I have stage 4 and can't eat anything with glutamine or methionine, no sugars, no carbs...meaning strict vegetarian diet is the go to (no avocados)....I'm struggling with what to eat for breakfast because I have to eat with chemopills, 2 times a day, 12h in between, so I can't do fasting either. What should I have for breakfast? Any suggestions?

Eating the right kind of carbohydrates in the evening, like whole grains or vegetables, can help you sleep better. These foods help your body produce serotonin, a brain chemical that makes you feel relaxed and helps you fall asleep. It's also important because they keep your blood sugar level steady throughout the night, preventing sleep disturbances. Just make sure to eat them a few hours before bedtime, so your body has time to digest. Remember, it's not just about what you eat, but also maintaining a regular bedtime and a comfortable sleeping environment to get good sleep.

I do eat oatmeal everyday BUT I use 1/4 cup of organic rolled oats soaked in 1 cup of Greek yogurt for 8 hours topped with 1/2 cup of wild blueberries and 1/4 cup of walnuts. Soaking them in Greek yogurt and eating it cold turns it into resistance starch for my microbiome and with the protein in the yogurt and fat in the walnuts that really blunts any blood sugar spike. Not everyone can or should do this but it works for me.

I’ve been doing 30% protein, 30-40% carbs, 30-40% fats for a while now, and I feel great, I’ve lost weight, my skin looks great and my energy levels are better than ever. I eat oatmeal about twice to three times a month when I’m craving sweet, creamy things (always around my period). I do rolled oats boiled in full-fat goat milk, add vanilla extract, Stevia or Allulose to sweeten, a pinch of salt and abit of cinnamon or nutmeg. I top with crushed almonds and walnuts, pumpkin seeds, ground flax seed, chopped up 70% dark chocolate and chopped fruits (usually banana or berries). If I’m feeling abit extra, I even add abit of ghee or pure butter. I eat it warm, and it’s not just delicious, but so comforting and satisfying when I’m PMSing and craving carbs…my body is just wired to crave carbs + fat + sweet and/or creamy things during that time of the month. Sometimes I’ll also make chicken Alfredo using low-carb pasta and chicken breast during that time eventhough I don’t usually care for it, I try to make the healthiest version of it without compromising taste too much.

I do intermittent fasting, eat mostly organic and low carb. But oatmeal is one of the few high carb food that I really like and instinctively make me feel that's good for me, the other high carb I enjoy are bananas and quality honey. I prepare my oatmeal with a lot of cinnamon, often with sheep milk or adding skyr, greek yogurt or kefir and some Brazil, macadamia or walnut nuts and blueberries...for me a great cheap and healthy meal that keeps energized for hours! 😄

Have a look at what Dr Phillip Ovadia says about 'cholesterol' and statins. It wasn't necessarily that keto put you on statins... it's more likely to be the ignorance of doctors generally, and the misconceptions around blood lipids/diet and statins that dictated statins. Ovadia is a U.S. cardiac surgeon

Yes agreed. Try and keep oats organic but yes we all different. If you check out Tim Spector he points out everyone has a different microbiome even identical twins so what satisfies our hunger for longest time within reason is individual . Also different people get different blood sugar spikes from different foods. Tim Spector said his wife who is french by birth didnt get massive spikes when eating French bread but Tim who loved french bread did so unfortunately he decided it best to avoid most of time unless it a special treat. They both used blood sugar monitors to analyse what gave them spikes and what didnt. The more you learn about nutrition the more I believe you realise there are no hard and fast one size fits all fixes just general rules that wise to follow such as reduce or cut out added sugars as much as possible , eat organic if you can afford, favour high fibre nutritionally dence foods in preference to hyper processed foods such as cake and Pringles. Let’s face it I find Pringles so addictive given half a chance I would eat an entire tube in an evening zero real nutrition just junk . I did stop eating crisps and cake/biscuits for around 10 months and guess what I lost 32 pounds………small modifications to diet swapping poor foods for better ones like 25 grams of nuts for Pringles can make a real difference.

I've been eating oats for breakfast literally from the day I was born. I stopped eating oats when I started keto, and gradually I got arthritis in my fingers. One morning I couldn't move any of my fingers at all. At that point for other reasons (for better bowel movements) I decided to start oatmeal again, I never expected it would have an effect on my arthritis, but miraculously the very next day, I regained movement in my fingers to a large extent. It was totally unexpected and at first I couldn't understand why my condition had improved so dramatically. The only thing I did differently was the oats! My guess is that the soluble fiber fed the good bacteria and reduced inflammation. But after seeing what you have to say about Chia seeds, I think I will give that a try! Thank you.

While adapting to keto it is so easy to get an imbalance in your electrolites due to the lack of carbohydrates. Also carbs get stored with water, if you don´t have carbs it´s easier to loose water and with that important minerals, such as magnesium, very important for your joints and muscles. I tried for about a month, just to experiment. Even though I knew this and paid attention by drinking water with some salt in the morning and taking mineral supplements, my body did not respond well. Everybody is different and has a different gut biome and metabolism.

Very interesting, balanced presentation. I'm relieved to learn that i'm probably not ruining my health by eating oats everyday for breakfast. I do it more out of habit than pleasure. Don't add sugar, just a bit of cinnamon, walnuts and pumpkin seeds which hopefully take care of my prostate and general health. It's a convenient everyday breakfast but don't feel it is miraculous either for emptying the bowel; coffee is probably more efficient at that. But it keeps me easily satiated till lunch time. It must be an ok food for me, as i'm doing fine w/out any meds at an already respectable age.

I dont dispute most of what you say Sten, but comparing an oats based breakfast with your eggs & avocado, the costings are at great variance. Currently here in UK, a 45g portion of good quality oats costs £0.09, whilst the frozen cherries i have with it would cost £0.32 and £0.19 for 15 g milled chia seeds, total cost £0.66, with a very small portion of semi skimmed milk costing pennies, under £0.04. Your version would cost £0.43 for 1/2 avocado, £0.62 for 2 free range eggs, not to mention the costs of the vegetables and evoo you suggest. With one tabsp costing about £0.20, never mind the rest of the veggies, probably adding up to a total of over £1.40, that is double the cost of the oats breckfast. For most of the population needing to get healthier, working class people, in a cost of living crisis, the choice is a no-brainer!

I like to do what is called overnight quick oats with whole milk. My favourite combo is ground flax seed for extra fibre, nuts for more protein and fats, raisins, cinnamon and a little maple syrup which is lower on the glycemic index for a sugar. I went to that as my go to from store bought bread, peanut butter and jam. I feel it did help me lose some stubborn weight that I was having difficulty with and I am able to keep it off. I feel more satiated in the morning and I feel it gives my the energy for my workout and job. On my days off I do eggs. I’m a big breakfast guy would not miss it. I love your chia seed suggestion to increase the soluble fiber, which is why I added the oats back to begin with. Now I can reduce the oats, increase the chia and should do even better. He's been doing plant based everything. He'll eat 3-4 pouches of microwaved flavored instant oats for breakfast convinced it's healthy. ☹

I ate overnight oats for breakfast for 185 days straight. I moved to oats from pancakes/bread/cereal. I can say. I felt a lot more full and energized. It was amazing. I eat my oatmeal with: milk(full fat), greek yogurt(full fat), chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, wallnuts, ground almond, cinnamon, a fruit and some berries. I used to have a sweetener, but not anymore. Always drinking only water. Lately I started eating omelette for every other day. I feel a lot more energized again. This just proves the fact that oatmeal is good, but you can still go to great. My problem now however was that even if I had 4 eggs I felt very hungry. So I combined it with some bacon and a salad. Now I feel like I reached the best combination so far. I decided to keep eating the oatmeal for every other day because of all the variety of different foods I'm consuming. Never felt better in my life.

I remember I read somewhere that the oats have prebiotic properties meaning it helps with the gut bacteria balance. Even though I can't back it up I kind of wanted to mention it here just to give you another perspective. That the food that might not seems to be a great source of fuel to a person might actually be great for person's microbiome. Also as much as the wheat is unpopular these days especially on this channel I can imagine, wheat bran is something that might actually have a great health benefits. According to my doctor it helps to develop certain gut bacteria and kind of brushes colon walls.

I have been eating 2 oatcakes with one or either of almond butter, peanut butter or macadamia butter on. I aim to buy all organic oatcakes and nut butters too. I feel pretty good to be honest and I like the simplicity and the mix of nutrients I get (carbs, protein, fibre etc) from that small meal/snack when I'm not feeling particularly hungry. I am not a big meat eater, although I enjoy chicken and fish, along with eggs & cheese (I know it's classed as dairy) too. I find it works for me anyway, but may not work for everyone.

I'm glad you pointed out that oats affect different people in different ways. I've always eaten oatmeal since I was a kid. Typically a bowl a day. Mind you, I use the plain whole grain oats (not the kind with the added sugar or treats in them) cooked with unpasteurized milk... with bananas and blueberries tossed in with some honey to top it off. Always fills me up, never leaves me feeling bloated or hungry. A few of my friends would see me eating it and say it's bad for me and I was always like "how though?! What about it is bad?" This video helped shed light on some of the downsides, but I figure as long as I stay active and avoid processed foods, plain oats aren't going to hurt me much, if at all.

I so love learning about health choices in context, its so much more engaging and easier to retain. I get the idea that dairy needs to be fermented for some reason, and that milk is not good, cream is better, butter better than cream, ghee and clarified butter are fully 'good'. Is it that fermentation kills the baby cow hormones, or that the proteins are altered somehow, or both?

Fermentation eats up the sugar, like how wine fermentation eats up the grape sugars to produce a “dry”(less sweet) wine. Have read it also helps with lactose intolerance, making dairy easier to digest.

Been on keto for about 5 mo and improvements have been made. Occasionally I will have 1/2 cup rolled oats and will add ground flax and chia seeds and heavy whipping cream just enough to moisten it. When I eat it like that it makes me fill full for much longer. Yes the carbs are there but the extra fiber should slow things down. Ive considered doing that before an extended fast. I would like comments on that.

My spouse ate oatmeal every day... I didn't. He is no longer among the living I'm still no only still breathing, but very active and healthy with no scrips. Most of my life a Sunday breakfast was the only time I ate breakfast. I never indulged in carbs not because I thought they were destroying people's health but because I had a good diet drummed into my brain by my immigrant family who owned a farm. The food available was grown and raised there. The one exception was bakery Italian bread. I can honestly say I never saw things like prepared foods in the homes of either set of grandparents and never saw them eat anything sweet except an occasional piece of candy Christmas and Easter holidays. Don't train you kids to crave sugar and starchy foods. You will be doing them a great favor.

I started eating oatmeal for breakfast a few months ago after experiencing painful gastritis and inflamed bowels and gut. I organic rolled oats, full sized, and I stay full for hours. I put some honey, salt and cinnamon in it, and sometimes some berries. A couple of weeks ago the store didn't have my oats so I had to buy porridge oats. Also rolled, but much smaller in size, and after a few days I noticed that I got cravings and wanted more to eat less than an hour after later. I went back to my normal oats as soon as I could and again I stay full and satisfied for hours. I avoid anything flour, sugar and even fruit and veggies because they mess up my gut and I get cravings and feel hungry all the time. Oats on the other hand soothes my gut. I use it for pizza base, as tortillas and in baking and my gut is healing, I don't get cravings and I stay satisfied for hours afterwards. Oh, and I used to either do intermittent fasting or eat scrambled eggs for breakfast. Oats most DEFINITELY has an anti inflammatory effect on my body avd gut. I think a lot of people don't understand that there is a difference between how the oats have been treated.

I like eating oats with a tablespoon or two or strawberry jam cooked into it, depending on how much sweetness I want. I leave it slightly wet but without any added milk because I don't feel the need to add milk. It might be more sugar than some people might like, but any oats that I eat is generally great for the stomach due to the fermentation factor. Oats is also something that can be added to a host of savory dishes, breads, cookies and more, making this neutral grain such a nice addition to stockpile in the pantry.

While the Andean breakfast is hearty and includes a variety of ingredients like pork meat, cheese, natural milk cream, meat soups, breakfast in developed countries tends to be more focused on carbohydrates like cereal, toast, or pastries. If you understand macros and calories, you can program oats into your daily food without any issues. My first meal of the day is 1/2 cup raw organic oats (just a little hot water stirred in), 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries, 4 whole eggs, 2oz white rice, 2oz raw beef liver, and 1tbsp cod liver oil. I use the oats and berries to achieve my daily carb and calorie goal. If I wanted to lower my daily carbs and calories, the oats would definitely be the first thing to go because of their higher carb and calorie count. Thank you for a great video Doc…

Traditional/rolled mostly, sometimes quick. (I get steel cut is supposed to be healthier, but costs more and takes longer to make.) As other folks mention, if you overeat the quantity, you likely will be drowsy. For coeliacs, regarding oats themselves... oats do not contain gluten but oat fields often contain wheat seedlings due to previous cultivation or contamination. Coeliacs require certified gluten free oats which are from wheat free fields and which do not subsequently get contaminated on the production line. Also, oats naturally have a gluten-like compound called avenin which may provoke the immune system of some coeliacs. In this case, oats are to be avoided.
