In January 2021, I was in the hospital with serious heart palpitations as well as abdominal pain. My blood pressure was 170 over 100 and my heart was beating at a rate of 120 beats per minute, and my vision was dimming and blurring every time my heart pounded out of my chest. After 5 hours and various blood tests and a chest x ray, their advice? "Your electrolytes may be imbalanced. Drink Gatorade." After realizing this was completely bogus and was making the problem worse, I stumbled upon your videos and slowly worked my way towards a healthy keto and IF lifestyle. The palpitations, the digestive issues, and the blood pressure issues are all a distant memory now! Thank you Dr. Berg.

It saddens me (as a retired nurse) how the conventional health care is not working most of the time. I have noticed in my 42 nursing career how medications more often create more problems than “curing “ the problem. Unfortunately the medical industry is not willing to look outside the big pharma box. Thank you dr Berg for all your interesting and important information ❤

You presented this very well. I'm a cardiovascular critical care nurse. I mostly work with patients who have just undergone open heart surgery. We watch their electrolytes daily sometimes every 6 hours to ensure the ideal K and MG and Ca2+ to enhance the heart in the immediate post op healing process. You can imagine the inflammation we are dealing with after open heart where either valves were replaced or "new coronaries" were created. Fluids given IV are very specific. Plasmalyte is the go to because Its truly balanced. I will reference this video for those new to cardiac issues.

@@kellynewman862 WPW is such a unique dysrthmia. Some can go into that alternate current and have no symptoms. Others the rate is what seems to be the tricky part. Whether that's too slow or too fast. In the postoperative period we have you on a constant monitor so we can see if the rhythm changes and if it is associated with symptoms. To be fair in 10 years in open heart/ CVICU I have had 2 patients that I saw them go into that rhythm. One knew immediately and described what many do when in atrial fibrillation. Worh that particular case we did tackle the rhythm with flecanide as well as monitored electrolytes closely. The other individual was always in that rhythm and had no idea. Heart function was intact and they had no symptoms physically or hemodynamically meaning their cardiac output remained intact. I know with WPW many first choice antiarrythmics are off the table because we can really mess up the timing between the ventricles. Interesting question though! If you have this can I ask... how did you find out you had wolfparkinson white and what symptoms do you have that associate with it? Just a heart enthusiast and best education is from the patient!

Nobody has ever told us not to drink iced cold drinks on a very hot day after working hard outside. It is what happened to my husband one day 108°. It happened that day. We had an active duty Marine living in our guest house. He told us Marines are not allowed to drink even cold water on duty. A man that was working for us said when he was in high school, one of his team mates died on the field from drinking iced water while playing soccer on a hot day. Ice water killed him. No wonder Europe never serves cold water or drinks in any restaurant. Somehow they got that message and we did not. So I am putting out this message. Heads up! I would like to add my own experience with what I once believed was an arrhythmia. I believed I was developing a heart condition or had one due to my weight, life style and symptoms. Over the course of 2 years, I would experience issues where my heart, regardless of how fast it was going or what I was doing, would beat normally, then pause and "shiver" and beat hard, then go back to normal like nothing happened. This issue would happen so bad sometimes that it would be every other heartbeat or even EVERY heartbeat when it was super bad. I had no idea what was causing it but going to the Doctors office was out of the question. So I started testing. I tested my fitness, symptoms, age, diet and more. Eventually I figured out with the right medication and diet what it was. It was an ulcer. The Ulcer in my stomach is up against my vegus nerve. It's sensitive to the acidity in my stomach, stress from life and will act up if I eat the wrong foods. Sugar and tomato sauce really cause it to go wild. Removing sugar and any acidic foods causes my stomach acid to calm down and I don't have any problems. Overeating will cause problems as well. Laying on my right side also helps since your stomach is deeper on your right side, thus, it doesn't push the acid against it. So with the right diet, you can almost completely remove this issue. I want to point all of this out because I know there are some people out there who are scared of these videos while having the same issue I have. You're going to be alright, you just need to focus on your diet and health.

The stomach is deeper at the bottom on the right side yes, but it is deeper also at the top left side where the proton pumps are that form acid secretion. It is reported that sleeping on right side the upper muscle closing the esophagus is more likely to spend more time open, than if you sleep on left side. So if stomach acid causes GERD for you this advice at top of this thread may not be the best strategy. If you have ulser consider and research cranberry juice, bananas, chlorophyll laden foods, ginger and garlic for potential benefits to assist healing.

Dr. Berg's explanation of the side effects of the various western pharma medications was frightening. You can really see how people end up on 20 different pills. One for this problem or that problem and then one for each of the side effects. This information on electrolytes and minerals is very important to keeping off drugs and naturally healthy. Both my Mother and Grandmother had Arterial Fibrillation and were on blood thinners. I found out about the importance of magnesium and the heart. Started taking Mag and it was great for sleep, relaxation, headaches it's involved in almost every part cellular systems in the body. I love what you said about balance with the other electrolyte minerals. Basically, potassium is in many foods, so is sodium. Even Calcium is pretty easy to get in the diet and easy to overload on. Magnesium is in many food things like greens, nuts, grains, seeds but many of these foods should be sprouted because they have anti-nutrient chemicals in them that can block the magnesium from being bioavailable. Our soils in some areas are depleted of minerals like magnesium so foods grown in those soils may have less than optimal amounts of magnesium. Finally, magnesium is used up quickly by stress in your life. I take trace minerals in my water and find my energy and sleep to be pretty optimal. Great Video.

Good to see positive comments about Berg from a health professional! (I'm an ex nurse). I used to be very wary (skeptical) of his style and methods, but he seems to be very much improving with age...and consequently trustworthiness. I don't care if he's possibly made a fortune out of this anymore. Nearly all of what he's explaining these days seems to make complete sense and appears very well researched. And is also extremely helpful.

Years ago I developed a heart arrhythmia. I thought it was caused by chemicals I had been working with. But that turned out to be wrong. I went for tests but they found no reason for it. I tried electrolytes, that wasn't the problem either. Finally after about a year I discovered what was causing it. I am allergic to flax seeds. Whenever I ate flax seeds my heart would skip and do all kinds of weird things. So you never know....

Comprehensive explanation of electrolytes, however, arrhythmia can be caused by damaged heart valves - as it is in my case. Whether it's an impaired SA node or damaged heart valves, I think this should have been mentioned because some people can just assume that their arrhythmia is caused by electrolytes alone, just saying.

i had recurring SVT, correct name would be narrow complex tachycardia - rate of up to 220bpm. symptoms were light headedness, shortness of breath, extreme anxiety - i literally felt i was going to die. Cardiologist suggested Beta blockers and if that was not going to work then ablation therapy to burn out the 'theoretical' faulty SA nodes. i asked a few questions from the cardiologist regarding secondary conditions of taking beta blockers. his response sadly was that is the protocol. i told him thanks but no thanks. started intermittent fasting then after a few weeks started eating lots of dates. the magnesium in the dates cured my irregular intermittent fast heart rate. BP came down from 170/115 to textbook 120/80. i now take REMAG (magnesium supplement) daily. I am on an OMAD diet that leans towards keto.... i do have carbs but very little....in the form of rice. i eat greens like they are sweeties, plenty of protein and natural fat. I stopped eating out - banned all pizza, pasta and bread - have not touched them for 3 years - make my meals myself - grow micro greens in SOIL. i take high sublingual doses of vitamin D (20-30 thousand IU daily). recently started taking B complex - B1 - B3 and i regularly eat raw garlic and onions soaked in lemon juice. People see me and tell me they are convinced i am getting younger each time they see me. i now listen to my body - when it craves something i am able to identify what mineral vitamin or micronutrient my body is looking for and so i find the healthiest way to give it to my body. i eat fermented vegetables, stopped cooking my veg a long time ago- and take ACV 2 table spoons raw, 10 minutes before my meal. i drink Kefir, go out in nature and i touch the trees grass soil to get more good microbes in me. i am intending to do two sessions of HIT in the last hour of fasting before my daily meal. Every three months i will fast for 2 days - water only but i make tea from organic senna leaves to completely empty my digestive tract.... please note this can cause dehydration if you are not careful Dr Berg - you are one of the few people on this planet who not only has the knowledge but the ability to put that knowledge into a practical applicable form. Your delivery of information is comprehensive, to the point and worth its weight in Gold. I wish i could follow you around for a year and learn as much as i can from you. I am now moving away from the UK to a place where i can afford a small patch of land with good soil so i can grow my own food and raise some chickens and lambs naturally.

I was in the ER and got diagnosed with SVT last week. My heart rate was 162 while my bp was going low 80/40. I had history of heart palpitations but it was due to low hemoglobin. But I got it fixed by taking iron. Also i noticed my calcium was very low 8.1. I dont drink milk and rarely eat cheese or yogurt. Plus i was eating ketovore or carnivore. I guess im not getting enough calcium. Last year around Oct I got tinnitus and I noticed my calcium is low again 8.1 after getting 9.1 on my June blood work and the ECG found extra heart beat that didn't show up on my ECG when I have my low hemoglobin. I take magnesium glycinate and potassium bicarbonate. So I suspect it was the low calcium that caused my SVT esp when I don't take my vit d3 daily.

I was diagnosed with a-fib in 2016. My cardiologists put me on different medications that were making me soooo very sick and the episodes were still occurring every few days. These inept cardiologists never told me that my arrhythmia was caused by an imbalance of electrolytes.... they did not allow me salt at all.... and I thought that was the answer... no salt... but my episodes were one after another leaving me drained, scared and hopeless when the answer was so simple. About two years ago a cardiologist from UK told me to start getting magnesium; more recently I started to eat a little salt and my episodes are now 3 months or more apart. So, now I believe that my a-fib was caused by an imbalance of my electrolytes. The only thing that I can't figure out is what is the ratio is.

Research Cordyceps for afib, heart palpitations. I take it. It worked for me. My heart rate would stay around 150 just walking around. Resting 110+. I was scheduled to get defibbed. I backed out and took Cordyceps. Now, my resting heart rate bounces between 70-90. Normally in the 80s. Walking around, it is under 100. If I do anything like running or yard work, it will hit 130, but quickly drops back down. I also suffered heart palpitations for 10+ years. It completely stopped those. Cordyceps is high in adenosine. If you decide to get any, get the powdered form. It has a great flavor. Nutty hints with cocoa. I'll eat a scoop full raw or mix it with coffee. Research it :)

And that was my answer to prayer. I very seldom get a palpitation. And needless to say your electrolyte powder has worked miracles for me.. I am almost 66 years old and all I take is vitamins along with my electrolyte powder and I am surely blessed with great health...

Arrhythmias and tachycardia which I have both suffered from. For me arrhythmias are brought upon by my Synthroid if the dose is too high, dehydration, low blood sugar or high blood sugar, not enough sleep and like you said an imbalance of electrolytes. I’ve gotten tachycardia from being in extreme heat either hot or cold. I’ve also gotten tachycardia because of consuming caffeine, vegan frozen desserts or if I’ve tried to do intermittent fasting. And that’s one thing one of the emergency room doctor said that I had low magnesium levels and big dark leafy green salad eater eater. So recently I have decreased the amount of salad I consume and feel better. If you’re hypothyroid like myself you are definitely wasting magnesium as well. And Dr. Berg can you do a video on aldosterone and how it regulates sodium in the body?

I developed an arrhythmia after a dentist extracted an abscessed tooth and I suffered a post extraction 'bacterial shower' to my bloodstream, which triggered a massive fever to occur; I later found out that the dentist had failed to follow the normal protocol of the patient taking a precise antibiotic dose prior to extraction, to ensure any bacteria entering the bloodstream would not survive.

It could be that your body depleted its resources in fighting the infection. That happened to me and I suffered terrible, constant palpitations for over 6 months. Saw three doctors and each told me just not to worry about it because they were harmless. They were very unsettling and disruptive to me though! Believe it or not, homemade borscht cured me. Whatever mineral/electrolytes my body was missing was replenished by the borscht. Here is my very simple recipe if you want to give it a try. 1 qt good chicken bone broth (I use the Costco brand of organic bone broth), 4-5 beets diced or shredded, a couple handfuls of shredded cabbage (I just used leftovers from a salad kit), 1 tsp good quality sea salt (I use Dead Sea popcorn salt), 1-3 tsp raw apple cider vinegar (I personally like it strong), several good shakes of ground fennel, black pepper and a good curry powder. Bring it all to a boil and then reduce heat. Simmer until the beets are tender, 10-30 minutes or so depending on whether you’re using the pre-peeled and steamed beets or starting with them completely raw. For me I noticed my palpitations stopped after just a few days of eating it, but I decided to have a cup of borscht a day for a while, probably about 3 weeks. Now I only have it if I feel like I’m coming down with something.

I've picked up bits and pieces of what you present here from some of your other videos - in particular, the need to balance magnesium, potassium, and calcium. And I understand better now how sugars and sodium intake effect these electrolytes. As a result, despite having congestive part disease, most of the time my blood pressure is in a healthy range, I rarely have episodes of tachycardia, heart rhythm is usually normal, and my stamina has been improving little by the little. I take no meds except Furosemide, which the doctor is now allowing me to try cutting back on. Given that I am now almost 76, and had been living with untreated FQAD effects for more than 18 years, this is pretty good. Thank you.
@abigail2795
@abigail2795 2 жыл бұрын
Heather what did you do to improve your situation thanks
@HeatherQuinn
@HeatherQuinn 2 жыл бұрын
@@abigail2795 most important, no added sugars in my foods. To balance the four main electrolytes, it's a little bit complicated. I have to eat high protein because I am living with FQAD, which damages the body's ability to make collagen and negatively affects mitochondrial function. I tolerate dairy well, so I get a lot of protein from dairy. So calcium intake is always adequate. But because I was not paying attention to magnesium and potassium for a long time, I was getting too much calcium relative to magnesium and potassium. I also don't salt my food when I cook it, and I eat almost no processed foods, so my sodium is mostly too low. One of the standard nutritional supplements used to treat FQAD symptoms is some form of magnesium. I began using magnesium glycinate lysinate a few years ago, after I discovered that I was living with FQAD. (FQAD stands for Fluoroquinolone Associated Disabilities, whuch are delayed adverse effects that are disabling, the result of the toxicity of certain antibiotics, those in the fluoroquinolone class, like Cipro, Levaquin, and Avelox.) So I had too much calcium, not enough sodium - but a good intake of magnesium with the help of supplementation. What was missing? Balance, and potassium was way too low. I added more vegetables to my diet, but I live in the mountains with no car, so it's hard for me to get leafy greens to use as the best food source of potassium. So I also keep a potassium citrate supplement on hand. With each meal, I now pay attention to how much calcium I'm getting from dairy, the quantity of leafy greens I'm going to eat, and whether there's any source of sodium in my food. For treating FQAD effects, I take the magnesium supplement twice a day. If sodium is too low, I will add a little salt to the food. That takes care of calcium, magnesium, and sodium. Then I pay attention to sugars and stress, both of which lower potassium. I then guess, based on leafy greens available, sugars, and stress, whether I need to take additional potassium with that meal. If I think I do, I take a small amount of potassium citrate with the meal. By using this technique at every mealtime, I'm able to keep electrolytes roughly in balance. Improvement in my health tells me this is working.

@@HeatherQuinn What does your FQAD have to do with protein ? Also, have you looked into the effects of too much dairy? organic Eggs are a good source of easily digestible protein. Also, you can grow your own leafy greens anywhere. Its cheaper and healthier. I grow my own and do not own any land. great getting off the drugs. Follow Dr. Bergs videos on Keto /IF

I am 76, had an HA at 62. Immediately put on Lipitor hospital. It triggered a fever, higher and longer each day on it, after 4 days Doc took me off Lipitor and fever began to stop. Left hospital not on a statin as a result. Later asked doc to put me on statin. He used old statin. After 6 months Doc doubled dose and a bit after that I went into Afib. Stayed on Statin for four years. After another 6 years Doc put me on Rapatha. In two weeks on Rapatha went into Afib. In two weeks it dropped LDL from 129 to 59. I have an identical twin brother. Last year his doc put him on Rapatha because he did not want to take a statin. Within two months he went into Afib. Since my last Afib I started with sport electrolyte every day and when I train. I raced bicycles for 35 years and still do 5,000 miles a years at a much slower pace these days. I believe it has kept me out of Afib. I have taken magnesium for years and continue. I believe last Afib was do electrolyte imbalance caused by to a trip to area with very soft water.

QT prolongation is one of the major reasons for arrhythmias, syncope and even sudden cardiac arrest. Many medications are linked to these which most people not even doctor's aware of. For example, commonly prescribed antibiotic azithromycin causes QT prolongation. Norepinephrine drugs used in critical care for raising blood pressure is another one which is one of the major reasons for cardiac arrest.

You are truly the type of physician I grew up on. Having a background in healthcare really makes me appreciate your knowledge! As I watched your video it reminded me of how patients physicians were when I was growing up. They truly seek the root cause. Too often, physicians treat the current problem and not the main problem. As a result, many patients are out in so many medications that leads to a spiral down hill for most patients over a periods of time. Ultimately, over medicating patients I feel is the cause of overall sickness in addition to our own bad health habits. Thank you for this video. I will forever keep mind set in mind as I educate my patients.

Thank you Dr. Berg, Truly timely. I have atrial-fib. Just had a cardioversion -did not work. My A-fib is controlled so that means it's constant. Got prescribed with blood thinners but instead use high quality Nattokinase. Just recently I decided to take Magtein (magnesium l-theonate) 2 capsules (Now Foods) and 3 caps of potassium citrate BEFORE bed. What a difference. Yes, sleep is sound but I feel much more relaxed during the day. I do discuss my "stuff" with my GP and of course everyone should do the same. I realize that I do have to do more research and get these electrolytes in balance so I am not suggesting anyone do the same as I but just adding these 2 mineral supplements before bed has made a profound difference. Note: The form of magnesium I mention here is the only form I can take without upsetting my stomach and the need to be constantly close to a toilet. Thanks Doc Berg ... I'll now watch the video you suggest on how to eat properly for the heart Thanks from Canada🇨🇦❤

I'm 60ish and have been in generally good health, although I've had intermittent and increasing arrhythmias, both in frequency and severity, for maybe two decades. I was recently under the care of a cardiologist and underwent a battery of tests, including 30-day event monitoring that uncovered an episode or two of "PVC", a type of arrhythmia. They found no other issues with my heart. In fact, my cardio health registers in the top 25% of men my age (Note: I maintain a low carb diet and exercise regularly). So, since I have no other health issues they recommended a magnesium supplement. Since adding supplemental magnesium several months ago, I've had no detectable arrhythmias! 😊
