The girl who accused Dream's friend saying "I was freshly 18" was the first sign that something was wrong about the whole thing lol. Her video seemed super rehearsed and everything but I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt that she was scared but no regular person would say "freshly 18" lol. The problem wasn't the face reveal, I think. The problem is he basically decided to stop doing the thing that made him famous, and subsequently not replace it with anything meaningful. The amount of content that he produced dropped off a cliff, and people stopped being interested. If Dream had kept making content regularly, the face reveal would have just been a controversial blip that everybody forgot about in a few months. The fact that he just stopped doing what he was famous for and tried to freaking make music is what hurt his career so badly. Frankly, he could still make it back, I think, if he returned to what made him big in the first place. The problem is entirely self inflicted.

Nah, it wasn't him showing his face that's the issue, it's definitely the fact that he did a face reveal and made it a whole thing. It's weird and creepy and keeps peoples mind stuck on your face. "Peekaboo, look it's me, a HUMAN, hehehehe" and his eyes are all wide and IDK man it's weird. Like yea, we know dude... stop being fucking weird about it. It also makes being in a game and not showing your face a weird thing when in reality it isn't, making this face reveal some BIG THING, it just gives everyone a bad vibe. It's pretty unhinged tbh. Like Asmon said, it's attention seeking too. If he had just revealed his face without announcing it or giving a fuck, like it's just another day without addressing it, nobody would have gave a fuck. Some parasocial weirdos would have talked about it for a couple weeks and people would have stopped hearing or thinking about it. It's almost as if he was hiding and this reveal thing was a projection of his guilt combo'd with his awkwardness that he had which was his reason for wearing it. Thing about being awkward, stop paying attention to it and it stops mattering. Still exists, just doesn't count for anything, no one gives a shit.

Asmon didn't really say that kids wanna watch youtubers that are their age, but they don't want to watch mature, bearded men. When watching Smosh as a kid I remember thinking ''they are pretty much the same as me, just a few years older'' but today Smosh looks like a couple of hipsters that you would see enter a LA coffeeshop with their baby carried in their baby backpack, and I don't think I would have watched them as a kid. kids always want to look up to and hang out with people older than them. Main reason why most of the Heroes in fiction have been in their 20-30's albeit not many older than forty, while the teen and child heroes and characters usually had a place in the roster but were often seen as annoying or weren't as popular, even though children and teenagers were the main audience. Everyone from that time talk about cheetara, liono, etc, but I don't here many people saying Wiley Kat and Wiley Kit were their favorite characters in thunder cats. Then you can say "well that's fiction that's different idiot." But same is pretty true from every hobby/interest that was popular, skateboarding, football, basketball, music, outside of the age of boy bands, the "stars" were always around 20's to 30's and the kids flocked to them. I think the main takeaway is that the age limit is "younger than my parents, but older than myself, and successful."

The thing is Asmon isn't wrong though. Kids will watch kid content of course not EVERY Child but when I was a kid I watched cartoons and shows around my age group. Teenagers would watch anime, sports and mtv. The internet broadened content but still catered to every age group. Kids watch pewdiepie because of his exaggerations how he for lack of a better term acts like a clown aka he's an entertainer and kids eat that up. Rooster Teeth and Machinima was essentially what flash was for millennial kids/teenagers. Its a two way thing, your age and how relevant the content is.

The whole argument that kids want to watch people around their age is totally wrong just based on how we all grew up. Even in the minecraft community, SkyDoesMinecraft, Deadlox, DanTDM, Yogscast, all of them were way older. Rhett and Link, Smosh, you can keep giving all these examples of content creators that were extremely older than what we were but we watched them. Tobuscus, Aviator Gaming and his gang, I can keep giving a fuck ton of examples of 20 somethings who a bunch of early to mid teens watched. And based on that argument alone, they should be relating to someone younger.

However it's not black and white, most people will seek role models and feel more comfortable with people around their age group. It's primarily neurodivergent children, adolescents and young adults that break this cycle as they have uneven levels of milestone development.

Ok this is legitematly so stupid. SunnyV is treating it as if Dream is somehow trying desperatly to recapture the glory days and get back to the old numbers but failing to do so yet for me it is pretty clear that the guy at this point just moved on from doing content and isnt really involved with it anymore. As Asmon mentioned last time he streamed half a year ago and within the last year he posted on youtube only 4 times. I dont know shit about Dream and I never watched his content but it seems that he grinded like crazy for a few years he managed to hit the perfect wave he made milions from that and is set for life and now he is done with it and moved on to other things in his life. I honestly feel like SunnyV is so obsessed with grinding youtube and getting the most views possible that he cant compute how anyone would ever willingly just quit grinding youtube 24/7 to maybe live their life instead or focus on other ventures. For SunnyV the only explanation why anyone might have fallen off is either because they did something bad and are a bad person or because they are a failure and just cant get the views anymore. He never considers that a dude with over 3bilions views just might not care anymore about getting views. SunnyV needs to chill the fck out. There is more to life than youtube clicks

It's kinda nice to see Asmon fly into a rage so quickly, because it's an acknowledgement of how skewed his perception of the world is, and he doesn't like it being challenged. Almost everyone around my age in high school watched Markiplier, jacksepticeye, PewDiePie, etc. All young adults to middle-aged men at the time, that were at least 5-8 years older than us. KZbin and TV programs are an entirely different medium and if Asmon can't accept that, he's the one living in a daydream.

In 2010 those people were like 18-22 years old at most so the age difference there is even more extreme unless you were an infant (if I'm being charitable) than a 20 year old watching asmon today. 5:00 WRONG. Just because you feel that way, it doesn't mean that is the facts or whatever. Young people tend to look up ( maybe not to the really old, like over 50 or so ) since they want to be seen as 'grown ups' themselves. Common Asmond, this is basic societal behaviour/psychology. Like, whereever did you get that insane idea? Yeah, when they're on groups or looking for one, teens/kids do search for the same age people but that doesn't translate to the media they consume... But other than that, the advice he gives at the end is really good and something upcoming streamers/KZbinrs should keep in mind.
@sinep80088 ай бұрын
He's right that it's easier for kids to relate with one another. But he's wrong that kids want to watch other kids. Kids are very simple when it comes to consuming content. If it makes them laugh, they will most likely watch it regardless if it's a 25 to 30-year-old making that content.
@Yayeet8608 ай бұрын
He’s absolutely correct by the way lol
@ALookInto5878 ай бұрын
Well it isn’t particularly wrong, though it obviously does not apply to everyone. But most kids do want to see „themselves“ in these scenarios of doing something cool. That is a fact for most kids. It is also a fact though that most kids would also want to imagine being a strong young man/ woman, but that is not them trying to „relate“, but something they then „aspire“ to be. For example,o ver here in Germany, one of the first KZbinrs any of us ever watched 12 years ago was Gronkh who was already in his fourties at the time (I think). Which many people still consider their role model. So while it of course doesn’t apply to every single person, it is the common rule for kids, as it is the case for most of them. So no, he is not really wrong here and neither are you. It‘s just that both is the case, though you may have gotten „admiration“ and „relating“ mixed up here, which is understandable.

The point about kids watching people their age is ludicrous when the Paul brothers had super young children audiences when they were mid 20s almost 30 now. When i was a kid my favorite KZbinr was Pewdiepie who is 10 years older than me. There is a huge difference between gray hair and an adult. Like having such a hardcore stance telling people to shut the fuck up and they are delusional is the issue. Broadly I think what Asmon is saying is true but like most kids don't watch kids they watch young adults in their early 20s.

03:43 I never stopped enjoying his Manhunt videos, he just started uploading them more and more infrequently. Maybe because of mental health, maybe because he is happy where he is and has enough money. Regardless, if I was his friend I wouldn't want him to live by the numbers, but by what makes him happy. If that means uploading 1 video every few months or every year, and he is financially sustainable in doing that, I would be all for it. As a fan I honestly feel the same way. I want people to be happy, not to be subservient to me. His content wouldn't make me happy if I knew it was motivated by his unhappiness, rather than his happiness, if that makes sense. Same thing for all other content that I like to engage with. 16 minutes in and I'm not getting the reason why we should hate him? He made a bad decision and regretted that, feeling insecure, which is totally relatable. He isn't a good singer but likes to sing regardless, that's most people who like Karaoke, also relatable. Why are we laughing about that, exactly? This is kinda making me second hand depressed, to be honest. If people have weaknesses and are feeling insecure, we should be respectful and understanding, not make fun of them and confront them with their faults every time we get the opportunity and in the most harmful and impactful way possible. SunnyV2 seems almost gleeful as he talks about the ruin of Dream's future career, why is that? I'm open to more facts later in the video about how Dream is some evil monster that we should hate and that deserves this treatment, so far I'm not convinced. Around 27 minutes Asmon is talking about the "attention seeking behavior". I'm assuming this is about the face un-reveal thing that happened. I get his logic here, why people would feel that's distasteful and inauthentic. Personally, I didn't interpret it as content-driven, but rather personally-driven. I'm not sure where but I noticed certain comments here and there talking about how Dream is ugly or fat. I didn't watch the initial face reveal because I wasnt really interested in that, but since I didn't come from a cynical but a more human place, I figured the un-reveal was motivated more by sadness and maybe disillusionment at the sort of feedback that he had gotten since that time. I don't follow any of Dream's other activity outside of KZbin, so I have no idea how accurate that is. 34:40 Okay this kind of sucks. Maybe the content has dried up because stupid internet drama like this has driven Dream and his friends apart from one another? Goes to show the importance of principles. I think going back and forth like this is going to lose you a lot of the momentum that you need to continue through times like that. If you truly didn't do anything wrong, and you truly didn't see your friend do anything wrong, you should absolutely not apologize, or turn the backs on each other.

I didn't know who Dream was until I saw jokes about him on Urban Rescue Ranch. I've seen the Daft Punk performers without their masks, and this is how I see it. You CAN put the mask back on after a face reveal. You may think you can't, but you can. It's not the same as the cat being out of the bag. It's like wearing a hard hat, or a badge; get to work, wear your hat, and get the job done.
