In part 3, of my Fly Fishing Wyoming series, I'm Fly Fishing the most INCREDIBLE Stream in Wyoming. I've transitioned to another small stream to chase wild rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout. I decided to stay 3 days and each day will have its own video. This was the coolest stream I have ever fished, no question! The fishing was awesome, the scenery was breath taking and the wild trout were perfect! I was warned about the black bear activity along the stream and indeed, it was a very active spot for bears. I saw one coming down the trail the first day, but he went the other way faster than I could turn my gopro on. I was also warned to watch for rattlesnakes as they were also present. Fortunately, I never saw any snakes and only lots of bear scat. You can check out the other parts to this series below:
Part 1- Fly Fishing the Bighorn Mountains: • Fly Fishing Wyoming -T...
Part 2 - Fly Fishing a Small Stream in Wyoming for wild rainbow, brown and brook trout: • Fly Fishing a Small St...
Part 3 day 2 - Exploring a Wild and Remote stream in Wyoming: • OFF the GRID - Fly Fis...

Damn it Drew, I'm sick to my stomach from watching you have all this fun while I'm stuck behind this pile of paperwork on my desk. "Hey guys! I just caught like 600 fish in Wyoming, and now i'm gonna enjoy an ice cold beer and smell this fresh pine air around a peaceful campfire!" Actually, i'm happy for you brother and extremely jealous. Have a safe rest of the trip and catch one for me!

May sound corny as heck but that crystal water , flowing over stone, the mountains just seems enchanting. Beautiful fish too, pretty sure I’ll never get to experience the west and it’s streams. I used to wade fish a lot in the Ozarks ,, N.C. and even a lot in Ms. ( which doesn’t have boulders just gravel , sand and a lot of Bush and bramble) where I’ve spent most my life. But I’ve never seen anything quite like Wyoming . Thanks for sharing the great view and fishing. I know after a long day of rock hopping even Parina dog chow would taste great. Ha ha!

Yea, all about the experience and noting beats getting off the grid to fish. It's one of my patterns. The hopper version is in my tying videos. The stone version is essentially the same but instead of reverse tying in the foam, just tie it on and leave some hanging off the hook. I add 2 sets of legs but that's it. Sorry, I don't sell flies. Just share what I use. Stay busy trying to keep my boxes filled.

Man, that's some epic water! I do a lot of new mexico and colorado out of a truck topper in similar fashion. I do "dog food' tacos, "dog food'" raman, "dog food' alfredo, The chicken and tuna packs make a good substitute as well. A variety of Knorr side kicks, dehydrated hash browns, mashed potatoes, raman soups make for some interesting combos. If Im in on some brookies or browns ill bring one or two pan size back for the pan for dinner as well, of course the native trout always get the pass!

I really need a trip like that soon. Thanks for sharing. Looked awesome. Have you thought about a Simms type collapsible walking stick to hit the ground in front of you where the snake concern might be? Or is that just too much more to keep up with?
@LooknFishy
@LooknFishy 3 жыл бұрын
You are on point with the collapsible walking stick. Never considered one until I was using my net to hit the ground in front of me. Definitely something I'm going to look into for these kind of trips. The stick worked but I'd have to go back to where ever I walked into the stream to get it.

Drew LooknFishy I saw TFO is now selling one that collapses into a holster like the Simms wading staff for about half the cost. I almost bought a Simms in March. Talked myself out of it, but doing backwoods trips like you’re sharing encourages me to get one for those trips. Hadn’t thought much about the snake side of it until you talked through your journey. It’s a long way to medical help if I get tagged. At the Lower Mountain Fork, I’ve seen mostly small copper heads. I did get ran out of Evening Hole one night when a giant water moccasin decided to surface at the top of the water right at the top of the hole I was casting to. I figured he was giving me fair warning. He won that round.
@LooknFishy

@@WOScholar great info, will check it out! You're absolutley correct getting tagged that far away from help could easily turn a serious situation in to an emergency! Had my share of run ins with territorial cottonmouths, I let them have their space for sure!

Looked like a few places you had split shot on or weight. Is that to get fly real deep? Didn't look like the hopper was getting top hits, so were you fishing it wet? Great looking river and been trying to find remote water with my son, but need to get in better shape for next year. Thanks for the excellent videos.
@LooknFishy
@LooknFishy 3 жыл бұрын
Thx Jon, staying in shape is super important to me, not a joke! No, just dry or dry-dropper. About 90% took the stonefly dry, the first bow and 2 or 3 others took the dropper. Eventually, I cut it off as fish were more willing to come to the surface. The takes were very subtle and not splashy...plus the gopro doesn't provide a ton of detail at distance. I do a lot more nymphing in the next 2 parts.

Yea I have considered a tent but those are pretty much exactly like what I have and trying to find an option for gear storage and sleeping. Thinking a topper is in my future...but I have also been researching the go fast campers bc they seem to offer a mix of tent and quick set-up/break down, which is what I don't like about traditional tents. That is a nice stream, I like blue line fishing myself. My old 8' Fenwick 5 wt would be perfect. I see you also had a large cal. handgun. That fine makes good sense to. Wet wading. As for spam, well lend-lease spam fed the Red Army during world war two. I eat it from time to time. it's a little too salty for me in my old age. a ham steak will keep in a cooler just fine for three or four days. I would spend a good week on that water myself. Topo map and a compass. There is lots of such water in our country.

No, I've tried using them but find them uncomfortable to hike in. These are orvis, ultra light wading boots with vibram soles. I've been happy with the traction in and out of the water and they've lasted longet than any wet wading boot /show I've ever owned.
