I'm sad April got this treatment.... T_T I loved her in the original comics (Mirage), and in the 2000's series. I loved her in IDW too, at least initially. But sadly, this happened in the last show the TMNT got, in the ROTMNT(2018) cartoon series as well. Idk why hollywood hates readheads.... In that show she was turned into Africanamerican, and it seems like they stuck with the idea. Also, in that show they cast an African American voice actor as Raph, so they had to make him the leader too, instead of Leo... ;P

I find that proposition a double-edged sword. I loved April in the original Mirage comics, and in the 2000's TMNT series. She was pretty, and smart, but at the same time, she was feminine. Originally, she was a big "sister" figure to the turtles. The mob who keeps bitching about her being sexualized, should know, she wasn't originally. I will admit that April has been getting younger and younger in design over time. The animated series from the 2000s I think on stuff like nickelodeon and cartoon network definitely had her as more of a teenager, being more at a relatable age to the turtles. I personally didn't have any issues with it, it gives a bit of a human bridge into the turtle's lives and experiences. Side note, Splinter in that show was awesome

Just took my nephew to see the movie today. Although I don't like how they changed April O'Neil compared to the 90's shows, April was black in the 80's comics. She was a light-skinned black woman with curly black hair but then was changed to a red headed white woman. Overall the movie was pretty good and had a good message behind it. You get a one minute and fifty four second trailer, and you take a race swapped character who was in it for only four seconds and instantly think this movie is gonna be dog water. Listen, I understand where you’re coming from. I hate movies saturated in woke, too. It’s really annoying, especially when you just want to watch a good movie. But one race swapped character isn’t gonna make me stomp my feet in protest at a movie with beautiful visuals, teenage voice actors who actually sound good (Donnie’s gonna take some getting used to), and freaking Jackie Chan as Master Splinter. Don’t get me wrong, I have my fair share of skepticisms. I was a bit iffy when I found out Seth Rogen was gonna be involved with this movie. But guess what? He was involved in Invincible. He produced and wrote a few episodes. And you know what? That show was amazing. So amazing it got a Drinker Recommends, despite the fact they race swapped and ruined the character of Amber. If April’s personality in TMNTMM ends up like Velma or Amber you have the right to object against that, but it’s too early to start calling accusations. We’re gonna get more trailers soon with more scenes of April, and then we can see if she’s gonna be the April we know and love who has just been altered visually, or if they assassinate the character. If you wanna stay cynical I won’t judge you, but don’t brand anyone as a “woke idiot” for being excited for this film. And remember, Nick Fury was white in the comics and they decided to race swap him in Iron Man. Today Samuel L. Jackson is considered to be the definitive Nick Fury.

Something like the Sin City adaption (which I thought was really really good). The last time I watched the OG turtles was way back when it was new, but if I remember correctly, April was a rather professional reporter in the sense she wanted to get things done, find the truth, would do the work others didn't want to do (though I could be remembering all wrong). Her "good looks" were kind of a result of her ability to put in hard work and take care of herself. But this character? Looks like an absolute slob which makes me think they probably do some sloppy work/reporting and wouldn't be able to keep pace with the turtles, which means they kind of killed her character. That, and, you know, news company do tend to put attractive people in front of the camera because it makes money, so it makes sense from a world building perspective to have your reporter "hot". but what do I know

The TV show has been rebooted 3 times since the late 80s, early 90s original show. And there have been 3 rebooted films. The target audience isn't 30-45 year olds (like myself) but to get a new generation into it. But if my gen wants to watch it then that's a bonus. But I'm more worried about the people who made it. Rogen's reputation when it comes to animation is bleak. Didn't a ton of animators have to bring him to court because he didn't pay them for Sausage Party.

@@Attmay i suppose it depends on the definition of fan. I use to love Star Wars until the new stuff came out in the last several years. I have only seen a few and the only thing that go me excited was the John Williams score and the crawl screen in the beginning. Every thing else seemed fake. Most of the sets seemed fake. Acting was terrible. So I gave up. Now Andor. I absolutely love Andor. It seems real again. You could take the Star Wars element out of it and it is a stand alone great movie about peoples struggles. I've never been a fan of TMNT. But when you deliberately change canon characters to be edgy. To people like me (whom I would consider a fan to SW) it doesn't make it a TMNT movie just because of them name. Try doing that with a sports character. Make a movie about Nolan Ryan or someone and have someone completely different stand in. Nolan Ryan fans aren't going to be moved to watch the movie.
