Humans are animals, and so are sharks. The real issue is that Totems aren’t animals. I always headcannoned Totems/Totemic beings in DSMP are artificial lifeforms created by players or illagers, similar to Golems but with sapience. Kinda like comparing a basic computer to a self-aware AI. Even if you don’t follow this, I’m pretty sure Totems are made of metal (gold) and emeralds, and animals are a carbon-based lifeform. A gold/crystalline lifeform like a Totem would not be classified in the Kingdom of Animalia. Actually they wouldn’t even be in the Domain of Eukarya (eukaryotic cell-based) since I don’t think Totems even have cells.

On a phillosophical level I honestly think that theres like four or five main things that set humans apart from animals. Besides like the obvious bigger brain, and aposeable thumb stuff Foosh and chat mentioned. (My long ass opinion/think piece/list below:) 1. Consent. We're able to understand, follow, and communicate permission. Which ties into- 2. Self restraint. A human is able to understand that eating an entire plate of cookies is bad for them, even though they want to- They look into the possible repercussions of their actions, see an unpleasant outcome, so they limit what they eat. Meanwhile, a goldfish would literally eat until it died, or a dog would make itself sick trying to do the same. There's no other animal that would willingly decrease their food intake for anything other than already feeling ill. 3- We're able to create and interpret- Art like architexture, textiles, detailed paintings, stories passed down from person to person generation to generation- scarrification to our skin. Entire universes in our heads that even humans as young as two years old are capable of. Fuck, even the idea of currency is something so opposite from the animal kingdom, it's kinda hilarious. Medicine... Machines... all of it. We look at a puzzle, and want to solve it. 4- Shame and guilt. For some reason, clothes to people became less of a "I need to keep warm" or "This keeps the sun from burning me" type of deal, and now it's considered completely indecent to be seen without them. We /care/ how /others/ percieve us because we're self-aware. No other creature on this planet has that sort of emotional reaction that's completely outside of camoflauge or need to mate. No horse wonders if it's breath stinks, or a pig why it's a little too breezy down there. 5- Empathy. Even the cruelest of human beings, or those who are sadly chemically not allowed to feel this connection- still form connection. Whether it's to their own offspring, or an entirely different species. We look at a wounded animal and can feel it's pain- have the urge to help it in any way we can, even to our own detriment. We will give up needed resources to take care of a different species- not because it benefits us, we just feel compelled to. Some humans even form empathic bonds with inanimate objects or concepts. We are all just weirdly complex little freaks just trying to love and be loved in spite of our flaws... And I think that's beautiful. And to tie back to the whole pet situation... You could you technically be a pet to a higher being, sure. But they'd need your consent, to provide freedom and enrichment, and allow self expression. Which... checks out in this situation, to be honest. Lmao. Anyways... Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk, ya buncha animals. ;)

I'm really happy people are reading this and liking it, lmao. So I have some fun facts about humans that can maybe make you see them a little differently. Humans say "ow" even if they aren't actually hurt. It's usually right after they bump into something and just aren't sure yet. Humans aren't aquatic, or even amphibian in nature, but still like to swim in bodies of water together. Holding their breath is difficult, so they must just like to splash. Humans tend to get drowsy and sleep during the nighttime, and love cacooning themselves in a soft, fluffy bedding. Some humans use pigments and dyes to make their flesh more colorful and extravagant, even attaching shiny rocks to cartalidgous membranes! They don't serve a purpose, and every human has a unique taste for them- from size to colors. If a human hears a particularly catchy tune, it will often mimic it- even to the point of their own annoyance. These are heavily inspired by a blog I follow, though written from memory. Just Google "what-even-are-humans" and you'll find it! I just love stuff like this, because it really does refresh your perspective about yourself. You're not built for just war, or work, or academia- you can love the feeling of the splashing in water, and rolling down hills just because it's fun. Being silly or doing things just because you like it is in your nature! So remember to not repress your instincts, and embrace your humanity. :]

Since the definition of all words is made by humans, you have to look at it from a human perspective. A pet is an animal that a being has for companionship, that has a lower intelligence, where, in my eyes, it shouldn't be able to ask existential questions, or have a sense of morality, otherwise its too smart to be a pet, and is instead a friend/acquaintance/companion. The disparity between XD and humans (or I guess really anything else since Foolish is a demigod I'm pretty sure) is so large that in XD's eyes the difference between a pet and a human is basically nothing, so therefore XD considers Foolish a pet no matter what the definition of pet actually is.

Dreamxd apparently doesn't have any relative to foolish. Since puffy does confirm dream as her son but not dreamxd she doesn't know that he exists. Dream and foolish are not related, the family dinamic came from the headcanon that puffy was dreams's mother. But puffy has said that her character is not dream's mother, and if anything she would be kind of a guardian and not a parent. However, puffy and foolish are canonicly father and son.
