"Dreamshield is Useless. It's never in the right spot!"

It's taken literal months, several re-recordings and tons of footage but it's finally done! I am not here to convince you that this charm is God-Tier, but I've tried to play around with it in as many places as I could think of where it might be useful. Thanks to Mulhima for teaching me how to use the Speedrun QoL mod to get the Steel Soul splash screen.

Not gonna lie, Dreamshield was one of the main reasons why I was able to beat Radiant Nosk without smashing my keyboard in half

Ok I understand that people had different play styles and all that and dream shield fits with domed play style but radiant nosk of all bosses, something like soul tyrant or mantis lords is what k expected this comment section to be filled with as dream shield can help a lot, but nosk is not difficult to dodge even with slow reaction times,

When I was relatively new to the game I couldn't beat broken vessel and I equipped this charm and as I died it did one last hit of damage and I won. Since then I respect this charm a lot more

@@enderdrane more like the dreamshield can deal the death blow to an enemy even when the Knight is in their death animation. That’s how I defeated Nosk, the fiend killed me, but while my shade was getting out my dreamshield hit Nosk one more time and killed it. After I respawned and returned to the boss room Nosk was nowhere to be found and I could proceed to the back room beyond the boss room.

I didn’t realize how much it could delete. Like I thought there were a few boss projectiles it didn’t work on Anyways, it is a great job for new players who aren’t very confident in their movement or feel overwhelmed by certain fights/areas. The 2 things that stop it from being an amazing charm is the cost (3 notches feels way to high) and the spinning. If it was just a 180 degree arc it would be fine but the fact that it’s 360 means that it won’t be very useful for about 50% of the time. I feel like a reduction in cost or a 180 arc would make this charm significantly better. Edit: although the 180 degree arc may make it too good since it’s a nearly guaranteed form of protection. So maybe reducing the cost from 3 to 2 would be better

There's other issues with it though, centered around it attacking things without you actually wanting it to. For example it can hit ooma that you were just gonna slip by, causing you to risk a 2 mask hit. It can also deprive you of needed soul if you let it kill an enemy you wanted to get it from. Sometimes it's extra damage when you need it, but it makes it harder to maintain control of your situations. Honestly I feel like I'd need it to be a one notch charm before I started using it. I mean, are you gonna say it's more useful than grubsong? Especially for newer players!

It would not be a guaranteed form of protection as the coverage of the shield is reduced by 50% if it only covers half the angle

I think the rotating is actually good for newer players, as it provides a learning mechanism where at first sometimes stuff just gets blocked, but over time they learn to assume the rotation of the shield to block attacks giving extra practice with projectile path/pattern prediction.

I actually love dreamshield and use it quite frequently, to the point that it's becoming a bit of a problem in randomizers, because any time I wanna do any bouncing on enemies or my shade to sequence break, I have to remove it. My beloved grubsong and weaversong combo has the same issue.

I think the real issue is that it's visibly inconsistent, it's just a better carefree melody but because you can see the shield it feels worse to use. Both have a chance to block attacks, the chance for both is about 25% if you're standing still, but dreamshield can block far more if used well. But since the player doesn't feel in control players can only hate using it. Maybe if it followed your swing direction, didn't deal damage, and broke half a second after being hit (to allow it to block multiple projectiles and projectile streams) it would be useable since then the player would feel in control.

After over 800 hours of playing this game I never once knew that Dreamshield rotated more quickly when you're focusing soul. Too bad its attack radius doesn't also expand.

I think one of the reasons it is so good in this specific video is due to your movement and acouting for the dream shield and using it to your advantage this movement could be quiet tricky for new players but I think you did a great job displaying dreamsheilds potential.

I used the dream shield for most of my playthrough, I’m pretty lucky and ended up learning its movement pretty well and it blocked a LOT of attacks for me, that’s also why I use carefree melody. The only reason I stopped wearing it was to do the pantheons because it’s not as good in back to back boss fights as walking around and I changed my entire charm setup for them

Ah, I've been waiting for this one. Underrated charm in my opinion. It's functionnally a better version of sharp shadow, since it also allows you to block or even delete many projectiles. Edit: Oh wow, even I didn't know that it could block those suicidal explosive flies things.

@@nightmareheart1 Because when you're dashing throught an enemy, your dreamshield will do damage, like for sharp shadow, but it will also do all of these other things. And it comes without the absolutely awful sound effect of sharp shadow, so that's a big plus in my opinion.

Happy to finally see some appreciation for Dream Shield. I've always been of the opinion that it's a fine utility charm, it's biggest drawback is that you can only put it to good use if the game allows you to move at your own pace. If you're put under constant pressure and have to react and adapt on a whim, you won't get enough opportunities to properly position or move with the Shield in mind. This is why it's great for say, single boomerang mantises or Markoth, but god awful for agressive and volatile encounters like Grimm

while it can help newer players and I like the charm, the damage ends up being less than strength once you're more skilled since you can swing more than once per it's cooldown, and the blocking things can often have you need to move for the shield to be in place, so unless you're good with the shield, it's not worth it. Also, getting too used to blocking projectiles could be the downfall for some, since some projectiles pierce through it, for example dream warrior projectiles and the radiance orbs after a little bit. I'm probably pointing out things everyone reading this comment already knew, but I felt like writing it so there.

Now that I think about it, dream shield could be used to heal in phase 2 soul master. In other cases, I feel like the problem is that people need to work _with_ the dream shield to maneuver it in a place to block stuff.

as Someone who had most trouble during the Mantis lords with the projectiles and not their melee attacks this charm really helped out. Especially since focusing with it makes it spin faster. allowing you to adjust its position slightly

My favorite "meme" charm. Pretty useful in colo in general. When your nail is fully upgraded it can almost one shot some enemies. Its position isn't that big problem as well since colo dudes can charge at you from multiple directions

I LOVED the dream shield, used it excessively after obtaining it. The amount of projectiles and small mobs it blasted while my attention was elsewhere is staggering. And as I played a bit more defensive/evasively, this paired with a companion (more often Grimchild or Weavers) worked great for me at getting damage in where I was too shy to strike.

For nkg, dreamshield is a godsend. It does chip damage, it pairs with unbreakable strength, (another REALLY good charm for this fight), blocks bats, blocks fireballs, and if you equip it, it does about 50% of nkg's health if you fight normally

Rework ideas 1. While charging a nail art the shield rotates and recovers faster 2. The shield locks on to the last enemy the knight used the dream nail, until it disappears from the screen, either by dying, teleporting or just moving off screen 3. The shield is manually rotetable with the camera controls (right spins it clockwise and left spins it anticlockwise) 4. The shield quickly appears in the direction the knight attacks, but is otherwise complitely absent

I think the biggest benefit to the dreamshield is that it can really improve confidence in new players as some of the strain of dodging and attacking at the same time is alleviated, I used it for a few fights on my first time playing through and it really helped in some sections

the main thing about Dreamshield is that it does passive damage, meaning as a noob, I can focus on dodging and healing while my damage output is mostly handling itself.

PIN PLZ!! As a top tier dreamshield user here's a guide for beginners: 1.- When in fights, find a pattern where the shield is above your head when the enemy atacks, and sideways when you do. But if the enemy is above you (like an aspid) approach with the shield pointing upwards. a - The majority of projectiles spawn above the knight's head b - If the mob attacks you with something you can't block (for example, its body, nail strikes, thorns, hornet with her needle throws, elder hu pancakes, etc) there's no point in attempting to block it, usually, you dodge and then blow a hit. While you dodge, the dreamshield has time to travel to a horizontal position, giving you a chance to double hit in your next attack. c - If you are receiving projectiles from above and the enemy is also airborne, approach it with the shield covering your head, this way you block and deal damage at the same time. 2.- dOn't aBuse *dReaMshIELD* aS a *shEild* a - If you keep moving aimlessly expecting the charm to block everything... my boy, you are not a Panzer with 40cm of oniric armor, the shield is single use AND your last resort, *you are not a tank.* b - If you abuse it as a shield (or as a weapon, if you don't know what are you doing), you are going to be 70% of the time without protection, remember it needs time to respawn. c - Don't make it your absolute savior, if you get used to go towards projectiles instead of even attempting to dodge them AND the dreamshield is in the opposite side, you are going to take a lot of damage *really fast.* 3.- If it fails, don't flee like a madman a - If the shield fails to block an enemy attack, don't focus in getting out of there, if you panic, you are going to take more damage. Maybe you have seen or experienced this: Something hits you and you get nervous, you try to escape but on the way you only take more damage because you are left vulnerable by only looking at your life bar instead of what is hitting you. 4.- Don't abuse it like a weapon a - If you hit the enemy BEFORE they make their attack, you are left unprotected for quite a long time, which will likely cost you one or two masks. Just double hit when you can see a clear time window. SUMMARY: ATTACK : SHIELD SIDEWAYS DODGE : SHIELD UPWARDS *DO:* Keep the shield as your last line of defense Learn to dodge and read different types of projectiles or physics, you may not need to use your shield for everything Seek for a cycle of these stages _dodge-hit-respawn_ If the enemy is above you, attack and block with the shield upwards *DONT:* Panic or tilt when your shield fails to block something Abuse it in any way, otherwise, you'll have less shield per shield Use the shield as a substitute for dodging

I think that a lot of people tend to categorise dreamshield for its usefulness with bosses or aiding exploration. I’ve found dreamshield to be a favourite of mine in things such as beastiary grinding, where it provides a nice amount of passive and easy damage, while also dealing with environmental things I don’t want to tussle with myself!

I didnt like Deam shield in my first game, but in the Coliseum of Fools i came to love it and now in my third game is one of my absolute favorites. With shadow dash if you use it correctly you have an acceptable alternative to Sharp Shadow.

Dreamshield allowed me to beat Nighmare Grimm as it did a decent chunk of damage while I wash dashing away from/through Grimm. I mean, you're supposed to hit him but I spent a lot of time just surviving and the Dreamshield took care of the damage. XD

Idk what people are on about when hating on it, hitting things with it is soooooo satisfying. And it isn't supposed to block *everything* all the time, it's just a supplement.

I actually used it for P3* P4 and P5*. *(swapped out for soul eater while facing uumuu, there, I can guarantee it will always be in the wrong spot) I use ONLY Nail Arts, so, unlike many other players, I have plenty of notches to work with. If I remember correctly, my build for pantheons was - Nailmaster's glory, dreamshield, dream wielder, quick focus, unn and grubsong. I think the point is not to expect it to do something, but to play normally and then watch it save you when you could not dodge.

in my radiant oblobles fight (one of the worst radiant fights) i was starting to struggle so i messed around with charms and dreamshield is SO GOOD! if you are struggling on obblobles use dreamshield.

This video is well made and does show points in favour of this charm But this thing you are moving away from most enemies’ attacks just to show it can deflect them. You might just as well dodge them entirely. Plus, the Colosseum pathway was a good example of how much someone might need to wait to use the Dreamshield to block enemy hits. And same with damage, we need to move away and wait for it to come to the right spot. When it does, most of the time the enemy has moved away It’s just too slow to be used in most practical situations

Well that is the dilemma with this charm, you need to manipulate the shield in most cases and since this IS a showcase on what this charm can and cannot deflect/absorb, there isn't always another way to do it. You need to keep in mind what the purpose of the video is, dodging out of the way won't show what the shield can do. If I showed up to a motorcycle showcase with a car, arguing that it was better because it had a roof then that is true, but it's not the intention of the showcase.

Something that I was wondering while watching this is if dreamshield would be good if it only faced directly behind you. That way it could be more useable and consistent than it is right now, but it would still require some skill to turn around to block stuff

Honestly this thing saved my bacon on multiple occasions. It's not bad per say, but you do need to play around it and if used correctly it can extend your attack range by a decent amount. If I remember correctly the shield actually moves out slightly further for half a second when you swing your nail although you can't see it very well in this video. It also spins much faster and gets closer when your healing. It's fantastic for bosses that shoot a lot of projectiles or try to drop a bunch of crap on your head like Grim and False Knight. Yeah it's not going to block all attacks due to it's spin, but it will block enough and give you some breathing room. Any projectiles that hit it are projectiles you don't have to dodge. Just avoid using it in Fog Canyon...that's a good way to accidently die by jelly fish I found out.

Looks super cool and sounds nice, but only is really useful for helping new players get in that extra damage. Its use on the crystal bugs was cool though. I also think that the point of the dreamshield is to force you to move slightly to position it. Makes the gameplay more engaging too. Then again, it is only in position for approximately half the time, which is still a pretty band consistency.

The problem with dreamshield is most of the time you have to position yourself in the right place or wait for the dreamshield to move to the projectiles, and there are better options like shaman stone, quick focus, quick slash and mark of pride

I may be biased because I'm just a noob on his first playtrough, but I love the Dream shield. I don't know if it's sheer luck or I am secretly attuned to the shield, but it always happens to be exactly where I need it. Maybe it's because I don't play around it, but I let it play around me.

When grinding for geo I’ve found that dreamshield and gathoering swarm together are really good, because dreamshield helps you deal damage more safely, but the geo tends to go everywhere, so I use gathering swarm to negate that

It would be cool if the shield acted like Baldur Shell while healing if you have Dream Wielder equipped, and if you get hit in that state the shield breaks for like 10 seconds

Dreamshield isn't my go to charm but it's honestly pretty good, there are a few fights that I even prefer it on.

I like DreamShield in Crystal Peaks because it will block lasers and makes platforming a little easier. I don't use it very often because the extra movement makes it hard to focus (for me). Also, I explored some of Deepnest before leveling up and I had crappy gear... I don't recommend it. I had a rough time.

I like using dreamshield and sharp shadow so I can do 2x nail damage on bosses, because dreamshield hits most bosses (that aren’t broken vessel or hornet)
