2:27 Treatment for high blood pressure
2:38 The sodium/potassium connection
6:00 The best type of salt to consume
6:10 The best type of salt for people with high blood pressure
7:15 Learn more about potassium!
Let’s talk about the signs you’re consuming too much salt.
Top signs you’re consuming too much salt:
• Edema (in the eyes, hands, feet, or lower legs)
• Thirst
• High blood pressure
• Headache
• Restlessness
• Irritability
• Nausea
• Fatigue
Top signs of sodium deficiency:
• Weakness
• Low blood pressure
• An increase in neurotransmitters
• Vascular stiffness and high blood pressure
• Insulin resistance
In my opinion, the most common cause of high blood pressure is insulin resistance. Many things can contribute to insulin resistance, including a high-carb diet, intermittent fasting, and a low-sodium diet.
The most common treatment for high blood pressure is diuretics. But, diuretics can cause you to lose both sodium and potassium.
People who are salt sensitive or who have symptoms of a sodium deficiency are really deficient in potassium. Sodium and potassium work together in the body, and you need twice as much potassium as you do sodium. The average person needs 2300mg of sodium and 4700mg of potassium per day.
The more carbohydrates you have in your diet, the more potassium you’ll lock up, making it unavailable. It’s important for people with diabetes to get on a low-carb diet and consume foods high in potassium or a good electrolyte powder.
We need sodium in our diets, but not just sodium chloride-we need the whole mineral balance. This is why it’s best to consume sea salt.
However, if you have high blood pressure, try consuming Baja Gold Sea Salt. This type of sea salt tastes great and has lower amounts of sodium.

A few years ago my Dr was wanting to put me on a Statin, instead I listened to Dr Berg's advice (and a few other, Dr. Shaun Baker, Dr. Berry, Dr. Saladino, Thomas Delauer), I not only have no need to take a medication anymore but I lost 40lbs, and improved my cholesterol markers and testosterone markers, which my own Dr. Doesn't understand how I can improve those without his help😂

I've had high blood pressure for all of my life and did my best to cut out salt because that's what everyone recommended. My blood pressure never went down. Then, for an unrelated reason, I went on the keto diet and my blood pressure plummeted to normal levels, even as I started to add more salt back into my diet. Dr. Berg's information has been a life changer in my understanding of nutrition.

My doctor tried to get me to take diuretics for my high BP and I refused knowing that it would deplete me of potassium. My potassium level was teetering on the low side anyway and I refused the prescription. When I asked about potassium pills she told me that potassium was dangerous! I knew better and immediately ordered Dr Bergs electrolyte drink mix. And my BP started dropping almost immediately. Went on Keto, lost 12 pounds within 6 weeks. His advice is lifesaving.

Stay away from Gatorade and ANY sugar drinks. You worked outside and your body is craving Potassium. Ya see how you craved salt yet you've got high BP? And your taught your diet has to much sodium which is why you have high BP, and you worked outside in hot elements for years? Because your body thirst for Potassium AND the high BP comes from too much carbs/sugar. Dr. Berg has several videos on this. I highly recommend looking them up. You'd be amazed!

I found through watching your other videos about potassium that I had become very sensitive to my requirement for Potassium. At nearly 69 years old I’ve never had a blood pressure problem until recently. Now, where I routinely take 5000 mg of potassium in divided doses throughout the day, I have no problems. Sodium is difficult to measure (2300 mg) since it’s so prevalent but in the normal course of my days if I take less than 5000 mg K+, I do have elevated blood pressure. I had to remind my alternative doctor (that I do EDTA chelation therapy with) of the sodium potassium pump! Thank you for all you do! 💖🙋‍♀️🇨🇱

I do not fully believe I am one of those who should eat 10g/day; there's enough people online that claim the 5g is too little and they have had the same positive reactions I have had on taking 10-15g/day. Odd thing is, I don't get really thirsty from 10-15g salt, I want some more water, but not twice as much as usual?_* ---> *_Spreading out the salt intake is a good idea, I also have a crack of sea salt in my morning coffee; this has several benefits well worth a Dr.Berg video._* *_This is on Healthy Keto Diet With Intermittent Fasting or Carnivore Diet with Intermittent Fasting. How does the Baja Salt compare to Celtic Sea Salt, that is what I have been using - i'm ordering it regardless, as I love salt and always looking for new ones to try but curious if a similar mineral makeup? love your content, i just realized today that you have a line of supplements! I will be ordering some!

I hope people don’t take the info in this video out of context. Our bodies need salt but the key is to balance it out with potassium. You still don’t want to exceed the daily recommended salt amount which is what a lot of Americans do. Too much salt can cause or worsen cardiovascular, bone and neurological diseases.

This hit a nerve. I’m hypertensive and just cut out eating bacon from my diet. Been keto since January and had a very high reading a couple of weeks ago and back on meds after using high dose D3, K2 and supplements😕Only taking a half pill as a full pill of lisinopril/HCTZ made my BP go lower than I’ve ever seen. Going to go all out next week IF+keto+exercise🙏🏿 Thanks Dr Berg♥️

crazy he made this video today. My blood pressure went wild last week to 160/90 from normal BP. I suspected it was low potassium since I was essentially doing carnivore with A LOT of a salt haha. Added potassium this week from supplementation alongside beet greens and spinach in a smoothie and back to normal. My BP does spike after meals though (assuming from the sodium). However, I suspect as I stabilize my potassium levels, these spikes will level off. Fasting BP back to normal now. Thank you for confirming my theory with this video! BTW, doctor never even asked about diet or recent lifestyle changes, just gave me BP medication. Useless....

Be careful with spinach and beet greens. They are extremely high in Oxalates and can silently create huge problems!
@xtaylor93x
@xtaylor93x Жыл бұрын
@@ianstuart5660 I have been cooking them before to remove as many oxalates as possible. I read it can remove roughly 90% of the oxalates and increase the potassium. Hopefully that is true. Thank you for the comment.

I started adding potassium chloride to the water I drink and I can notice a huge difference in how I feel. I used to have unexplained heart palpitations and since I started adding potassium chloride to the water I drink the heart palpitations have COMPLETELY disappeared. I always had plenty of sodium in my diet, but I could never eat near enough fruits and vegetables to hit 4000mg of potassium a day. Adding potassium chloride to my water is an easy way to get the right amount of potassium my body needs. I’m hoping it will help with my blood pressure too which tends to be on the higher side more often than not.

Actually, sea salt contains a mixture of plastics, since the oceans are so polluted. Also the minerals in sea salts are insufficient when compared to the significantly better alternative: Himalayan pink salt. Baja gold salt, fascinating. I've never heard of that. Thank you.

your new mic is more “tinny” sounding or high pitched, not as “rich” as your prior mic. i used low sodium salt that has potassium built in so its a win win. but i also use your electrolyte powder too. 😊
