Thank you for sharing! I use Pomodoro for 1. Tasks I hate and therefore am otherwise inclined to put off (indefinitely!) 2. Tasks I'm afraid of -- (performance anxiety) practicing a speech, writing an important article... 3. Tasks which involves physical AND emotional energy (decluttering, big changes, dealing with the past). Pomodoro was never meant to be used all day. And I find it helps counteract the tendency to become so absorbed in a task that I forget everything else and burn up all my physical and mental resources on it. When I don't want to stop because I'm "on a roll" is exactly WHEN I need to listen to the pomodoro timer and take that break. Then I'm much more productive, I can keep going longer, and I'm not burned out the next day.

I just used this app for my first week of college online. The teachers decided to take 100% of my time so I used it for studying exclusively. I am very pleased with the results and have some observations. I find whenever I pause a break because I want to finish something first, it puts me just over the edge and I actually find myself too mentally exhausted and unwilling to work when the next work period begins. Sticking to the time is crucial, at least for me. I have yet to try it with other tasks as my school work has been the focus while piano and bass playing are saved for my breaks. I plan on trying out how it is with music, gaming, and typing when I get the chance. Pomodoro definitely doesn’t apply to exercise. The way the body and mind work are very different so, whenever California decides it’s not gonna be on fire again, Pomodoro will be taking a back seat for my runs. I really enjoyed this video and really like that desk treadmill setup. Great stuff

do you continue with the technique to this day?

You've done an awesome job with this video, Scott. I watched it to the end. You've inspired me to try out the Pomodoro technique as well, but will be selective in when I use it. Btw, your fitness level is also inspiring! That stand-up desk is super cool...hehe

@@Dreamlet do you have a video on how to build that standup desk, or...did I see a laptop shelf on your treadmill?

@@singingway I kinda just put a table on another table and then one of those laptop platforms above the smaller table.

Tried out the app but got bored really quickly.. WIsh there was some kind of gamification with this :(
@Dreamlet4 жыл бұрын
you can try focusbyte, it's pretty good for encouraging you not to use your phone during the timer and has a gamified element.

@@Dreamlet Thank you! I've been using it for a couple hours now and I love it! Crazy how much an app can make me more productive. I've gotten more work done today than this whole month combined. Probably because I'm a gamer at heart :) You rock dude!

One way to make it both playful and to help you learn more about your own process, in the pomodoro book, is to make an estimate on every task as to how many pomodoros it's going to take to complete it. I discovered my habit is to wildly underestimate the amount of time a task takes!

Interesting, but you used the word "sporadic" wrong. It has nothing to do with mixed results. Look it up. Otherwise, good info.
