Really impressed with the research the guy did, teaching himself about construction, etc. to the degree he could even notice when a nail was missing. I always laugh when people say they’re going to be their own project manager, how hard could it be. They find out quickly that a good project manager can be worth their weight in gold.

The traditional homes in the town shots look charming. These newbuilds are a bit of an eyesore tbh.

Yes, i'm sure when those "traditional homes" were first built the people there before them said the same thing! Nothing is new and everything is replaced, modern people hold on too much to the past instead of creating our own! Ancient people weren't afraid of progress.

When i hear about these budgets, makes me giddy :)) . I've worked in london for four years, i understand that a huge part of the budget goes on the labor since the wages are quite substantial in uk, but when i see the materials used in construction , the size of the things and time spent on building it, without being a 7 richter grade earthquake house . Just last year in bucharest, my home town, i had a client that build a house of 160 square meters per floor, and it has a basement , all concrete and ground floor and one top floor , all on the same square footage , triple glazed windows, all the modern glass and stainless steel balcony railways , an absolutely huge house and even the ''fence'' that goes all around the 600 square meter property is all concrete , purred all at once ...Absolutely crazy , but it all cost less that 200k euros

Like you said wages in Romania are probably a third of the UK at least. Checkout grand designs the street, beautiful homes have been built on a about £200k all in

I really dislike the contempt people on these shows have for construction workers. It's one thing to say that you can't afford to pay builders so you'll have to do the work yourself, and another to say it's silly to pay for something "so simple." I wonder how those floors and walls look up close

Looksike a nice house and they must like living there so fair play to the.. do wonder about the privacy issues when that beach is jam packed in the summer though and safety issues, can't leave the windows open overnight in the summer surely? As long as they like it, that's the most important thing! 😁

# 1 ) I am amazed that they got permission to build from the municipal council. Too close to the water, taking seashore land out of public use and the design does not fit in with the existing housing. # 2 ) It appeared to me that Jez was so focused on his ideal "perfect" home that he didn't see the anxiety it was causing Laura. He came across to me as being exceedingly selfish.

The interior design lets it down but I do like the retro coffee table and the red in the kitchen, although the kitchen is quite dark, not helped by the dark wood bench. Also, would you ever leave those bifold doors open on the beach in the UK? It would be freezing

hey ordered a high end kitchen which has a 50-70% add on by the shop they bought it. If they organised that themselves they would be able to hire labour for the finishes which is much thougher and less expensive.

@snoopygonewilder
@snoopygonewilder 2 жыл бұрын
Are they not worried about rising tides? Wont there be flooding issues, specifically in the bottom floor were the kitchen and office are? No matter how high they are on the beach, there can always be a storm that rises the tide and then they're screwed. I always thought those home by the water were built high off the ground to avoid flooding, on stilts and such. Hope they have good home insurance. I'm from Florida, we always worry about storms and flooding because of hurricane season, well me less because I'm from Central Florida, but still, that was just a bad design choice.

20 meters from the beach, climate warming, that's really risky. Will it still be there in 15 years or swallowed by the rising sea?
@peterbrown9662
@peterbrown9662 3 жыл бұрын
Angela don't mention Global Warming and rising sea levels, the seas are not rising with all the billions of gallons of water that flow into the seas and oceans every day of the year, every year, so where does all that water go, answer the same place that the water will go that melts from the North Pole, Mother Nature.

If climate warming or climate change was such a concern why are so many politicians and celebrities purchasing huge homes on beach fronts all over the world. We will always have the changing in the weather most of these alarmists are just activists selling people the big lie so they can brainwash the masses to become willing to get taxed even more for so called climate change solutions meanwhile politicians can't solve shit let alone fix the weather. Its just a bloody scam like most of what they've done to steal from us citizens. We all ready are taxed about sixty percent of our monies in taxes of one form or another. Were taxed on our earnings, were taxed on whatever we purchase, were taxed on sales tax, Home owner tax, any hobbies IE like hunting/ fishing/ even going into national parks were charged and have to get permission to go into national parks in the USA. Any thing we want to do we have to get a license for it. Which means pay more taxes. It never ends now they want us to pay carbon tax. When does it end. Never by the looks of things.

I'd feel so exposed and insecure living on a beach where lots of people walk by my house everyday. It feels different than being in a regular neighborhood with a private, fenced in backyard. It seems very unsafe especially with the accordion glass doors that open directly onto the beach that any stranger could easily walk through. If it were possible and not exorbitantly expensive I would have had one way windows that are mirrored on the outside so nobody can look inside and see you. They should have spent the money on the actual house and worry about the interior finishes later. Be a bit modest at first and gradually upgrade finishes and furnishings later.

two homes a five year old could have designed. They are obsessed with expensive finishes that the next owner won't even care about. The only winner here is the guy that sold them the property.

Why do people put the kitchen (one of the most expensive rooms in a home) in the basement level? What about when the water rises? People have done this in Sout Haven, Mi on Lake Michigan (one of the four US great lakes) and they have lost their homes and belongings to erosion and flooding etc. The "smartest" things people have done here is build them on pylons so that IF the water rises it does noi take out the ground floor.I do love the modern design and the windows and view.

I thought the same thing. We built a house at the base of the Rocky Mountain foothills and had a spectacular 360 degree view of the mountains and valley. Several years later a house was built below us that blocked 50% of the view. I was so upset about it because the view was the main reason we bought the lot. I had done my due diligence and talked to the city and got the impression that my view would never be blocked. We ended up moving because it was so upsetting to me. We now live where our mountain view will never be blocked (knock on wood!). What's funny is the people who bought the house rhapsodized about the beautiful view. They had no idea how spectacular it used to be. The day we moved we found out that the lot next to and across from us had been sold. When the houses were built they cut out 75% of the view which was sad for the people who bought our house. I would have been upset 24/7 if we had stayed.

Would of been better to have a slightly skinnier lounge so office could see the same view,even if window wasnt that big,all I see here is not much view unless you are relaxing on couch.down time is not always that much in today's working hour life.no I'm not jealous because I'd also hate hate random people walking past the windows,plus there is nothing they could do if these people decide to sunbathe in front of house area.

I hate this house, the arrogance that people have thinking they have a right to live on the beachfront. I'll bet my left shoe that when global warming starts eroding the beach away from the foundations, it will be local ratepayers who get to bail this couple out from their poor, selfish decisions. Beaches should be commons.
