13:49 Learn more about kidney stones!
Today we’re going to talk about what causes kidney stones.
It’s odd that kidney stones even form in the first place, but calcification can occur in many parts of the body.
97.2% of the people with kidney stones in a certain study also had tiny bacteria (nanobacteria) in the kidney stones.
These nanobacteria eat calcium and form bone-like crystal structures-a type of calcium that’s in bone. They’ve also found nanobacteria in calcium deposits in other parts of the body.
The problem is that the immune system has a difficult time detecting nanobacteria because they protect themselves with biofilms. But, the immune system will detect a problem and will trigger an immune response. An immune response can create a lot of inflammation, leading to complications.
Before using any natural remedies to break up biofilms, take TUDCA and have activated charcoal on hand.
How to help prevent kidney stones:
1. Drink 2.5 liters of fluid per day
2. Take calcium citrate and consume lemons
3. Take potassium citrate
4. Take garlic
5. Get on Healthy Keto® and do intermittent fasting
6. Decrease stress on yourself and your microbiome

I have been dealing with stones for almost ten years. I started getting them when I was 19. I am 28 now and in February I had five stones. 5mm two 4mm and a smaller one in all in my right kidney and one 2mm in the left. I have had the stones analyzed. They are mostly made up of brushite. I was told that not much is known about what causes that. Could this be related to what you were talking about in this video? I have had the procedure done three separate times in my life to have stones removed. I have had over twenty stones in the nine years. My diet is not terrible. I am pulling at straws here trying to figure out why this is happening. I had an X-ray in November I only had one. Go to the ER in February (only three months) to then have five. Please help me.

Dr. have you examined the ingredients of low sugar Monster energy drinks? If so please tell me if you think drinking enough of these over a period of time can cause or increase the size of kidney stones. The blue canned letters contain little sugar but it does contrain sucralose, a controversial artificial sweetner, with possible dangers. I have suspected this to be the case but would like your opinion.

I was getting a stone about every 2 years and ended up in the ER twice. The last one I had was 7mm and the doctors told me I wouldn't be able to pass it so they scheduled me to see a Urologist to put me under while they ran a scope through the ureter to break it up. While waiting for the appointment I read up on every natural remedy I could find. I did the lemon remedy and also apple cider vinegar treatments. After doing these my pain was completely gone within about 4 days. I still had to go to the urologist appointment which was a week later and they did another scan that morning but didn't tell me the results. I was feeling wonderful with no pain but just a little tired. I wasn't sure if the stone was still there though so I went along with the doctors who went ahead and did the scheduled procedure. When I woke up from the anesthesia they told me there was nothing there to break up. The stone had apparently dissolved due to the lemon water and apple cider vinegar. Ever since then I try to drink water every day with a couple of capfuls of organic apple cider vinegar. I haven't had a stone in over 8 years now. I tell every one I can about apple cider vinegar's wonderful benefits. I used to drink a lot of soda (Mountain Dew especially) and so I was often dehydrated from the sugar and caffeine. Dr. Berg is right in that you need to stay hydrated. My doctors had told me that from their experience they have a saying "Once a stoner, always a stoner" implying that you are going to be stuck with these things the rest of your life but that is not true. You can find natural remedies to prevent or heal your body if you get them. The lemon remedy works as follows: buy about a dozen lemons or so and in the first hour squeeze them to fill a cup of 6 to 8 ounces. Drink this down undiluted in the first hour. For the next hour and every hour afterwards throughout the rest of the day squeeze a lemon in with a cup of 8 ounces water. Drink this diluted lemon water every hour. You can also do apple cider vinegar mixed with water which is what i do now to prevent them from forming, or dissolve them if formed. I've also heard asparagus helps with the urinary tract too. Anyway, Merry Christmas and God bless everyone who reads this. Kidney stones are horribly painful and I pray you never get one.

@Eppy Channel If you already have a stone I would drink as much as you can tolerate and do it numerous times a day. For preventive maintenance I drink about 2 teaspoonfuls in 12 ounces of water once a day. I do consume it every day. In the summer when it's hot out I sometimes drink more. I basically try to see how I feel when I urinate. I can tell if I am starting to get dehydrated (my urine may be cloudy or there will be a slight burning sensation). I hit the water and vinegar and then I feel much better. Good luck and God bless. Hope this helps you.

I have been forming kidney stones since 26, I am 52 now. I had a stone requiring surgery every 3-4 years. After researching this I'm convinced that the cause of most of the stones is oxalates. After going on a medium to lox oxalate diet [it's not recommended to jump to low ox immediately] for over a year I'm beginning to feel a lot better. My sinuses cleared which helped breathe and therefore sleep better. I no longer get excessive tartar nor extreme weakness. If bacteria are the cause of kidney stones, then why am I feeling better? Oxalates are one of several plant toxins that are present most abundantly in things like spinach, almond, dark chocolate, peanuts, etc. The leading authority in oxalates is most definitively nutritionist Sally K Norton, I highly recommend looking at her videos here in KZbin and take it from there. Good luck!!!

I’m so glad I’ve started it. Before then it has never been my concern but I was getting sick of bloating and the crash in the afternoon. The benefits I’ve gained from it are feeling great everyday, a lot less bloating and fluid retention, mental clarity and focus. Also enjoy more on meal prep and cooking since I can have 2 meals without snacks in a day. Thank you so much for producing wonderful videos that benefit everyone. Had my first stone in the US Army and had to have lithotripsey. Since then, I’ve had upward of 30-50 operations and many, many more stones passed naturally. One surgeon went in to clean one kidney out of stones but knicked my renal artery. After bleeding internally and into external bags for a week, I was almost dead. They finally listened and took me through the ER. Several operations later they were able to stop the bleeding and it left that kidney with barely over 20% usage of that kidney. A few years later it started going below 20% and what remained was removed. Stones are real people and they SUCK but then so does a bad surgeon. Potassium Citrate twice a day has really lowered my stone formation.

I have had 7 kidney stones in the last 2 weeks and probably pass 20 or more each year. Luckily the stones I get are very small, smooth, and round, compared to the more crystal-like stones which are way more painful to pass. I started getting stones at the EXACT same time as I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Every doctor I've been to has said there is no connection but I find that hard to believe.

From my research it appears that scientists have disproven the nanobacteria theory and have since updated the scientific terminolgy to specify these protein-minera; formations as being non-living nano-molecules formed from biomineralization rather than bacteria. IS there any additional literature available refuting this counter position on the subject?

I see this as a chain reaction of chronic illnesses that all start with digestive stress. Imagine that digestion is like the Earth and the creatures living in it are not in harmony, when everything is neutral they suddenly become enemies of each other. I think the treatment starts from the initial reaction, which is to restore harmony to the environment and prevent stress from the beginning so that the micro-organisms in it do not feel threatened. The environment (and the environment in the gut) may be the key.

3 years ago, I made a resolution to take better care of my teeth when I noticed signs of neglect were starting to show. Until that point, brushing my teeth was just something I did before I left the house so my breath wouldn’t offend people, and I almost never brushed before bed…and since dentists always gave me the impression that flossing is pretty much optional, I opted not to. So on 1/1/2020, I brushed and flossed before bed. When I woke up on 1/2/2020, I noticed my psoriasis looked much better. I wondered if it was related, but psoriasis changes from day to day, so I tossed it up to coincidence, but my curiosity about it motivated me to brush and floss before bed again that night. When I woke up on 1/3/2020, my psoriasis looked better again. And on it went, brushing and flossing before bed, and seeing improvement in my psoriasis upon waking the next day. At the time, like most Americans, I was woefully ignorant of the pathogenic potential of oral microbes. But I NEVER believed that so-called autoimmune disorders are caused by an immune system going haywire for no good reason, or because of some lousy genes that were passed down. (Handing down destructive genetic material to our offspring makes absolutely no sense from an evolutionary perspective.) I always knew SOMETHING REAL was triggering my immune system to respond in this way…something doctors couldn’t yet detect or something they were overlooking. It took about 6 months of nightly brushing and flossing to completely clear up my psoriasis naturally without any meds or topical treatments. I wish I had known this back when I first broke out with it in 8th grade, I could have saved my mother a small fortune in dermatology treatments that only left me feeling helpless because they never worked. And I could have gone through high school without the ugly scales all over my elbows and knees. If anyone had informed me that oral hygiene is THIS important, I would’ve taken much better care of my teeth for the past 50 years!!! I had to know why it worked, but back in 2020, Google wasn’t much help. I had to dig into published microbial studies and follow my intuition for a few months to find my answers. When I read about biofilms for the first time, I knew right then that psoriasis is a biofilm infection, not a disordered immune system. The hardest part about having worked all this out myself is that I now understand things that most doctors haven’t even heard about yet. It is so refreshing to hear an MD speak intelligently about the things I have been learning and know to be true. I would love to hear your thoughts on using ginseng in addition to freeze dried garlic while clearing biofilm infections.

She doesn’t drink enough water which drives us loopy. She has sinus issues, stress from the loss of her daughter (2019), poor diet and ulcers. She’s also a cancer survivor. Will do my best to help change her habits as much as possible. You’re a wonderful Dr. and person. Wishing you a wonderful Holiday Season and New Year.

Dr. Berg's timing nails it again! I passed my first stone at age 17. Passed two more, later on. I believe there's another one on the way and I used to believe it was from drinking sodas (not just sugary but sugar-free ones, too). What helped me pass them, I believe, was strong cranberry juice & lemon juice (both with enough water), beet juice, and asparagus water. (The beet juice, however, might have too much sugar but it was available.) Raw garlic does help, too -- and avoiding junk food. That aside... I hope everyone reading this has a happy and healthy Christmas & a wonderful New Year. Thank you for so many helpful and awesome videos, Dr. Berg.

I had hyperparathyroidism, not caused by an adenoma, but caused by 4 gland hyperplasia. 5 years ago 3 of those 4 glands were removed but I still have elevated calcium from time to time, not dangerously high like before, but still too high. I had everything you mentioned too; kidney stones, cataracts, clogged arteries, constipation, etc and after everything I went thru, it still seems like nothing is getting these issues under control. This is fascinating! My entire life I’ve taken so many courses of antibiotics. Strep throat, tonsillitis, sinus infections. I had kidney stones as a teen, then again in my 40’s. My stones were calcium (not oxalate). I stopped taking any and all calcium supplements. I’ve cut way back on oxalates too just in case. I’m on a low carb diet and haven’t been on antibiotics in years.

I was diagnosed with graves thyrotoxicosis an autoimmune condition in 2018, but I was diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism in 2004, the I passed my first kidney stone a couple of years later, but we're discharged after my calcium returned to normal, passed several kidney stones and have a gall stone to.. I passed my last one in hospital in 2019 2 months after my thyroidectomy, then got diagnosed again with primary hyperparathyroidism through blood tests in 2020, but again endo won't treat me, I've now seen a private parathyroid surgeon who as identified a nodule in my neck, but you suprised me when you mentioned calcification of the joints ect, because I have calcification of my knees, ankles, and heart, calcified tendonitis in my shoulder, have tinnitus, bad eyesight lost around 5 teeth so far and have ostiopein in my spine and thigh bones, I was rushed into hospital in 2015 with stomach/bowle problems vomiting blood passing blood , I was put on high amounts of introvenis antibiotics, I couldn't stop vomiting even after 6 days, I begged the specialist to take me off the antibiotics, when he did I recovered, I got a bad chest infection in 2018 GP gave me antibiotics oral...I vomited them back and discontinued them, I recovered from the infection by myself, I've since found out I can't stomach antibiotics in any form🤷

Dr. Berg this is very informative. As a "stone former" I have had many stones; Lithotripsy and was prescribed a diuretic years ago. At age 45, I suddenly started getting occasional kidney stones. Nothing changed in my diet or lifestyle. The only difference is that I started taking the Bactrim antibiotic about once a year. I was taking Bactrim because I would get "traveler's diarrhea" each year during my annual Mexico vacation. I had read Bactrim helped this. At the time, I was able to find an article online that said it was one of the possible side effects of Bactrim. Since then, I have noticed that I tend to get kidney stones after taking any type of antibiotic. I mentioned this to my urologist and he thought I was crazy.

I’m a chronic stone former. I had 2 surgeries to remove large ones and I’ve passed over 300 stones. So i have some experience and i can say with 100% certainty that drinking lots of water does NOT work! I’ve been drinking 2.5 liters of water a day for many years and still form stones. I’ve discovered that the opposite is actually true. If at any point during a day you become slightly dehydrated then your kidneys tend to expel any stones but if you drink lots of water they do not get expelled. Example: don’t drink water in the morning and then do an intense workout and you will expel stones within 24 hours guaranteed. Stones can’t form that fast so this means they were formed previously. The momentary mild dehydration and exercise act to expel them. I can also promise you that bottled lemon juice is 100% NOT effective! I have been drinking huge amounts of bottled lemon juice with my water for years and still formed stones. The lemons MUST be fresh or the citrate pills seem to work much better. Also i recently began taking citrate supplements because i don’t believe that you can obtain enough citrate from lemons to have any significant effect of the stones. However, Dr Berg is 100% correct about the detox side effect from using citrate. After about 10 days i became VERY sick to my stomach with diarrhea and intense stomach pain and i felt terrible. I stopped the citrate pills and fasted and i was fine within 24 hours. Now I’m starting the citrate again but a MUCH lower dosage. I also don’t believe the garlic has any significant effect on these microbes because I’ve been eating garlic religiously for years with every meal and i still produced stones. I believe the citrate supplements are the secret key to expelling the microbes and to prevent stone formation. And i also can confirm that my knee joints started getting stiff, my eyesight became worse at the same time my body was forming stones. I never thought about it before but he is 100% correct!

I started generating stones (calcium oxalate) after receiving a series of high-dose vitamin C (100 grams) intravenous treatments from a Naturopath. Initially 8 stones formed. That was 15 years ago, and on average I’ve passed a stone every 3 years since then. I’m now taking malic acid daily, drink lemon water and stay hydrated. Hoping to ward off further stones.
