An Asian urologist, who's name I forgot, found out that COCONUT WATER also helps to dissolve small kidney stones. I applied this when my family doctor wanted to send me to an urologist: I drank one glass of sugar free coconut water a day on an empty stomach for two weeks and then had another check-up: no more signs of kidney stones!! This was years ago. Now I keep on drinking coconut water and lemon water intermittently as a way to prevent new kidney stones. So far, so good.

Takeaways: 1. Crystalisation of oxilates leads to kidney stones. 2. Pain during urine, pain in muscles, back maybe symptoms. 3. Lack of microbes example Lactobacillus which help in break down oxilates and stop them from entering into blood. 4. Diabeties, insulin resistance person's kidney or liver not function well and lead to this problem. 5. If you eat calcium with these foods then calcium will combine with oxilates and prevent it entering into blood. 6. Find a probiotic that reduce oxilates. 7. Take Magnesium. 8. Lemon ( citrates) juice also reduce the oxilates. 9. Vitamin D - that helps in calcium absorption and helps to bind it with oxilates in gut. 10. Drink water more.

So really, oxalates may not the be real problem to our health. The real problem may be that our diet lacks the necessary "tools" to clean out the oxalates from our systems. And, this also explains why some people whose diet is not deficient, do not have problem with oxalates. However, I also understand some may be sensitive to oxalate containing foods in general.

"What is shock wave lithotripsy? Shock Wave Lithotripsy (SWL) is the most common treatment for kidney stones in the U.S. Shock waves from outside the body are targeted at a kidney stone causing the stone to fragment. The stones are broken into tiny pieces. lt is sometimes called ESWL: Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy®. These are what the words mean: extracorporeal: from outside the body shock waves: pressure waves lithotripsy (the Greek roots of this word are "litho" meaning stone, "tripsy" meaning crushed) So, SWL describes a nonsurgical technique for treating stones in the kidney or ureter (the tube going from the kidney to the bladder) using high-energy shock waves. Stones are broken into "stone dust" or fragments that are small enough to pass in urine. lf large pieces remain, another treatment can be performed When can SWL be used? SWL works better with some stones than others. Very large stones cannot be treated this way. The size and shape of stone, where it is lodged in your urinary tract, your health, and your kidneys' health will be part of the decision to use it. Stones that are smaller than 2 cm in diameter are the best size for SWL. The treatment might not be effective in very large ones."

Not all people are sensible to oxalates and how the food is processed is important as well. The problem with "trends" in food is that people want one "miracle" food and one enemy food :) as well. Lots of people have smoothies and they trow in them fresh spinach (highest oxalate content) while cooked spinach have much less oxalates that combined with the parmesan cheese, makes it good and a healthful combo, besides way more delicious than a smoothie. Italians also remove skin and seeds from tomatoes and Nonas have being doing this for centuries, doing so they remove lectins, which can be a problem for human health in high doses. Eating the Italian way has not comparison with the processed and ultra processed food, I would not change it.

Foods high in oxalates: Almonds, peanuts, chocolate, etc.. 1. It important to know how those (soluble and insoluble) oxalates are absorbed (or not) in the gut Journal of food composition and analysis, Volume 20, May 2007 pages 169-174. Peanuts have the lowest intestinal soluble oxalates among other nuts like pinenuts 2. We also have to look at how the food is processed. For ex. soaked almonds for 24 hrs and then making the almond milk at high temperature, lowers the (soluble and insoluble) oxalate content, besides almonds are high in calcium as well. 3. Check the ratio oxalates/calcium in the food itself, which is more important than the oxalate content itself. One thing is what the food has and another how it is absorbed or not in the gut.

Question: if you want magnesium and citrates why would you take magnesium glycinate instead of magnesium citrate?
@nickbonvino Жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing… maybe glycinate is absorbed more easily?

Magnesium citrate really messed up my stomach and entire intestinal system. Asa result I only take Magnesium malate (easy on the system) and L- threonate or Magtein

Diarrhea, glycinate doesn't cause it like citrate does. I went to transdermal magnesium.

Good info. Thanks 🙏 Sally Norton recommends eating no more than 150-200 mg a day of oxalates since that is what the body can usually handle. And oxalate dumping can be painful at times. So your advice should help ❤

High dietary oxalate consumption + low urinary excretion should translate into accumulation of oxalates. If oxalate excretion were high upon high oxalate intake then there would be no accumulation in the body. Maybe I misunderstood what you said or my understanding is somehow erroneous.

Dear Dr. Berg. I had pre-diabetics and when I was pregnant. Been eating wrong for a very long time. But then something horrible happened to me to cause it to get worse. I was shot and the bullet ricocheted. It lodged into my pancreas and it hit my kidneys. Needless to say they did numerous surgeries. Took out a portion of my small intestines. To this day I don't know and my pancreas is good. Nothing seems to be developing right as far as my eating habits now that I've been following your diet plan. Even with vitamins I still have extreme problems. Can you help me?? Would appreciate your feedback.

Dr. Berg good morning, I've been a subscriber of yours for several years! Does all this still apply for people like me that an ectopic left kidney? I'm 1 in 1000 that was born with my kidney like this and there isn't much information out there regarding the pain in the butt these can be. Can you please see what you can find out about helping cleanse the kidney and body. I've gotten nothing but bad advice growing up, now I'm suffering. Thank you .

I had kidney stones for the first time almost a decade ago. Then I've given birth twice now without any epidural in the last 2 years. And I can say for SURE that I'd rather feel the pain of giving birth naturally than to EVER have a kidney stone again. At least the babies only lasted a couple of hours. That stone lasted nearly that whole day with nothing being done about it but to just cry out and wonder when it'll end
