You can easily fit 5 in the M5, it won't be particularly comfortable but it's perfectly doable. The M5 works just fine as a family car, the GTR is really a two seater sports car with two part time seats for when you really need to carry more people. The GTR is more in line with the M4 but for that comparison the M4 doesn't have enough power and the GTR is far too expensive.

I had a GT-r for a few years..... The only car I could load up with luggage, stick the kids in the back, blast down the M4 to Heathrow with a boot full of luggage, sod off on me hols for a couple of weeks knowing that it will start when I get back...... The M5 is a poor comparison, a 911 Turbo is much better but you try and do the above in one of those...........

I love the /Drive series over Top gear for a few reason. One of them is that when they do car comparisons they are not looking for a winner or a loser they share what is great about each car and let you decided which is better for your style of driving. Also, I rarely find any of these guys biased at all unlike Top Gear. Keep up the good work /Drive TV you guys are passionate about what you do and it shows.

Very good video. I couldn't choose! The BMW M5 is more comfortable and in the real world probably the best one (daily use considerd etc) but it's not as special as the GTR (every street has a 5series in it). I'm not sure how the GTR would hold up in everyday use, but it's a lot more special. You never see them in traffic here.

It has 4 seats, a decent boot and supercar performance with AWD and will also a much bigger following. The GTR is destined to be a future collector item

The new Nissan gtr is one of thise understated cars, which is trying to compete with top rivals which have already established status among the super car world. This personally makes the Nissan (Datsun) more appealing in many different aspects which is may not be that obvious. I first saw a Nissan gtr back when I was travelling up and down the m3 to my place of work, the stance of the car is just so intimidating to all other road user, and from that point on I was truly convinced that this was a dark horse of the motoring world, you only have to read the technical stats of this car and you will have the Italians And Germans shaking in there boots. The thing that really struck me is how a company such as Nissan can sell such a wide range of cars but still manage to develop a car which will give you the performances of super car with the reliability and use ability to rival BMWs m range and Audi's quattro and RS ranges

Everyone has a particular use for a car he wants. Want funas a youth, take a GT-R. Want comfort, speed and seem more responsible take an M5. For the difference in performance(GT-R) and difference in comfort+ status(M5), added to the fact that they have the same price, I'd rather say the M5 is the better car of these two.

It's actually simple choice if you have children then pick the M5 and if you are a bachelor pick the GTR . The point is that these cars will never be in the same league ( GTR is a supercar or ultimate sport coupe while the M5 is a supersaloon ) think.like this GTR main rivals are Audi R8 and Porsche 911 Turbo while BMW M5 rivals are E63 AMG,Audi RS6,Porsche Panamera turbo and Jaguar XFR

One is a quietly styled executive super sedan straight from the factory. The other is a racing derived sports coupe with a vast tuning industry built behind it. I'll gladly take both of them.

I hate to say it, but the V2 was actually much faster than a cruise missile. The whole point of a cruise missile, is that it cruises, really close to the surface, so it cannot be detected by radar. The average speed of the Tomahawk cruise missile is about 500 mph. Whereas the V2 was a ballistic missile, it went up in a suborbital trajectory, got up to several times the speed of sound, and went back down again. So it you really wanted a good comparison, the M5 could be a cruise missile, and the GTR could be a SAM, or an air to air missile, or something similar.

Seriously why are these the two most googled cars. BMW, at least in the UK, is the top selling manufacturer, they sell more 3 series than ford mondeos over here. They have no exclusivity anymore, anyone on 30k a year has one. As for the the GTR, its a Nissan with a plastic interior and a very good launch control & 4WD system but if you're over the age of 30, you're going to look like an idiot driving one.

According to SMMT, Ford was the top selling manufacture in the UK in 2014. BMW was number five, behind Vauxhall, VW, and Audi. By registration, the Ford Fiesta is the #1 selling car in the UK for 2014. The 3 series is #10. Combine the Focus and the Fiesta and the two outsell the 3 series 6 to 1. Before you drag up an old Jeremy Clarkson quote, you might want to check and see if it's still, you know, relevant. Better yet, come up with your own opinions...

Andy Metcalf Wrong. Ford outsells BMW overall on the grounds that they don't produce a Ford Fiesta competitor which sells big numbers in the sector. Look at the equivalent models though and in 2014; 3 series' sold: 29,000. vs Ford Mondeo: 12,000. The A3 sold 6,000 more than that as did the Mercedes C-Class. In fact if you add up Audi and BMW sales in the UK they outsell the significantly cheaper Fords which is astounding. Compare that to the top 10 cars sold in the US and its all pick ups and GM garbage.

The M5 is faster (not off the line obviously), more comfortable and it is 2 cars in one. It can be used daily, for shopping, fitting 4 people comfortably (even at high speeds), taking kids to school, going on long journeys. It can also be a MONSTER with the touch of a button. It's quick, fun, comfortable, sensible, handles well, performs well and that's why it's the car I would pick.

the M5 is faster yes, from 0-300 the M5 is a few seconds faster than the GTR, the GTR have the advantage of 4 wheel drive of the line, but if u race both cars from 100kmh to lets say 250, the M5 is faster than the GTR, without lanch control from 0 the bmw is also faster off the line, the GTR launch control is very good, without it tho, it isnt close to the time 0-100 with lanch control

Yes and I agree! My brother has a 2004 BMW 530i Manual Transmission that is used for $15,000 but it came in good condition, already installed Angel Eyes bulb, sports package and it was owned by a doctor so it is kept very well!

Alex Douglas yeh ill take the car that is a better all rounder which you can use in a multitude of ways plus tell me how many speeding tickets you are willing to take on every other road apart from the nurnberg and autobahn. My guess is you probably dont even live in Germany and therefore have no speed limitless roads so therefore the gtr is useless unless you want to do track days which lets face it, only like 5% of the owners of even M and AMG cars do.

I always regard that comment nissan made as rubbish, they may be hand built engines but so are ferrari engines, amg engines and m engines for example and they all produce the factory power figures. A turbo engine like the gtr would rely on boost pressure to inject the amount of fuel to provide the power which is factory set and the same on all models so the power figures would all be the same. I think the gtr press release cars were more powerful than claimed and this resulted in this comment becoming fact and every owner wanted theirs to be producing more than 500hp not 476. A gtr is also much more expensive to service and maintain than any M5.
