viewed as heresy and how much they purge everyone that thinks differently he would probably hate but again its kinda necessary cuz chaos goes in that way more often than not

When you say the "Inquisition," are you saying that most inquisitions were and are corrupt? I ask because several novels I've read had inquisitors who were neutral or 'good' (in as far as characters are good in WH40k).

@@REDRAGON12345 unfortunately when authority starts flexing physical might to control a situation, often one of their greatest skills is grinding up the innocent with the guilty. Bit ironic if such a fate befalls the Inquisition. At what point do we stop feeling sorry for good people who stood by and watched the atrocities committed by those who bear the same standard? I'm certainly not claiming to have any answers in that regard. The only thing I know for sure is that this is 40k, so a lot of innocent people on every side of the conflict would get thoroughly boned.

Is description of the carnage is all the more impactful when you know who's actions of the one is being described before we're even told in the story. It just shows how daunting and overpoweringly absolute something really is when someone's absolute certainty in something else is not just shattered but unquestioningly removed when faced with it. 40k writing is just a step above, GOD DAMN!

After all the custodes murder sprees I’ve read through, I can’t help but wonder if throwing down your weapons and prostrating yourself before the guardians of the master of mankind and accepting your fate immediately, and swearing your faith in the god emperor would still see you dead. I loved the eisenhorn trilogy, more than I thought I would. But this series is worth a read, different pace and scope but does a good job of describing Terra and all its darkness.

I think I was more invested in the eisenhorn characters as it's more of a character driven story but the Vaults of Terra series is good, gives you a great Insight into living on Terra from a serf to a lord aswell as the inner workings of the inquisition. These are stationed inquisitors rather than the likes of eisenhorn scooting around the galaxy ha.

The custodies took out his best man and imprisoned him before waiting for the Inquisitor to try get him back. Also worth noting that the Custodies in question didn’t kill any of the retinue and only dislocated and knocked the living daylights out of them all.

Wish we'd get to see some short stories or novels of Inquisitors rooting out the heinous stuff going on in Navigator great houses. They act truly untouchable, but they're no Custodes...

They aren't untouchable the problem is the inquisitor has to be ABSOLUTLY CERTIAN that they can prove to the other Navis house that they were in the right before any open action. Because without the Navis houses there is no travel. You wouldn't have the standard shoot first ask questions later story, it might almost feel more like a pi novel. The Inquisitor investigating a Navis House would have to find proof beyond reproach through subterfuge and stealth, while being completely disavowed like some A-Team ass shit. We're talking about people even more internally deleted than even Eisenhorn, maybe never even officially made inquisitors. Then both the houses and the Inquisition would have plausible deniability both absolutely aware of who was who but being able to say "ahh it must have been one of the rival houses" while looking side eyes at each other. I agree this would be a kick ass series.

Even in that the wolfs managed to get near one. How did they get through all the Grey Knights? The grey Knights were not 100% on the side of the Inquisitor either. They were following orders they did not agree with. The GK let the SW get that close., it did stop the purge and allow more that were good at fighting chaos to be allowed to live following later Armageddons. The =][= did learn a lesson, but also sort revenge.

I sometimes like the inquisition but majority of the time would rather see the organization set upon by genuine forces loyal not only the emperor but also humanity. It’s hard telling how many loyal servants have turned traitor literally only because of the inquisition and their pettiness. Maybe start with a black Templars seeing a crusade against the inquisitors that have been wiping out the Celestial lions for instance. I know it won’t happen but dang I’d love to see a little karma come back towards those involved. There may be factions that genuinely help and protect humanity/imperium but the vast majority follow their own whims and need for power or advancing themselves over the imperium and humanity.

The Inquisition is the mother of all hydras. Kill an Inquisitor and now you have many more to deal with. They have the claimed authority to bring almost any force in the imperium against you. And how do you separate the "good" Inquisitors from the rest of them. Who do you decide to kill and spare. I am pretty sure Grimaldus and perhaps even Helbrect has thought about it, but even the black templars cannot muster the martial forces to take out the Inquisition. They have served their purpose but martial might will not snuff them out. However, perhaps changing the Imperial civilians' perception of them will, making the rosette not a symbol of fear or authority but as a object of ridicule. Without their recognised authority, they are nothing

The Adeptus Astartes is not loyal to the Inquisition, and sometimes fought against them. They also are allowed to not worship the Emperor, and would not hesitate to take action against an Inquisitor if they believed his actions were putting the Imperium in danger.

From the description of the custodian, it sounds to me that the inquisitor ran into a Shadowkeeper. I'm wondering if the fact that it was a custodian or the fact that this custodian was a Shadowkeeper was what gave the inquisitor that "well, I'm dead" moment?

Certainly the Inquisition is an interesting portion of the 40K universe and very much the imitation of our lives. Imagine an order that gains its powers purely from themselves, by themselves, and for themselves. Kinda like bureaucrats and politicos.

What's the one thig even a inquisitor dreads...their mandated performance review? The performance review process can trigger a lot of anxiety and dread for both employees and managers in the grim dark. This young lady has delusions of adequacy. Having only destroyed 5 worlds over the last decade. She didn't kill a citizen who accidentally bumped into her. Something you learn a common sign on heresy on day one,. With the wisdom of youth, and the energy of old age.

This entire scenario is silly. The Inquisitor could just talk to the Arbites and they would release his man without the need for breaking him out and violence. The Custodes could just show up and everyone would stop shooting and there would be no need for him to kill anyone. It's all silly.

15:18 I've never known someone to use so many words to say so little. Almost 20 minutes to say what everyone knew from the start: "Custodes, it's Custodes." You could have spent some of that time discussing the interactions and politics between the factions, but no, why do that when you can just pad out the run-time? 🤦🏽‍♂️
