I'm so old I learned to drive during the era of land yachts and when rollover crashes almost always resulted in serious injuries and/or fatalities. It is amazing to me to see high speed multi-flip crashes where the passengers are able to walk or limp away under their own power.

I hear ya... Yes cars are so much more survivable now after a century of safety improvements. Of course that means higher speed limits, and more rollovers.
@GrainneDhu
@GrainneDhu Жыл бұрын
@@bigtexuntex7825 Speed limits are the same--when I got my first driver's license, speed limit on the interstates was 65 mph, just like today. Then there was that long period after the first oil crisis when the speed limit was dropped to 55 mph and all of us who'd learned under the old speed limit felt like we were just crawling along. That 55 mph lasted so long that there's a sizeable chunk of drivers who never experienced driving legally over 55 mph and never developed the driving habits for it. Driving the German autobahn was another experience entirely--one that was worth the airfare all by itself (I didn't go there just to do that, but it sure was fun).

Buddy stood up on the seat of his Harley at 70mph and wind grabbed him like a parachute, could cover all his scrapes with one hand. Week later on city square, cop directly behind that said he was moving 3-4mph, the sand on a turn where car tires never drive caused the front tire to slip. He didn't pull his leg fast enough, ankle, knee, hip, and two places on his shin broke clean through. Seems stupidity is rewarded while an accident isn't.

@@mikekickyoazz5408 It doesnt keep you alive. You can get decapitated on any drug & adrenaline , as well as shock. However, it definitely keeps you from feeling any pain afterward. At least until, what EMS refer to, as the “Golden Hour” wears off. The “Golden Hour” immediately kicks in after a wreck, or traumatic situation in which the human body produces an extreme amount of adrenaline for almost an hour exact. This allowsthem to perform super human tasks as well as helping them to survive & feel no pain. While the hour long adrenaline rush saves lives…It’s difficult for EMS to get an accurate injury assessment of any internal injuries present. The victim often feels NO pain…even if they’re missing a limb. They refuse to get transported to the hospital because they’re “fine” It can literally be a life or death battle convincing them otherwise. Time is critical. After that hour is up, they crash and burn. Often if they aren’t near an operating table when that happens…the next table waiting for them is at the morgue.

NM has so many roads in empty areas. Radio loss is so common. Our State Troopers used SatRadio in the past. The antenna looked like a white Safety Helmet on the trunk. When Katrina hit, NM sent Troopers to assist. Other Officers' from different states also helped. It was remarked that they wished they could run the plates and IDs of people stopped (their equipment is tuned to their own precincts). NMSP demonstrated that they could get all the info in a normal traffic stop outside of NM.

One is a GPS System that attaches itself to the rear and the Officer has a tracking system to do so. Springfield Missouri (Greene County Sheriff has them. The cops picked a very dangerous location for the spike strip. Taking cover behind parked vehicles is not protection from a car traveling at 100 mph, with a driver who may unintentionally or intentionally crash into the cover cars. Guardrails and bridges often provide excellent cover as well as a narrower roadway. Most cop shops do little to no training for the safe and proper location selection for deployment of tire deflation devices.

Imagine rolling over several times, paralized from the neck down and being told at gunpoint or dog to get your hands up. Not saying that's what happened here, just a thought that came to me.

Yeah. The over precaution they're trained with is getting a bit ridiculous. I've seen countless videos of these robotic fools barking orders (never clear or concise orders) at an obvious dead body. So scared s#itless that they won't budge. If they are that terrified of doing the job, maybe they just aren't suitable for the job. The job has inherent risks. Every job does. And, that risk is what you have to accept. If you want that position. You can minimize the risk. That's fine. But, when it prevents you from doing the job... (effectively), it's a problem.

Once you decide to run and endanger everyone you should be able to handle what happens from it even if you have one arm still attached and pulling yourself with it.

@@shane8915 Apparently there are two different mindsets on the subject in these comments and I'm torn between them. On one hand, a person seriously injured is not going to respond easily to make your job easier as a police officer. On the other hand if you are going to in danger yourself and others then you should be prepared to face the ultimate consequence. As I said, I don't know where the line should be drawn. They had a ballistic shield and only used it after forcing two potentially injured people to walk to them. One of which may have been an innocent passenger.
