Another superb and frank video. I've been lucky enough to have had a couple of P-51 flights and must say that the sound is rather lacking in this rendition. It was loud, very loud, and even with a headset on, just bearable. To think that those young lads went all the way to Berlin and back with just a cloth headset on!
@Dreamsofwings2 жыл бұрын
Yes the sound at the moment is a huge let down. Part of the thrill of warbirds is that raw power that you can feel (in the real thing or if you have a buttkicker I suppose) but also the sound that helps create that experience for us simmers. Must have been fantastic going up in one Martin. What an experience! It is certainly incredible to think how much time those young pilots spent in these kind of environments.

Looks great in VR too. The engine sounds a bit weird indeed. Seems to be AH weakness with other products as well. Might needs a bit of tweaking here and there, but overall I think it is a fantastic add-on. No doubt AH will update it over time. Nice to have a good P-51D in MSFS.

If they fix the sound and address the slow speed handling, I'll buy it. The 3D modeling work is great, and dynamics for MSFS are good (and it has a GPS!). Take off handling was decent and AH have clearly done some work there. Slow speed handling in the stall and in the pattern needs work. Nice video, unfortunately I never succed to take off. It seems she cannot pick up enough speed and, if I manage somehow to be airborn, immediately the left wing goes down and the plane overturn and crash. I followed your procedure and reccomendation and I realize is not like take off with C172 , but I manage to fly the spitfire which is not easy either to take off. I reinstalled the plane, just in case it was bugged, but still no success. If I want to fly a Mustang I have to use the very poor realistic Reno racer.

@@eziomarcori4158 Many thanks, I must confess I’ve not flown it in a long time but I think latest version is meant to be more realistic. Lovely review, the second one I've found and you both mentioned the sounds ... I'm slowly reinstalling all my old lovelies in shiny new P3D5 and rediscovering the joys of accurate flight and ground models, real weather, properly study level warbirds and tubeliners, your Spitfire Academy series, fsuipc, and OMG the fps I get running P3D on a pc that was built to be good at MSFS ....... I don't think I'll be grabbing this one until the sound is upgraded but I will certainly move the A2A P51 up my install list :) If the plane is so cold and dark that the flaps and gear doors droop should you be able to change the prop pitch ? And how do you get on with stopping it, I thought you needed hefty back stick to safely brake a taildragger but that locks the tailwheel ?
@Dreamsofwings2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks! Yes had backstick pressure on for part of the landing but although limited control it felt ok
@jameskirklandfrew92782 жыл бұрын
Hello folks, I'm sure that locking the tailwheel stops it from castoring and links it with the rudder meaning rudder input will help steer the act during take off and landing. Is this correct ?
@Dreamsofwings2 жыл бұрын
No in this msfs version locking the tailwheel stops you steering with it, ie stuck central. In the A2A p3d version, which is realistic, locking it allows 6 degrees of steering either side.
@ceegnz2 жыл бұрын
First, the rudder always steers the plane. If you don't have air moving across the tail from speed / the propeller it won't actually do anything, but it will be trying. Unlocking the tailwheel means you can also turn the plane with the tailwheel, locking it means you can only steer with the rudder. The faster you're going the more 'entertaining' steering with the tailwheel will be. I only bought this a couple of minutes ago so can't comment specifically on this plane yet but I will say that the Milviz Corsair, which is well modelled, is almost uncontrollable during the takeoff or landing rolls with the tailwheel on the ground and unlocked. To get up with any chance of success you need to line up, lock the tailwheel, then get the tail up as fast as possible, and to land them you must land with the tailwheel locked then unlock it once the tailwheel is down and the plane has slowed down a lot. Otherwise you'll be taking off on a 45 degree angle to the runway :) and groundlooping every landing. I'll also say locking and unlocking the wheel with the stick is great, it's not possible to do it in the vc with a mouse because you have to choose between looking at the knob / looking where you're going.

Exactly! Locking definitely helps

Being able to remove the cowling to see engine and gun loads is ok, but it seems a little time could have been spent by the developers on modeling the engine systems so it is not so much an arcade plane. I know the younger crowd likes to just jump in and fly. But as for immersion during flight, having to closely monitor the T's and P's of the engine is, by far, much more immersive than removable panels while one is on the ground. I am hesitant to purchase this at this time. I enjoy simulating flight. The Flying Iron Spitfire is top on my list as far as War Birds go. If I do end up purchasing this P-51, I will certainly alias the sounds of the Merlin engine in the Spitfire over to this P-51. A good video.
