Allow me to say, even as a huge Megadeth fan I cannot defend that solo. I was brought back here after seeing Dave fuck up with the San Diego orchestra. I seriously don't understand how anyone can defend this. I love Dave's music (at least up to Endgame) and I love his style, but this solo was really really bad and no matter how big of a fan you are of Dave, you should not be able to defend that. You can say it's in his style, but it's a pretty shitty style if it sounds like nothing but a string of guitar hero fuck up noises.

He plays about half but some are done by whatever Lead guitarist he has in the band that time there's tend to be more complex. He is a good player but as I said the solo for this song like many Dimebag solo's uses a Whammy Bar for parts of it. Dave isn't using a guitar with one so he improvises part of it since it would be impossible to do it exactly right with out one. I didn't say Dave can't do complex solo's. Heck he is one of my bigger influences as a guitar player myself (of 20 years).

I agree that this was not the best example of Daves playing, but you gotta remember that he is the only guest guitarist on this song. Perhaps his monitor was inaudible but he didn't get a chance to signal to the sound engineer. There are many reasons that his playing wasn't up to usual standard. It doesn't matter anyway, it't fucking DT, Russell Allen, BCB and Mustaine all on stage doing a truly incredible song. The point was that this shit happened and the world is a more beautiful place because of it. Plus the bromance between LaBrie and Allen and Rudess' childish grin is awesome.

I love Dave Mustaine but he can't play any leads expect his own stuff. A brilliant musician and guitar player but can't solo for shit. Stop with the "I want to see you playing it better than him" or "he wasn't ready for this so he improvised" crap, yeah he's an idol but he blew it here big time. With all due respect, it was a tribute for Dimebag and he totally half assed it. Even if is an improvisation, he could have at least tried to play it on a scale that fits the rhythm guitar, he should know a thing or two about this kind of stuff being a musician for more than 20 years at the time. Honestly I think that any average guitar player on KZbin could have done it better than he did here.
