I agree. I've fitted the 500kg leafs with the smart coils in the front and BP51 shocks, it transformed my 79. My truck ride is now absolutely awesome. The ride is very comfortable and the harsh hit you used to get from the back when hitting a bump is completely gone. My mate has a 100 series and he couldn't believe how good my 79's ride is.

Great vid. I have a 2 inch TT kit with 500kg parabolics on my 79 and I rate them also. I just need a decent set of shocks as the ones that came in the kit are ok but not the best.

Hey great video. Just curios , with the 700kg constants and looking at ur weight in the tray in the video I'm surprised it tucked as much as it did. I've had too hard leafs before and it caused the ute to lift wheels as apposed to flexing the way it should. Do u notice a difference in travel with ur setup loaded vs unloaded?

Hi Trent, yes we need support from the air bags fully loaded, but yes they are a really good comfortable Flexi pack, and unloaded bags empty it still keeps height and really, more comfy on road than the wifes Fortuner...

@@90Zook So 1.38 front and 1.64 rear, not sure weight of tray, but to get the bum sitting level, i have 10psi more on the drivers airbag so at a guess I'm thinking toolbox and whats in it, 100-150kg

Great video, thanks! I have BP51s in my 79 and I'm looking at getting the parabolics. How much more flex would the 500kg give compared to the 700kg? I'm not carrying much weight most of the time, but I would like to future proof my 79. I prefer more flex, but if the difference is not that big I would probably opt for the 700kg. Also, is there a comfort difference between the 500kg and the 700kg? Thanks again!

Hey mate top video. After watching your videos I’ve booked my 79 dual in for the 700’s. 1 question tho if you weren’t always towing the comp truck and just average weight most of the time similar to yours in the vid . Throw in a cape camping trip once a year sort of thing would you still go the 700’s or slim down to the 500’s

Interesting! Am thinking of trying a set of the TT parabolics on the rear and their SmartCoil on the front. What would you suggest for a 78 Troopy camper? 500Kg set or 700Kg set? It'll have 100L of water on board, RTT, rear drawers, fridge, AGM battery, recovery gear etc in the back. 700Kg seems high but might be what is needed if I also want to hook up my little camper trailer (180kg ball weight) as well. What do you think? Would prefer a softer ride over corrugations, so leaning towards the 500's. Thanks.

The boys there at terrain tamer will know more about the 78s than I do, but I would assume from what your saying on those trips where your loaded and camper in tow, you would be nearly at the limit. Im not even sure they do a 700kg for the troopy, give them a buzz mate.....

Hi Drechn I went with the TT softest front progressive coils and 700kg parabolic paired with Dobo MRR remote res and to be honest... unimpressed so far. The base model OME kit I pulled out of it gave a smoother ride. The truck does probably handle slightly better and it does feel slightly flexier, but in general driving, no matter how I tune the shocks we feel every bump moreso now and the cab rattles everywhere. The next plan is to take a leaf out of the parabolics and hunt around for a softer front progressive. TT have been brilliant to deal with btw, not knocking them, but this combination hasn't done what I was hoping it would at this stage. One other thing to mention, did you notice that the TT bushes seemed too thick and were squashed to the shitehouse when the pins were tightened all the way? The OME kit bushes sat perfectly when tightened.. not squashed but snug. TT ones were so squashed they were bulging.

Yeh ok, good review on your set up, ive got the rs 9000 in the rear, but ive always got about 15psi in my bags which could be helping the ride, mines smoother than my wife's coiled rear fortuner.. I didn't use the TT bushes as I got some from one of the other sponsors I deal with.... Its all trial and error until you get it spot on, each truck is just that little bit different.. Curious, have you done anything for track correction, rims, spacers etc...

@@TeamBulletOffroad Yeah maybe the airbags are just doing most of the first 10% of compression. I haven't done any track correction stuff yet, looking at the Buds 50mm extended hubs and a neg 25 rim. That way I don't have to run different offsets and the hub is fully serviceable. I think the extra width will help when it hits a bump on just one side at a time. Currently pulling 4th leaf out, got one side back in, sits about 25mm lower but when I pull down on the tray it actually moves now so I'm expecting good things. will report back

@@TeamBulletOffroad mini update, ute rides much better on 3 leaves, but I've lost about 35mm height so I can't win lol. I've stacked 200kg of weight in the tray to see how much further it droops and its minimal so apart from the height loss its a pretty usable spring rate on 3 leaves. So my options are either to chuck an extended shackle kit in it to make up most of that 35mm or do the airbag option. If I was gonna do airbags I reckon I will plumb in some accumulator (ping) tanks on each bag seperately that will work kind of like a remote res on a shock and hopefully give the airbag portion of the compression a seriously soft spring rate if that makes sense. Always been keen to try it on a ute and I want this think to be a comfy ride on the highway days. What do you reckon boss? What airbag kit do you have? Have you lost much compression travel with your bag kit? My next issue with airbag kit is gonna be clearing the 3.5" exhaust too. Rant over

@@davefinlay3252 Dave, my airbags are off an old milk truck, a pantec, we fabbed up what we needed to make them work, they are a dual bellow poly air, so bought the plumbing kit to suit.. I think your playing with fire taking a leaf out and putting extended shackles on a leaf under diff set up.... The airbags actually act like a bump stop and help droop on the opposite side... D

Such good content in all you vids bud, I was wondering if you ever considered other brand parabolics like EFS for instance, I am doing a suspension refreshment right now and just simply can't get TT due to stock unless I want to wait 6 months so EFS is my only option. The dilemma is if I go with whats available it's 3" up instead of 2" and wondering if I can assume it will sag to 2" since they are only 400kg constant if memory serves. I run about 200kg over estimated.

Wow, 6 months wait on the TT.... I better get to ordering a set as I have the new 79 coming in 6 months and doing a portal build on it and was going to use TT... I use EFS on my comp trucks, so yes would consider them, with the 3 inch over 2 yes you would think with weight they would settle quicker, but ive not run those particular ones before..... Have fun setting up the new suspension

Hi Drench, I am looking at the 700kg set also but am a little concerned about the weight it can carry. Just weighed the 79 single cab yesterday and it went 3560kg. Not sure what the rear is separately. This is with full fuel 180ltr and water 100ltr. Alloy Tray, Alloy canopy with canvas, rooftop tent, draw sides with some camping gear, 70ltr TrailBlazer fridge and 2 /35" spares on rear swing away brackets on the rear...I recon there will be another 200kg of gear for a 2 week bush trip. Looks like pushing 3800kg. How do you thing they will perform or hold the weight. I have an 11 leaf pack at present which is pretty average and install airbags to help a little but not keen on loading them to much. Appreciate your thoughts.

WOW..... Thats heavy... You will definitely be needing the bags to help...Thats a half a tonne heavier than mine, im 3 tonne empty dat to day... Add the weight of car trailer ball weight and all my gear and id be up near your weight, I need like 50-60 in the bags on those particular runs, so you would need that all the time... Bit of a worry, I don't think they will be right for yours to be honest...

When you look at one of the videos from TT, Allan puts a fertilizer pod full of water on the back of a ute that already has a steel tray by the look and it held the weight quite well. So ive never had a coiled 79 and would never do 1 personally on a 79 unless I was building a comp truck, for me my 79 is a workhorse pulling the comp truck and jayco around, in my opinion longevity for that example, only leaf spring would give. But everyone is different in their needs..

Hey mate great video and good info, I'm going to get a set of 500-700 parabolics off terrain tamer and a set of Jmacx high clearance plates. Planning on matching them with the 3 way adjustable MRR dobinsons shocks, but I'm worried the slim leaf pack and high plates will have the lower mounting point to high and will compress the shocks too much. Whats you're opinion?

Even if you only have 120mm of up stroke on the shock you shouldn't bottom it out, ideally maybe don't get the shock until you have fitted up the leaves and plates..But sounds like it won't be too much different to mine.
