Good day Sergei. I have operated all the equipment you mentioned for the past 38 yrs. As far as what you have learned loading and unloading equipment won’t make a difference. With the little knowledge you have you will have to start at the bottom. Your best bet after receiving some training is to apply with the city you live in or a surrounding town . They do just the basics and new guys can often complete the job and build knowledge as you go. The other is getting on way out in the middle of absolutely nowhere that nobody wants the work. You live in a good area as there is a lot of building going on.. Good luck

Go with the rock truck an employer will look at your experience driving a truck and take that into account compared to having no machine op experience.

Don’t overlook fork lift certifications which are inexpensive and perfect for part time. Also, skid steer training is valuable as well and does not break the bank! I believe there is training in Calgary for both. The safety training may be available online as well.

Not true about needing the 12 week course, plus by the time you’re done with 12 week course it will be dead if winter pretty much.. you will learn much much more on the job. Get the basics. Employers are looking for people to show up, be on time and be reliable. They’re not looking for perfection. You’ll be laughing about it 6 mo from now.

I would have gone with 4 machines, but I'd have to win a lottery. Pricing for training on one machine only is bad enough. The cost of training on 4 and 6 machines is unreal.

I’d be talking to real life employers about what they are looking for to bring you in. I’d take everything a student advisor, one whose salary is dependent on bringing students to the school, tells me with several grains of salt and healthy skeptiscm.

Well you have 17 years of experience driving and loading heavy equipment etc..I'd call smaller companies and see if you could get work with that course?

Just a thought ... with all your knowledge of heavy haul (loading, legislation etc), could there be a niche job somewhere with a large heavy haul company in the Calgary area or EVEN the Alberta Department of Transportation, where you could fit in either with the correct loading of RGNs (jeeps, stingers) or the inspection/regulation side of heavy haul trucking .. inspector/instructor?? Nothing like that on the DOTs' jobs board but you never know ... just a thought and good luck with whatever you find.
